Tony's got that proper craftsman air about him, you just know from looking at the guy that he knows his shit. I used to work with someone like that and they're honestly worth their weight in gold, because not only do they know their shit, they know it so well they can teach it to others effortlessly.
@@mightycarmods these LS blocks are getting harder and harder to get used in the states, especially because the truck blocks are 600hp reliable engines with some mods and will go for thousands of Ks. GM overbuilt these things, and will never top them.
@@mightycarmods also, if you want an LS truck block, I have on sitting the garage as a spare for my cargo van, you buy it for a reasonable price and pay the shipping, and you can have a gently used LMF code iron block from a cargo van with a fixed cam, 5.3l v8.

I wish my dad was still alive to see this, he was locally famous for his engine work, especially with the Chevy/GM V8. He had a lot of old school tricks that I wish I could have learned.

The most entertaining car I've ever own was a 550i, but hated the engine problems it was known for. I've always thought an LS swapped BMW would be the holy grail of a daily driver! I'm glad to see this one get some more attention.

Thanks lads! This project was the reason I decided to actively look for an LS for my own BMW, an E36. It was always the end-goal of my Bimmer to put an LS in it, and when I watched this project I realised the money I had saved up to paint the car would be enough to get an LS1 where I live... I also realised I should either find an LS1 now, or they'll become too expensive to ever do it. I found a motor at the start of the year, snapped the same oil pump bolt as you, Moog, but am currently waiting for motormounts to arrive in the mail from the United States of Awesome! :D (And I'm sure people here in the comments will think "oh how boring another LS E36"... Here in the Netherlands, I believe there's not a single *street legal* E36 with an LS. And I want one ;) )
Man, seeing so many older legends in recent YT videos across-the-board and I think a dedicated series to each, would be an absolute killer thing to have happen!
I really enjoy being along for the ride. As "In The Bin" has joined the legendary ranks with "First Step, Jack Up Your Car" Also very much enjoy learning from you guys as you're learning yourselves. I doubt I'll ever have an LS... but it's still GREAT to watch!!

I gotta say I'm not usually a fan of LS swap fan, and would of said "you need a BMW engine in a BMW", but it's actually been an awesome build, and it's nice to see more episodes on the E30! Looking forward to the results from the cam and everything else!

I enjoyed this film, the E30 BMW is timeless, so is the LS line of engines. Hate all you want on GM products, but the LS series of engines is one of the best bang for the buck, reliable, big power potential engines known. The E30 speaks for itself. How BMW went from the E30 to the garbage they sell now is beyond me 🙄 Would love to see more on this particular build. Just amazing, and is something most people can do themselves. Kits are sold all over the world to do this to an E30. Keep up the good work guys👍😎
Pen magnets through the pushrod holes is another way to hold the lifters up. Some folks do the roulette method, but I'm not a gambling man. Also you can use the long water pump bolts on the cam to help with removal. Awesome content as always!

Just finished doing a major rust repair job on my E36. I think next time I'll leave it to the professionals. Cutting, forming and welding thin metal is no joke.
So happy to see this car again! I love the e30. You guys make, without a doubt, some of the best car content in the world right now and it's all for free! Crazy. The Miss Daisy build was the first episode of Mighty Car Mods I ever watched and I haven't missed a video since. So I understand the importance of sponsored builds to keep the lights on and keep giving us all of this stuff absolutely for free. That being said I was really disappointed to see the state of the comment section on this car’s last video. I understand why some people got upset about the surprise but it really made me sad to see some of the comments that were left on that video. Honestly thought this community wasn’t like that. I'm sorry to even bring all that bullshit up again but I love you guys and I can't wait to see more of the e30. Keep it up👍
5/16, 3/8, 8mm, or 9mm dowel pins are the ticket for holding lifters in place while swapping the cam. However, even using multiple small dowels (IE Tig Rod.. ask me how I know.. lol), work just fine. Funny to see you guys venture into LS engines right as I finally go into building myself an LS car as well. Great minds think alike.
I'm stoked that they brought back the e30 for more refinement! I'm also glad they kept the LS engine in it; I've always been fond of LS swaps in any car. Would it have been cool to see them do a turbocharged bimmer L6? Yeah of course. Is the LS the more practical and logical choice? Absolutely (And I'm saying this as a very big BMW fan). If they went with say an N54/N55 or b58 then it would have to be more episodes. This e30 revamp series is supposed to be a good filler until super gramps is figured out; so not a slew of videos like the civic build they just finished. I totally agree with keeping it LS swapped.
I liked the car, the LS wasn't the most interesting but it was still cool. My biggest qualm was just how dumb the COD stuff was. Now we get to see it without it.

Not only MCM, there’s some other UA-camrs that are/have done E30s recently. And some of these are also LS swaps. I just hope E36s remain under the radar until I can find a decent one.

wow this car. through november I had a bad case of covid (low oxy blood number, couldnt sleep, all the sympthoms). This build and videos of it helped me forget in what kind of shit I was. Hope you give it the attention it deserves.
Man must be nice having it all out on the stand like that. My cam swap I did it with my buddy in his garage still in the car over 8 hours. These guys went all out sheeesh!
IIRC POR15 paint is similar to superglue in its make up. I found this out after painting some chassis parts and getting it all over my hands and clothes to find out that it would take weeks to come off my hands. Actually took closer to 2 months - yep its pretty durable paint!! Clothes went IN THE BIN.
Finalllly doing something decent with a LS, not just something slapped in a chassis.. Cam changes it and makes it 10x better regardless of all the LS haters etc etc Love ya work guys 👌
I love how at the beginning of the video he says "were not gonna change anything with the motor, its fine like it is." Then a couole mins into it he says "we're changing the cam to add more power."
Good on you, that you're putting it in the hours in this. It was a great build. Also, pretty much going to be one of the last great times to have fun with a car like this whilst it's cheap-ish. I think that because of BMW's current senile design, these older units might appreciate in price. I'm certainly not giving up mine after seeing the last ... thing, that came out of the factory.

IIRC POR15 paint is similar to superglue in its make up. I found this out after painting some chassis parts and getting it all over my hands and clothes to find out that it would take weeks to come off my hands. Actually took closer to 2 months - yep its pretty durable paint!! Clothes went IN THE BIN.

Finalllly doing something decent with a LS, not just something slapped in a chassis..
Cam changes it and makes it 10x better regardless of all the LS haters etc etc

your E30 is O.K. but its nowhere near as cool and pure as my itb orbital rotary k series electric steam hybrid swapped E30
I live in the U.S. and LS motors are literally everywhere. They are in everything and super easy to get.

Good on you, that you're putting it in the hours in this. It was a great build. Also, pretty much going to be one of the last great times to have fun with a car like this whilst it's cheap-ish. I think that because of BMW's current senile design, these older units might appreciate in price. I'm certainly not giving up mine after seeing the last ... thing, that came out of the factory.
