    Wow, what a daunting task to take on, as well hold down a job and throw family life into the mix! Fair play to you as you never let it seem to phase you, no matter what is thrown at you. I guess at the end of this whole process you will have the mentality of ‘never again’!

    I watched for the joist install and got hooked. Great job, well done. The music though...I hope it's not your band or something but I genuinely shut the sound off through most of the videos ,mostly because the music is shit but also because it is so much louder than the audio.

    • @POUSEaroundtheHOUSE

      Depends on how much you use, what region you live in, how long you want it. Get a few quotes from scaffolders or knock a few doors of local people with similar scaffolding to get an idea of price. Mine was about £800 but I think I had a good price as I had it up for a year!!

    I think I am correct in stating that you need to clip down the edges of your flashing to stop it lifting in the wind. I guess there are some cleats out there to do the job, but you would have to check.
    As a general point and when the job has been finished, it would be interesting to see over the coming years if any problems manifest as a result of what you have done. If so, what was it that caused the problem and how did you rectify it. Hopefully this won’t be the case, but as a DIYer like yourself, I would be interested to see if your workmanship stands up to the Welsh weather and everything that gets thrown at it! I am currently in the middle of a bathroom refurb and so in some ways in the same boat. I suspect I will make decisions that may come to haunt me down the line! Sometimes, you just have to suck it and see! Good luck to you.

    • @POUSEaroundtheHOUSE
      @POUSEaroundtheHOUSE  4 роки тому +2

      I agree. When you do your own work you can really evaluate it and test it over time. It's one thing to make a job look good and walk away but what will it be like 3 years later? However so far, so good. The outside has been in place for two wet winters and not a trickle. As the roof wasn't plasterboarded or insulated for a while I really got chance to check all the potentially vulnerable points around velux windows etc. It's been great. The facia vents work well and the insulation kept the house warm last winter. So fingers crossed. It would have been nice to have someone do it in 6 weeks though! Thanks for comment.

      POUSE around the HOUSE For sure! Reckon i’m a bit older than you and getting to the stage where i don’t want to spend every weekend doing boring DIY anymore. No matter how much yiu do, the list never seems to shrink and in the meantime, life is passing you by.
      The only reason I am doing the bathroom at the moment is because I had water running down the walls and so had obviously to deal with the matter. It was so badly done 20 years ago, that now is the time to rip it all out and do it properly. After it is done now, I don’t intend to do any more big jobs until I retire! I find it too stressful trying to get things done during the weekend and then living in a building site for weeks / months; i’m sure you know what i mean! :-)

    The soaker at the bottom to the apron should not have been cut but dressed round with cover.the apron should have been installed before you fit the soakers,extending 150mm cut an welded round to accept the soaker.. The vertical slating is not necessarily a good idea as if a slate falls out in years to come,a nightmare to replace especially ifover a conservatory etc.you should have either clad thedormer cheeks in welted lead panels or timber clad.its not proper roofing to be honest.

    • @POUSEaroundtheHOUSE
      @POUSEaroundtheHOUSE  3 роки тому

      Vertical slate cladding is fine if done properly, and it looks nice. Timber would need treating every few years. Nothing wrong with this, dormers have been done like this for years.
