- If you have a slow Nexus 7 here is how to speed it up. The Nexus 7 tends to lag at times but you can fix this with a few setting changes. Many of these tips that will speed up your Nexus 7 will also work on other Android devices.

The animation tip was the best trick to speed up my nexus 7 and even on my S4.
thanks for this some good tips, what i found useful is disabling some of the google apps i never use for instance if you dont read books on your nexus just disable the google books app same with films etc this prevents them from running in the background, and starting up at boot. also get rid of old apps that you dont use cos they will run in memory as well. ive done this & my nexus runs alot smoother & cooler!

I have the 32gb version but my tablet still runs like shit
They are getting old, as you update it’s going to slow down trying to handle the new features

Its so incredibly sad how badly these tablets have aged. They where amazing tablets when released, but both time and garbage nand flash have conspired to make these things almost unusable.
Such an iconic device doesn't deserve this.
Yeah I agree . I remember how excited I was when I got it and now it just sits there. Drove 45 min away to get it.

I sold mines recently, couldn't deal with the lagging and freezing. I probably won't be buying another Google Nexus is the future again either.

don't mean to be rude but it's stupid that you make a vid to make the tab faster and more efficient and you have a live wallpaper on. That consumes thrice as much RAM as closing the applications (not force close)

When I changed the animations to zero my tablet will now not even turn on. I tried the power button/volume button at the same time and nothing happens. How do I get my tablet back?

Thanks. Very helpful.I have a 2012. Installed a replacement battery. My other devices register 30-65 Mbps. The N7 clocks in at 5Mbps. The other devices display a long list of internet networks but the N7 shows only two.With your suggestions, once an app is opened the transitions are faster, but it is opening an item that is annoyingly slow..Any suggestions?
Does swiping apps off the recent list actually close them? I thought it just removed them from the recently used list...

gabriel hernandez I would but it's near useless now. I have the first generation Nexus 7 and it lags, shuts down on it's own, wont turn back on at times, constantly freezes... It's the same thing with all of these devices it seems. After the 2-3 year mark it's all down hill.
Mine was like that I had to restore I'm on lollipop 5.1.1 and its decent haven't had any crashes yet

XMasie Thomas It might help but it might not. I have done that a few times and it is a bit faster for a short time.
is it just this particular tablet (nexus 7 2012\13) that does this ,or do all smaller tabs do this? do I really need to purchase another small tablet (different brand)??
also I heard that 5.1 lolipop upgrade is suppose to fix this issue?? I hope this is true because I've been reluctant to download the next upgrade... For fear of having to clear out caches & shitt , and it still be slow or even slower

As far as I know it was replaced by Google NewsStand. Not sure if you can bring it back but if you could I would assume you would need to be rooted.

New android update made my nexus slower. I also hate the new keyboard bit.
dereksmallsuk Lolipop update wrecked my nexus 7. It is super slow and even these tips wont fix it. This update was more of a kill for the older devices.

Yip. Ha mine fur a good few years now. Battery ok

How did it make it worse?
I dont know why, but I had it running a bit smoother then when I did this it laged up on swipes, open and closing programs, soforth. I just reset the whole thing and starting a new.
