  • Zucchini noodles (also known as zoodles or zucchini pasta) are a delicious, gluten-free, healthy alternative to pasta. Today I’m comparing the best ways to make zucchini noodles - with 5 different zucchini noodle makers. These include the Paderno Spiralizer, KitchenAid Spiralizer, julienne peeler, mandoline, and hand-held spiralizer or spiral slicer (most commonly known as the Vegetti Spiralizer). In my full blog post (linked below) I'll also give you 5 ways to cook zucchini noodles and share some extra tips and advice. So make sure to check that out!

    Since I have a kitchen full of zoodles (the result of making this video!) - I'll be updating a few of the zucchini noodle recipes on my website with new photos. I still can't decide which is my favorite though? ;) Tell me - what's your favorite recipe with zucchini noodles? Are there any recipes you want to see me make? - Lisa xo

      I make a garlic sauce with avocado and olive oil, I like thicker sauces with veggie noodles because I find the veggies tend to thin sauce out.

      Ooh, that sounds fab! I'm always a fan of garlic. And totally agree that zoodles can get a bit watery, so a thicker sauce is a smart idea.

    Wow. Six years after your video I'm finally looking into how to make zoodles. I'm cutting down on carbs and am looking for something good to go with my bolognese sauce which, surprisingly, is the number one dish served up in Australian households nowadays. It's definitely my easiest go-to meal so it's time to cut down the carbs. I've recently bought an electric peeler and it has a julienne attachment so that will be my first try. I also have a newly acquired food processor but I'm not sure if it will spiralise or just create more julienne style pieces. This was such a good introduction so I've got plenty to experiment with. Thanks for your efforts.

    Today, I harvested some zucchini In my backyard. I tried your recipe. I made my zucchini noodles using the Borner julienning mandolin. I worked slowly and carefully. I popped the last little bit of zucchini in my mouth. I had some leftover rice and fresh shiitake mushrooms. I sautéed the sliced mushrooms with minced garlic, added the rice, sesame oil and a bit of soy sauce and heated it through. From here on, I followed your recipe, except I left out the wine since do don't keep any in the house. (As cancer survivors, we don't drink alcohol.) I did have a bit of sweet chili sauce, so I mixed it with the lemon juice. I served the zucchini noodles and shrimp over the rice with mushrooms. It was delicious. Tomorrow, I plan to make your baked zucchini halves stuffed with ground beef Mexican style with all the toppings. And the day after that, I will try making your zucchini lasagna. I am so glad that I came across your recipes, because my zucchini patch is doing extremely well this year.

    I did get my Sboly 7 blades sterilizer for zucchini and just to is cheaper with Walmart I purchase mines for $17.49 it was on sale. The original price was $ 36 or $37, and shipping free when you spend $35 which I only spent $17.49 because my sister order something from Walmart too so shipping was free for us, and I do appreciate the machine because I enjoy zucchini spaghetti it’s all about the sauce! And it’s a wonderful flavor. It takes on whatever flavor it did you add to the zucchini in this little machine it’s a great delight. Thank you for your video.😍👩🏾‍🦲🥰

    New to your channel... Not gluten free but trying to eat healthier... I ordered the Paderno spiralizer and just tried zoodles for the 1st time after watching this... I just heated up marinara sauce and put it on them and OMG, I am blown away. I was not expecting them to taste this good. In fact I think I like them better than pasta. I'm going to have to give your other zoodle recipes a try. Thanks for the tutorial. The spiralizer was really easy to use. I was only hesitant because I don't have room for lots of gadgets, but this is worth it. I cleared out some drawer space for it. :)

    hey, i'm thinking about buying the kitchenaid spiralizer. do you think it's possible to spiralize a beetroot with it or is the diameter of the beetroot too big?

    • @Downshiftology
      @Downshiftology  6 років тому +1

      It's absolutely possible! Watch me do it on this video: ua-cam.com/video/7gorWlpQVks/v-deo.html You do have to be careful with the KitchenAid spiralizer on diameter, but beetroot works (as it's about the same size as sweet potato). You just wouldn't be able to do cabbage, cantaloup or larger items, like you can with the Paderno Spiralizer.

    Would love to see other veggies! Can you freeze zoodles?

    • @Downshiftology
      @Downshiftology  3 роки тому

      Freezing zoodles isn't ideal as it retains a lot of moisture.

    I would like to make zucchini noodles. What size blade makes the best noodles? 2 mm, 3 mm or 5 mm? Thank you 😊

    I have been wondering just how hard the Paderno Spiralizer is on the hands and if someone with arthritis would have a hard time with one. I was thinking of one of the electric Spiralizers. Have you tried one of those yet?

    • @Downshiftology
      @Downshiftology  6 років тому

      I think the Paderno Spiralizer is pretty easy, but that's of course a very individual thing. I have tried the electric spiralizers and I'm usually not a fan given that they're fixed in length (and/or width).

    do you first salt to "drain" out the noodles of water before you begin cooking them? I find it too watery the sauces if you don't

    • @Downshiftology
      @Downshiftology  6 років тому

      I don't. But I also don't really cook my noodles - most of the time I eat them raw or simply warm them. Make sure to read my blog post (linked in the video description) for my tips. :)

    I would love to see the video about what other vegetables can be made into noodles. Thank you for this I have the hand held but I didn't really understand how to use it or what the top piece was even used for!

    I would love to know how you spiralize sweet potatoes (if you do)... I'm not sure if it's just me, but I find sweet potatoes really difficult to cut and I haven't even bothered with spiralizing because I'm sure I'll cut my hand up! LOL

    • @Downshiftology
      @Downshiftology  7 років тому

      Yes, I do! I actually think it's easier to spiralize sweet potatoes than cut them (and I use my Paderno Spiralizer). So you should definitely give it a go! :) Here's a recipe I have for curly sweet potato fries as well: downshiftology.com/recipes/curly-sweet-potato-fries/

    A year ago, I decided to make zoodles with peanut sauce. The zoodles looked perfect and the sauce was delicious. I tossed the 2, set the table and took the bowl over to serve and found a watery mess. The zoodles had oozed out all the moisture. Never made them again. How do I avoid this.

    • @Downshiftology
      @Downshiftology  5 років тому

      Zucchini will become watery once cooked, which is why I prefer them raw most of the time. Make sure to read the full blog post (linked in the video description) for more tips. :)

      Hi there! Unfortunately it's not the best idea to freeze zoodles because of how much moisture they retain so when defrosted they will get extremely soggy.

    In the UK we say courgette instead of zucchini... and courgetti instead of zoodles

    • @prva9347
      @prva9347 3 роки тому

      "Zucchini" comes from the Italian word "zucchino", a small squash or undeveloped marrow. "Courgette" is French. "Zucchini" is usually used in countries where American (i.e. USA) English or Australian predominates, "courgette" where French or British English or other English is used, such as the English-speakers in New Zealand and South Africa, and places where French has a history in the language such as Europe where the Romance languages predominate. Wherever you are, though, "courgetti" and "zoodles" are wonderful portmanteaus and great additions to both diet and language.
