Wow! What a great series of vids, just spent the last two days binge watching the lot. Great work mate 👍
Thanks for the feedback.
@@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE hi mate, do u need to use copper nails for eternit like with real slate, and can I use code 3 lead for soakers, cheers
inspirational! Those tiles look mint. Much better than the thick concrete tiles i have on my roof which rattle in the wind. Thanks for explaining the reason behind using your counter battens too. Made perfect sense as soon as you said it.
Thanks for watching.
Big fan and there will always be haters.
Clearly some people think that they are perfect
Fair play to you for even attempting to build a loft dormer on your house 👏👏👏👏
Keep up the good work
Can't wait for the next video
Huge thanks
Thanks for watching!
Doing my loft extension now .Your videos are a godsend especially the lead soaker clips
Glad to help.
Looks lovely 👍
Thanks for the feedback.
Solid. Excellent video

These videos are so good. You've done such a good job the detailed explanation is fantastic.
Its taken me long enough! Thanks for the feedback and thanks for watching.
@@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE how did you secure the joists down.
@@igloodesigners I screwed them to the wall plates.
@@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE with an L bracket or through the wood into the brick.
@@igloodesigners screwed through into timber wall plates. I used the odd bracket where I struggled to get a screw straight through joist.
Absolutely brilliant, can't wait for the next video.
Thanks for watching.

Thanks James.

@@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE in north Hertfordshire.....
3:01 the cloth is vertically overlapped, so water can get in sideways?
It’s better to place full battens up the hip and mitre the battens to it. Apart from that. Good work
Thanks for the feedback.
Hi Pouse, love the videos and been a great help for me on my roof build. Can i ask how you dealt with the external corners on your dormer please? I am going to slate my dormer cheeks the same as yours but i cant see anything on how to make the vertical external corners water tight. I am thinking lead underneath wrapped around. Any advice appreciated, cheers, Doug
Hi Doug, yes that's right. You use lead soakers in reverse so to speak. Lead then slate then lead then slate and so on. Cut your slates to leave only a small amount of lead showing in the join. If you use patination oil on your lead it will go a nice dark colour and mine just blends in with the slates. If I get my act in gear you will see it in upcoming videos. Hope that helps. Good luck with your project.
@@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE awesome, makes perfect sense. Thankyou very much and keep up the great work!
Patination oil is excellent.Amazed how the lead darkens down after a short while .
I find tyvek supra is prone to condensation
I have the air gap between it and the insulation board with fascia vents providing air flow as per building regs so hopefully shouldn't have any issues.
👍
Thank for watching.
Are u putting soakers behind the slate mate?...
So any rain can track down in behind and onto the felt...?
Cos that is a definite roofing no no...?
So lead soakers are a no no? Interesting. Thanks for watching yet another video.
POUSE around the HOUSE
I didn’t say that. But that little L shape piece of lead and the same on the window tray is pointless ... should be welded 👍
Did you rivet the slates?
Yes as these are fibre cement slates. Real slate don't use rivets but you can use clips. Hope that helps.
OSB aint great to screw your battens to...would 12.5mm ply not have been better,?
It's 22mm osb board and I screwed through into the verticles 2x4 stud timbers behind. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
@@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE it's still OSB on external walls...asking for trouble with our weather
@@davehole643 it's covered in tyvek membrane and will be slated, it won't get wet.
Be better with weather proof ply.

When you say young pouse do you mean you when you were younger or your son 🤔
@@rokalot2436 me about 15 years ago!
Can I get a job wf you lolol wat is it you do lad its not roofing
No Slater would ever call them tiles by mistake, not evan slates, fibre cement
Just as well I'm not a 'slater' then. Thanks for watching. 👍
