  • In this video I will get this Nissan Frontier replacement door painted with a full explanation of the process where I go over a lot of important information for anyone that wants to try their hand in auto paint. Also going to straighten out the front metal bumper and I'll finally start on the body filler. Just a few steps closer to getting this truck done.

    • @fix206
      @fix206  3 роки тому

      It is probably called different things in different parts of the world. It's basically a primer sealer that is not a high build like a regular primer. And it's not meant to be sanded either, although I'm sure if you absolutely had to, you probably could still sand some nibs and what not out of it. I used to not use sealer for the longest time, but after I started using it, I am not going back to my old ways :-) Cheers!

    @Fix206 any videos in the pipe where potentially a trunk of a car is repaired? Or pulling out the B pillar when being hit from the side? When I see these type of cars at auction I often wonder how difficult this is and you continue to amaze me with your skillz ;)

      Currently don't have anything in the pipe with side or rear damage. Do have a video that will be coming out later on with another front end damage where I had to pull one of the frame rails and a strut tower that's attached to upwards. Most of the cars aren't too hard to fix, but some of the other ones are best left alone, just let them go to the scrap yard instead. If you want to learn, always start with easy light damaged vehicles, and as your skills grow you'll be able to move onto harder hit cars

      It is much easier to lay the clear out like glass on a horizontal surface because clear flows out. You get much more orange peel accumulation on a vertical surfaces. The gun that I'm using is an Iwata LPH-400. I've had this gun for many years and gotten some good results with it, especially when laying down some clear. It struggles a bit with metallics that's why if I'm painting something with a high metallic contact I switch to Devilbiss Pro Light for base coat application, that gun has easier time with metallics and other difficult colors.

    hello! i don't understand you paint outside no wind no dirt?why?

    • @fix206
      @fix206  3 роки тому +2

      When I paint outside I normally try to pick a day when it's not windy, painting earlier in the day is better because bugs normally come out in the evening and also morning dew will collect on the grass overnight and a lot of the dust and dirt sticks to it, a lot of the times I will also wet the area around where I will be painting, that also helps with keeping the dirt down. If you know what you're doing you can get some really nice results while painting outside, even while painting in a paint booth sometimes you still get dirt in your finish.

  • @BrucePierson
    @BrucePierson 3 роки тому

    Nice tutorial. I don't think I could add anything to it, you covered it nicely. However, I would like to suggest a tip. I watch Junkyard Dave and what he does with the paint tin before he pours the paint is to cover the groove in the paint tin with masking tape, to prevent paint getting into the groove, which you then have to clean out in order to reseal the tin. I thought that was a good idea and something I hadn't thought of. I'm looking forward to seeing more of this truck repair and I wish you had more spare time to post videos more often. But no doubt your job comes first, which brings in the money, so you can only do what you can do in your spare time. Hopefully you'll get your son's truck finished soon and you can get back to your '48 Chevy. All the best from Queensland Australia.

    • @fix206
      @fix206  3 роки тому

      Good day Bruce, funny thing you mentioned the masking tape trick on the edge of the can. I literally had that same conversation with someone just about a few days ago and have not had a chance to try it out just yet. The footage from this video was shot about a month ago and the truck has been finished and painted for about a week and a half now. Everything turned out great and my son couldn't be happier. I try to push myself to do more as far as the video content goes, but every time I get ready to get behind a computer and start editing something else comes up and I got to run and take care of it. It normally takes me two full days just to put together a 15-20 minute long video and that's precious time that I don't have much of. But I've been gathering up more parts for the 48 truck, I am anxious to get back on that project once the weather clears up, we had a good streak of weather and now it's back to more rain with some sun breaks in between. I even got a new tool that will hopefully help me achieve some better results with certain things on the 48. I'll be doing a review on it after I push out a couple of more videos on the Nissan.

      @@fix206 I know exactly what you mean when you are working on something and then something else crops up that needs attention straight away. It happens to me all the time. I'm just doing something, then something else needs my attention. Tends to slow things down quite a bit. Hope you have time for more video editing, as it will be good to the truck finished. We finally had good rain here in this part of Australia, after another long drought. A few weeks of rainy weather when we couldn't do anything outside, but now it's sunny again, but cooling off as we are in fall here now, with winter just around the corner, unfortunately, as I hate the cold. Hope you get some good weather over there. All the best from Queensland Australia.

      I do want to build a channel up, and that requires me to upload more frequently. I might have to move some things around just to make that happen. Would be nice for the channel to start actually making some money so I could use those funds toward more exciting projects with more possibilities.

      I sure hope so Phillip. Just not really sure how the UA-cam algorithm works. I'm sure it promotes a bunch of crappy channels and holds back a lot of good channels to. It's an enigma :-)

    Do you have a website or business page or is there a way to get a hold of you? I just got rear ended by some idiot without insurance and i don't have full coverage but wanted to see if my car could be saved or not & get a rough estimate. I live in Olympia and randomly came across your channel looking for repair videos lol

      Hi John, I don't have a website, however we can get in touch if you'd like and I can recommend a colleague of mine that's been in a collision business longer than I have. Sometimes him and I collaborate where I will do all of the metal work and then he will finish the project by doing all of the body filler and paint. I know that a lot of the time whenever he works with his customers he will even partially or sometimes fully wave the deductible payment (depending on the situation). I can put you in touch with him so he can give you an estimate. But it is all depends but I'm hereI can put you in touch with him so he can give you an estimate. Hopefully it's not a total loss where the cost of the repair would exceed the value of the vehicle.

      @Fix206 well i only had liability insurance so all of this is coming out of my own pocket 😔 but that's extremely nice of him to do that . I'm not sure how you guys work, or if you only work as a team but i think I'll have the paint portion handled. I'll either paint it or have my good buddy do it he just charges me supplies and a pretty low flat fee... Unless your partner does it pretty cheap which im sure he doesn't cuz i know what goes in to body & paint work and wouldn't feel comfortable asking him to do that. I just gotta pay for everything myself so trying to keep the cost down any way i can. I was more just mainly looking for the metal work

      90% of all the work that my buddy does is insurance work. So I'm pretty sure that would be the rate that he would be charging, otherwise he would be doing work at a discounted rate which I'm not sure most technicians would do, unless they're willing to cut corners. I don't think that would be beneficial to either party. It all comes down to the iron triangle “Fast, Cheap or Good? Pick Two.” Quick + Cheap = Inferior Quality. Quick + High Quality = Not Cheap. High Quality + Cheap = Not Quick or Not Possible

And I'll either get my buddy to help me with paint or I'll save up againv(depending how broke i am after i paid you(if we do business that is) Like i said the guy had no insurance so everything will be coming out of my own pocket/cash so I'm trying to do this as cost effective as possible.(if possible)

Been working and filming a lot, spent some time editing but didn't get too far because of other things are getting in the way.
