    Awesome Mike, many thanks for making this video. I installed LineageOs 14.1 using this video. I had a few issues before I got it working 100%. First one was to unlock the bootloader, second was enabling MTP for USB access, and finally after that I got error 7 when flashing the rom. The partitions were damaged so I reinstalled stock firmware 5.1.1 with the Nexus Root Toolkit. After that everything was easy. The link to SuperSu is dead, but it's not hard to find. Cheers!

    Thanks, this was really helpful. I wouldn't have been able to do this without your video.
    Mine was slightly different though.
    I had to install the rom, reboot, turn it off, then install gapps. If I didn't, gapps would not install properly (I didn't have play store the first time round).

    can even do skype calls. I did have a small issue. All the installation
    went smoothly, but the apps from google store are not installing. When I
    hit install, the download is going until the end, but then it restarts
    again. Then I see an error that the app cannot be installed. Right now I
    just downloaded apk files from the internet for the apps I need,
    including the ftrim you mentioned. Obviously this is less secure, but I
    will try to use the tablet for non-secure purposes :)

  • @wegmand
    @wegmand 5 років тому

    Thanks Mike! I followed these steps and everything worked fine. But now I have 2 questions:
    1. I want to try another ROM so do I just repeat the same process, or do I have to do something else to go from the AOSP ROM to a different one?
    2. Do I have to copy the .zip files for the ROM and GApps to the Nexus 7, or can I just install them with the Sideload function of TWRP?

    • @AskMike
      @AskMike  5 років тому

      Hi Dan,
      That depends on the file type, some zip are meant to be flash with TWRP, and if sideloaded one normally is the OTA format. I guess most custom rom is recovery flashable type meaning you can flash using TWRP.

  • @fragxz

    Hey Mike, first of all thank you!
    I installed the new custom ROM and that worked.. so far so good.
    But I have a question regarding the GAPPS: I don't know why, but somehow my Google Playstore doesn't work and even with an .apk it crashes the whole time. In the installation process I chosed GAPPS nano first and now I made a new install with GAPPS pico. Do you have any tips how to fix it?

    • @AskMike
      @AskMike  6 років тому +1

      If you have the time.. just clean up everything and reflashed it. Why don't you try flashing the rom first. Then let it boot up and go back to recovery to flash the gapps.

    Hi Mike,
    I installed the AOSP 7.1.2 ROM using your video and it's working fine, but now there's an updated version of AOSP 7.1.2 available that I'd like to install. Do I have to follow all of the same steps again to install the update? Or is there a shortcut method that will save my Google registration, apps, WiFi setup, etc.?

    • @AskMike
      @AskMike  5 років тому

      Depending on your ROM you want to flash. If it is the same ROM, then if they are available in OTA format you can sideload it direct and your data will remain. If you are flash via custom recovery you can just flash it over without wiping your data should remain as well. For safety sake, just do a back via your recovery.

    "Unless" If your giving information nor instructions you have to give it in a layman's terms

      signature mismatched? Are you installing the correct TWRP? Are you doing fastboot flash recovery ? Once you flash it and use the volume button to boot to recovery, there shouldn't be any mismatch.

      Ask Mike just flash the twrp and then, in the recovery flash the supersu and u have root

    • @AskMike
