    Unboxing The Best Scroll Saw On The Market! I've got a new toy in the workshop, it's the new Axminster Professional AP535SS Scroll Saw. In this video I will be unboxing, setting up, giving a walkthrough of the machine, sharing my first impressions and demonstrating using the scroll saw. At the end of the video I make a little project and cut out a artist stencil of a wine glass and bottle. This is an extremely high quality, well built machine with a ton of features!

    Hi Sean, I have an old scroll saw and you have just given me the reason to upgrade to the Axmister. I liked All the things you said about it, but I was impressed with the hold down bar and speed of cut. I do not do much scroll saw work due to the poor results I was getting, and the speed was so slow and difficult to get the saw to follow the line.

      Hi John, yes It's a shame old or cheap tools can put people off them, and most people end up thinking it's not the tool for them. But this scroll saw is very intuitive and I don't think anyone would regret the purchase. I'm glad I showed you this tool and you enjoyed the video... if you do decide to take to plunge, I'd appreciate it if you used my affiliate link! Many thanks!

    Greetings, Sean. I have the identical model as you, albeit mine is now four years old and was then called the Axminster "Trade" before it was rebranded as the "Professional". The machine is simply sublime but I was annoyed by the fact that it has the large NVR switch box on the back, which acts as a cut-out and has to be reset by reaching back. I put up with this for four years until now. I have removed that box completely and replaced it - as a switch - with a Proxxon foot pedal. This means that I now have complete control over the instant stopping and starting of the machine without ever having to remove my hand from the workpiece to press the on or off button on the NVR box. This simple change has improved my already enjoyable Axminster experience exponentially.

    It is a rebranded Excaliber. Still an Incredible saw, just many companies putting their name on that saw, not unique. I have the Pegas brand and love it. Although the default "dust collection" stinks. It's two thin plastic film pieces that are sticky inside and dust and small chips get stuck in between the sheets. The dust collection Seemed like a good idea, but does not work well, took mine off pretty quickly. It is nice to have a port mount on the bottom though.

    Get a magnetic digital angle gauge and stick it on the top or side of the upper arm. It precludes having to look underneath to set your angle of cut. These angle gauges are really cheap and useful additions to just about any stationary shop tool.

    Absolutely brilliant tool I love the blade change my record power one is super fiddly and I've never got on with it. It's on my tools list for upgrades but it comes with a pretty hefty price tag

    I had a Dremel Scroll saw that My wife got me and it quickly became a pain in the you know where because of the blade changes. I like this one but that suction hose placement looks akward, especially when then blade is tilted. Thanks for the post!

    Good video with some points worth thinking about. I'm just about to purchase my 1st scroll saw and one of the things I've seem with my research is that blade changing on the cheaper saws is awful and very fiddly. The Axminster looks brilliant but nt sure I can justify it as a 1st purchase even though I love it lol.
    Could you tell me what wood you were using as it looked like the perfect grain and thickness for some of the things I want to make?

    • @SeanEvelegh
      @SeanEvelegh  Рік тому

      Hey,
      I was using ash, Its a really nice work to work with. But tbh for scroll saw work, most thin materials work well. If my opinion, if you did take the plunge you wouldn't regret the purchase. If you buy cheaper, you would likely upgrade later on, but you'd get better results with a high quality machine. Hope that helps!

    • @anonymouspdg6121
      @anonymouspdg6121 Рік тому

      Thanks Sean. I tend to agree that buying the best quality that you can afford is always the best way to go. Nearly £900 is a stretch though as it's not for a business and is just a hobby. The entry level Axminster is only £139. I need to sleep on it lol, decisions decisions.🤣

    Being new to using a scroll saw, it would be great to see a video about the different blades available and when it's appropriate to use them?
    Im just about to press buy on the same model, it's expensive but probably worth it and there's £170 off today. 😀
    Cheers

    Hi Sean. Mine is being delivered tomorrow. Just wondering if you know if its possible to have a foot pedal with this?

    • @thedevilinthecircuit1414
      @thedevilinthecircuit1414 10 місяців тому +1

      Yes. Most all tool dealers (Amazon too) sell an aftermarket footswitch. You plug the pedal into the AC receptacle, and plug the saw's power cable into the pedal. Flip the saw's power switch on. When you step on the pedal, the saw runs. These pedals are inexpensive.

    Just a clone of the Canadian Excalibur

  • @StoneyMeyerhoeffer
    @StoneyMeyerhoeffer Рік тому

    Hey man. Great video. Excalibur, Pegas, and Axminster are clearly sourcing from a similar/same supplier. Maybe King as well. But they seem just a little different. Look at the Pegas saw from Grobet. ua-cam.com/video/DkUqf9KlCRU/v-deo.html It is the Axminster Pro series. For this particular design, I see King as the frontrunner, but I have no idea who is the originator of this design/machine. The Pegas and the Axminster even have the same holes cut in the case sides. So if anyone watching this likes this saw, and is not in Australia, the Pegas saw is the one to look at.

      PEGAS is the inventor/manufacturer of this type of scroll saw....Swiss made, in Vallorbe.

    • @PetrikNZ
      @PetrikNZ Рік тому +1

      @@umbertoorsini5210 I think you'll find it's Excalibur that's the source. The Canadian company that made it, in Canada, folded, It was only after that, that a Taiwan company took over production. They started producing it for a number of brands (including Pegas) each brand with their own little tweaks but for the most part the original design. Pegas did come out with their blade clamps which is a highly recommended upgrade if your branded version of the saw does not already come with them. The Axminster does. I up graded my previous saw branded by Carbatec, an Australian company, with the Pegas clamps, the difference was chalk and cheese.
      The list of brands is growing. The original (Excalibur) made in Canada is no longer, and the brands now, with the same base design if you like, all come out of the same Taiwanese factory. Some of these new brands are Axminster, Pegas, Carbatec, JET, King, Seyco, WEN, and probably more I have missed or are yet to hop on the band wagon. I'm just nervous about what happens if/when China invades Taiwan.
