Josh is an incredibly professional drummer and rocking these tunes is no easy task. Everybody has a different feel, and when you're replacing another drummer (or drummers in this case) you have to own it and be yourself. Kudos to him for filling these big shoes, and no it will not feel like Taylor or Dave but he's a monster nonetheless!
The too fast thing i keep reading on different vids of this cracks me up...first Dave is setting the tempo...for fun I took this version and put a click on it 158-160(or 80 depending on how you see it) randomly I picked a 2017 live version with Taylor...guess what? 158-160...both Taylor and Josh have amazing tempo...and guess who they are going off of at the start of the song,yeah...the other drummer in the band. Give the the guy a break and set your bias aside.
It just feels like Taylor always knew where the pocket was, that perfect spot. Josh beats the hell out of it, but it doesn't sit in the pocket yet. That's true of most of his performances so far, in my useless opinion. Josh knows the material, he feels it, but he needs to stop trying so hard and relax. Find that sweet spot that Taylor found. It can still be in Josh's style, but he needs to relax.
I completely agree. I saw the Fighters live a few years ago and Taylor rushed almost every song. The whole “Josh rushes” thing is stupid. And I’ve been a fan of their’s since the beginning. This dude is a great replacement. But Taylor’s gone now. Time to move on
