One of the funniest things about what Jehovah's Witnesses teach is that everybody all had the same ideas and teachings and were unified in beliefs, calling the Jerusalem based apostles a universally governing body that settled matters for the very early church, because they think that their model of their modern hierarchy is modeled after that arrangement and their assignments given by God. When the reality is everybody disagreed with everybody else and it took the church several hundred years to hammer out orthodox doctrines and practices, which the JWs call the great apostasy that led to immortality of the soul, the idea that all believers go to heaven at death, and that god is a Trinity. Of course they maintain that the gospel according to Matthew was written around 44 CE, Mark a year or two later, and John around 98 CE and was in the same page, after which suddenly the church started getting everything wrong. It's actually quite amazing that the Jesus story survived and flourished like it did, while being mostly wrong for 1800 years until a couple of wealthy guys who made predictions about the end of the world starting showing up to get the story straight. The Watchtower religion began very Jewish and Zionist friendly but dropped that when Hitler started questioning the Watchtower movement. I cannot for the life of me understand how anyone thinks all of these developments have anything to do with an ultimate omniscient being wise desire is that everyone get things correct. What a horrible job that deity has done but JWs are so proud of their uniquely inspired message to restore first century Christian perfect doctrine.

It seems quite scandalous that the "ONE TRUE RELIGION" has an immediate dramatic tension between two of the head honchos who supposedly have the Pneuma of God guiding them. What is this tension? Eating with gentiles.... Jeez, this is such a wild thing to observe if you're someone on the outside who isn't already persuaded (i.e. brainwashed) by this religion.
Non-Muslims observe things that are just silly in Islam, but Muslims reconcile these things in their head. What are your thoughts?

Many gods were reported to say this or something very similar. The gods worshipped today are all amalgamations of gods that proceeded them. The Christian god is a mix of several, including a lot of pagan beliefs regarding the sun (son). the winter solstice festivals were replaced by the birth of Christ, the vernal equinox was replaced by the resurrection. the vernal equinox marks the sun rising (crossing) the celestial equator. The “Rising Sun” became the “rising son.” And so forth. Dozens of gods were have said to be of virgin birth. Very little in Christianity was new - mostly just borrowed from dozens of other fairy tales of the time.

Galatians 1:1-17 Paul does say he is preaching another Gospel, one that he received not from men (James and Peter) but by revelation of Jesus Christ. According to Paul's description of the incident in Antioch Gal 2:11-16 one difference in his Gospel had to do with the separation of Jewish Christians and Gentile Christians over kosher foods and works of the Law. Apparently Paul's Gospel held that there should not be a separation (Gal 2:14). Which, if taken to the logical extreme, might also mean no separation on the basis of circumcision or the sabbath. And this would have earned Paul the accusation (true or not) of teaching against the Jewish traditions (Acts 21:21). For which cause the Zealots of the Way (the Jerusalem church) then try to kill Paul (Acts 22:22, 23:12), in much the same way as Judas Iscariot (the Jewish Sicarii) are portrayed as betraying and trying to kill Mark's Pauline Jesus. It is another of Mark's parables. In fact all of Mark's Gospel is an attempt to have his Jesus authorize Paul in much the same way Paul claimed he was authorized by his revealed Jesus. That is, Mark's so-called historical Jesus authorizes Paul in the same way Paul's revealed Jesus authorizes Paul. And this is why Mark emphasizes "authority" in his Gospel (Mark 1:22).

The context scholars tell us that going ‘to the Gentiles’ in Paul’s letters refers to a place, not a people, i.e. ‘into the Hellene’ or pagan regions where he would preach his gospel of God sacrificing his Son to atone for the sins of the world, but by ‘world’ he is referring to the non-Judean Israelite population living around the Mediterranean Sea who have fallen into pagan practices and abandoned tenets of Torah Law around things like ritual bathing, eating clean foods, circumcision, etc. His argument with Peter and James the Just is not about the baptism of Greeks and Romans into the Jesus Movement, it is about whether these non-practising Israelites needed to get back to obeying Torah Law before they can be baptised. Consider how Paul keeps referring to Hebrew laws and scripture in addressing his congregations without explaining their meaning, i.e. the circumcision debate would have no particular meaning for Greeks or Romans, but Israelites would know exactly what he was talking about. There is also the matter of the urgency of his message, as he believes that Jesus the Christ is returning to earth imminently and that it is his job to make sure that all the people of Israel hear the message of salvation before the Parousia. Paul was never so naïve to think he could convert the whole Roman Empire to the Jesus movement in the short time he believed was available. I think this misinterpretation of the meaning of ‘Gentiles’ is what gets people confused about what Paul is trying to accomplish and why debates like this one keep going around in circles.

The Gentiles, or "Nations", still includes the people in them. It's indirectly a people group, or rather various people groups as long as they are not Jewish.
It's difficult to read Paul as only speaking to non-Judean Israelites and not non-Israelites as well, though thats a somewhat popular idea going around the internet. It's also difficult to read that the issue was non-Judean Israelites not keeping the law. Not keeping the law of Moses was the practice of everybody not a Jew, not just non-Jewish Israelites.

If around 5% at the time were literate in Greek and less extremely literate so as to write elegantly, and since the New Testament is written in Greek, some of it quite elegant - does that mean by the middle of the first century it was primarily the highly educated who were followers ofJesus? I think Paul was not just exhorting the Gentiles in his flock not to get circumcised, keep Kosher, or keep the Sabbath and the high holy days, but also the Jews in his churches as alleged twice in Acts 21, vv. 21 & 28. His letter to the Galatians certainly comes off as Paul arguing that because he's not talking about heathen "beggarly elements" but rather Hebrew ones.
This certainly has to be true because it would not be the Gentiles that James would want to keep the specific Jewish Laws per the letter he gave Paul in Acts 15 and reminded Paul of in Acts 21. But he certainly would want the Jews in the diaspora to be circumcised, keep kosher, keep the Sabbath, and keep the high holy days.

    @Dizzinator2114 5 місяців тому

I actually think Bart is wrong here when you read Galatians 1 & 2. I don’t think Paul mentioned this altercation with Peter solely about eating with gentiles. You have to keep in mind everything that’s written before he mentions this. Paul starts off by saying that he has heard that another gospel is being preached to them and then says that it’s not one at all and that there is only one gospel and basically states this one gospel is the one he preaches and he asserts that he got this through revelation of Jesus Christ and not through any man. So his point it to separate himself from the apostles and even Jesus himself in the flesh.
He then proceeds to state that years after his conversion is when he met Peter and James and that he didn’t meet any other apostle and they didn’t teach him anything. Moving forward Paul then speaks about this other party of people in Jerusalem who were of reputation (from the context this is what I believe to be the acts 15 Jerusalem council.) Paul says he believe these people were spying on him and even says the only reason he shared his gospel with them was to make sure he wasn’t running in vain( meaning to make sure he wasn’t believing and teaching the wrong thing). He then says that not even Titus who was with him was compelled to be circumcised he then says these are that there were false brethren who snuck in to see their liberty (which means to me). Paul and them likely weren’t keeping the law and someone ratted them out . Then he mentions those of high reputation added nothing to him and then says god shows no partiality and it makes no difference to him. He then states that Peter was sent to the circumcised and and that he Paul the uncircumcised and that Jesus was working through them both and that on the contrary Peter James and john saw that he had been given grace and gave him the right hand of fellowship and that the only thing they told him to do was remember the poor(which he was already eager to do). Meaning they also didn’t add anything to me.
So now we have the important information to this situation where he confronts Peter. These same people from of above who he was arguing with about circumcision are now said to be from James meaning they are close to James and dare I say they all likely held similar beliefs.
When they got there basically everyone began siding with them and not so much Paul and not eating with the gentiles. The verse even says Peter became aloof and was fearing the party of the circumcision who came from James, even barbabas.
So what we are being shown is that there was a clear divide between this sect with James and Paul. It was not merely about eating with gentiles hence why Paul spends so much time distancing himself from Peter and the other apostles and laying out that he has to check Peter.

    Acts 9 :6-7
And he trembling and astonished said, lord what will thou have me to do?And the lord said unto him, arise and go into the city and it shall be told thee what thou must do. AND THE MEN WHICH JOURNEYED WITH HIM STOOD SPEECHLESS, HEARING A VOICE BUT SEEING NO MAN.
    Acts 22:7-9
And I fell unto the ground and heard a voice saying unto me Saul ,Saul, why persecutest thou me?and I answered, who art thou lord?,and he said unto me, I am Yeshua of Nazareth whom thou persecutest. AND THEY THAT WERE WITH ME SAW INDEED THE LIGHT AND WERE AFRAID ;BUT THEY HEARD NOT THE VOICE OF HIM THAT SPOKE TO ME.
    Acts 26: 13-14
At midday o king I saw in the way a light from heaven above the brightness of the sun, shining around about me AND THEM WHICH JOURNEYED WITH HIM AND WHEN WE WERE ALL FALLEN TO THE EARTH I heard a voice saying unto me, and saying in the hebrew tongue Saul, why persecutest thou me?
I find it strange that all three times Paul tells his on the way to Damascus covertion store it changes. And there are no named witnesses to his covertion store( just the men)
    Definition of a hypocrite
    1) a person who puts on a false appearance of virtue or religion
    2) a person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings.
    Galatians 1:10
For do I now persuade me or God.? Or do I seek to please men?for if I please men, I should not be a servant of christ........now read
    1 Corinthians 10:33
Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved........now read
    Colossians 3:9
Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds.......now read
    Roman's 3:7
For if the truth of God hath more abounded through my lie unto his glory;why yet am I also judged as a sinner?
    1 Corinthians 9:20
And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews;to them that are under the law as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law.
    1 Corinthians 9:21
To them that are without law being not without law unto God, but under the law to christ, that I might gain them that are without law.
He claims to have become as under the law and then without the law, which puts on a false appearance of acts in contradiction to his stated beliefs or feelings. Paul is a confessed hypocrite by the very definition of the word. Paul says it himself he became all things to all men.
    Galatians 1:8
But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you, let him be accused.
    Matthew 5:44
But I say onto you, love your enemies, bless them that hate you and persecute you;that you may be children of your father which is in heaven ; for he maketh the sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? Do not even the publicans do the same?
As for acts 10:11.....read the hole chapter, its meaning was call no man unclean.

It makes sense to me. God hated Esau. Jesus didn't care about any earthly inheritance. The ruler of this world, who has been condemned, offered all the nations of the world to Jesus. (Jesus) turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! (Mat 16:23 NABO)
Isaac blessed Esau saying: Ah, far from the fertile earth shall be your dwelling; far from the dew of the heavens above! (Gen 27:39 NABO) (In a galaxy far, far, away, so to speak.)
My kingdom does not belong to this world. (Joh 18:36 NABO)

Then I took my staff "Refuge" and snapped it asunder, breaking off the covenant which I had made with all peoples (Noahic covenant) (Zec 11:10 NABO)
Then I snapped asunder my other staff, "Heritage" (Deu 32:8) breaking off my brotherhood with (between?) Judah and Israel. (Zec 11:14 NABO)

The question is who was Paul? In fact, who were the Apostles, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John? Nobody knows who any of them were, of course that's because nobody even knows any of their surnames. Yet the stories they told 50 years after the apparent crucifixion of Jesus, is considered to be the bedrock of the Bible. I'm afraid it all makes the evidence for the existence of God look firmly based in mythology and ultimately the human imagination.

Umm, hate to differ here big time. Sometimes I get the feeling Ehrman is still 'preaching' a gospel!. Heres what Erhman is completely missing when he tells the tale about peters dream in Acts. Peter sees a sheet full of animals. Hes told to eat with his response being hes always been kosher. Then listen to peters gestalt.....
Acts 10:28 And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any ......*man*....... common or unclean.
The creatures in the bed sheet are "MEN" thus this dream is not about dietary kosher laws as Ehrman is trying to say. And remember what the voice said, ARISE, KILL AND EAT and peter is saying they are men. Here look at these.....
Da 7:5 And behold another beast, a second, like to a bear, and ****it raised up itself on one side****, and [it had] three ribs in the mouth of it between the teeth of it: and they said thus unto it, *****Arise, devour much flesh****.
Ac 12:7 And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon [him], and a light shined in the prison: and ******he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise***** up quickly. And his chains fell off from [his] hands.

OK, I am fairly new to your channel, but I have commented on, at least one video. For me, coming from a Christian tradition that didn't believe in inerrancy of the Bible, you all seem to have thrown the baby out with the bath water." What if the Bible is not without error. In the new testament, what is important is what Jesus left us as guidance on how to live. We know that the Gospels were written for different audiences who faced different challenges. Why not accept that rather than attacking them because "the end days" didn't come in a timely manner. I think Jesus had a lot good to say. Timothy may not have liked women, but remember Jesus's words and actions. Was not "husbands love your wives" a revolutionary statement on treating women as equals? There is much good that various religious traditions have 'messed up.'
But, it seems to me, Jesus's words remain. Thanks for being truly thought-provoking.

  • @danaleanne38
    @danaleanne38 5 місяців тому

There is no proof, Yeshua Paul, acts was written by Luke and Luke didn't meet Paul until chapter 16.That means everything Luke wrote was told to him by Paul. Secondly Peter did not agree with Paul's teaching. Paul went to Jerusalem to visit James and Peter. James and the other apostles said to Paul "You see brother how thousands there are among the Jews of those who have believed. They are zealous for the law and they have been told about you, that you teach all the Jews among the gentiles to forsake Moses, telling them not to circumcise their children or walk according to or customs. Then Paul tells James that the people were lying on him and that he does not teach against the law of circumcision or the law.
    Acts 21:23
Do therefore what we tell you. We have four men who are under a vow, take these men and purify yourself along with them and pay their expenses so that they may shave their heads. Thus all will know that there is nothing in what they have been told about you, but that you yourself also live in observance of the law.
Then Paul agreed to go through with it.
    Acts 21:26
Then Paul took the men ,and the next day he purified himself along with them and went into the temple giving notice when the days of purification would be fulfilled and the offering presented for each one of them. Then Paul wrote epistles to the churches, telling them circumcision counts for nothing.
So the reason Peter cosigned for Paul is because Paul deceived him. That doesn't make Peter false and Paul admitted that he becomes who he needs to become to win who he wants to win. To the Jews he became a Jew to the Greeks he became a Greek.
The fact is Yeshua warned of false teachers to come and Christians don't care to figure out who that is. Yeshua warned Ephesus about men who call themselves apostles and are liers, yet Christians don't care to investigate to figure out who they are. Why aren't you concerned that you could be following the very person Yeshua warned Ephesus about. We need to be scrutinizing the men who were circulating Ephesus at the time and Paul fits all the clues Yeshua gave. There are only three men who presented themselves as apostles of Ephesus Paul ,Timothy, and Sylvania also John because when Yeshua charged John to look after Mary after he left. John and Mary moved to Ephesus. Then Paul wrote Timothy telling him to guard Ephesus from the opposing teacher, which could only be John. John established a church there and taught to keep the commandments of eternal life.
