Be one of the first to see this new re branded machine from APTC the machine more commonly known as the Excalibur EX21 has just got better and a whole new look
Well Dave , It arrived on Tuesday as stated, the setup was simple , And it came almost perfectly ready to use . I had to set the blade angle a couple of mm, and tighten the blade by about 6mm of a turn on the tensioner , other than that it is fine , Ok I have never used a scroll so it is alien to me . But on my first few goes with the saw I was impressed , It is far more capable than I am .I now need to practice guiding the wood at the moment I am not getting it right , But hey , Practice makes perfect, thank you for the vids , And I am glad I have viewed then now , Phil
I'm so glad I watched this video because I was going to buy one of these in the future from Amazon at a price of over £1,400 but now I'll be making my purchases from the same place as you at more than half the price so thanks.
Glyn Shirt all donations are greatfully received lol but seriously I'm glad I could save you as I think you will quickly see that despite the price is one of the best machines
David Gladden it seems like a good machine what I've seen on UA-cam. If I could afford to donate I would but I'm on the sick at the moment needing a hip replacement but thanks again
It turns out that the thin board top that I have the saw standing on is acting like a drum skin, making the saw very load but it will go with the new custom built stand
Hi Dave , Me again, Well I have taken the plunge and ordered the Axminster EX21. Should arrive on Tues . I will let you know what I think when I have had a play lol.Keep up the great work and Vids. Phil....
Hi Phil thats good news Im sure you will be happy with it just make sure you give it a good solid stand to make it work at its sweetest and yes please keep me up to date with how you get on with it
Hi Dave, just received mine yesterday but I am having trouble finding the blade holder tubes the right size to slot in the side. Do you know of anywhere to buy these? Good reviews and it's a great scroll saw. I went for the 30 inch. Thanks Dave.
Hi Dave , would you recommend this scroll saw ?, Hegner seem to be the go to machine at the moment . but this unit has far better features , A much bigger motor ,and is a lot less money , I am thinking of getting 1 . So I value your comments.
Hi Phil I will be honest, I am quite new to scroll saw work but as you can guess I have a good I for tools having bought and used them for so many years both on site and in my workshop, but when it came to buying a scroll saw I like you did some research first and one that stood out for me for being a good all-rounder was the Excalibur EX21, now the suppliers for this company in the UK is Axminster Power tool Company, now as I was making enquires to this company has they were just re-branding the Excalibur EX21 to read Axminster Trade EX21 but it is still the same machine. Now having used it for a short while and on a few projects I am more than pleased with my choice, it works as well as I could have expected. I hope this helps you to pick the right saw
Hello David and thanks for sharing, I bought the machine , I have one question , where can I buy a foot switch that can attatch to the Axminister please?
I have very recently purchased one of these from Axminster ,and at the moment i'm still in the process of making a steady bench for it, but in the half an hour or so i have played with it, it ran a lot quieter and smoother than this one. It would be interesting to know what the problem is, and what Axminster had to say.
+gary s I sent the machine back as they also thought something was wrong after watching the video, but after much checking it would seem that the problem was in the sound on my video and in real life it is not so bad and the fact that I had it on a very noisy desk top, so with luck and after I make a good stand for it I will try again.
+David Gladden HI David this dose make some sense, because after making what i thought was a sturdy bench for my EX21 it would still produce some worrying residences and vibrations at certain speeds, so i went back to the drawing board and modified the bench further by almost tripping the thickness of the top by adding the leftovers of a heavy fire door and strengthening it in every way i could think of, and then bolting the saw down right through bench with some big washes on the bottom, I then screwed the whole thing to the floor and the wall and the improvements were substantial. so as i think scroll saws by design like to create vibration and noise, some good old fashion over the top engineering has made mine a pleasure to use. so good luck David but i am sure a man like you will have no problem achieving good results.
gary s Did you do a video? it would be good to show people the reason why its so important to make things strong and correct its not just us woodworkers going OTT, I have a design in mind for mine which I will do soon and video so please watch out for it, it will be different
Hi Noel, great hobby mate you will enjoy it I'm sure. Yes there the same machine it seems Axminster was given the ability to rebrand the Excalibur and make it good for the UK market I.e with our high safty features
+Amr Emam Hello and thanks for the comment, yes as I mentioned this machine is the Excalibur EX-21 its just had a new coat and a switch added that's it, it really is the same machine
+David Gladden Both machines are indeed identical according to Axminster. However, the noise and vibration levels are in direct contrast to reviews and feedback from Excalibur EX-21 users. Maybe this unit is faulty or needs adjustment?
+David Gladden Your machine is the only Axminster EX-21 Scroll Saw that is featured in video so far. I don't know any other Axminster EX-21 machines and/or owners so I can't refer to Axminster EX-21s in general. From what I know from Excalibuer EX-21 owners, this amount of vibration and noise is means that something is faulty or that something needs tun-up. Or it might be an issue of your microphone. I am am in Europe and I am going to buy an Axminster EX-21 in the very near future.
Yes you are correct there is a fault, as a new comer to this machine I didn't notice the issue at first but after your comment I looked closer and then contacted Axminster and now the issue will be corrected but it is an issue with my machine personally, so I must thank you for your observation.
Hi Dave , well that saw that arrived on Tues packed in on the Sun, tripped the mains . reset mains checked fuse in plug , Ok ready to try again, Nothing . then realised that there was a fuse at the rear changed that , And puffff , shattered that fuse , Anyway Got in touch with axminster , and now have another new machine , So you cannot fault Axminster tools , very professional and a pleasure to deal with , So with that update I will now get used to the art of scroll saw work , keep them vids coming mate , Phil
i was checking how noisy those are and none seem to turn them on...they just keep blah blah :D Its a tool for fak sake, one is to use those not look at them ;)
these machines need to be fastened down to something before you should check how noisy they are, so watching any un-boxing videos wont give you what your looking for try this on as im using it ua-cam.com/video/EkzqWYZpdeo/v-deo.html
