Solution 1 worked wonders for my Nexus 7, thanks so much for sharing this! I had tried many things, including wiping the cache, but disabling the dynamic floating preview in gesture typing made a huge difference.
Something I like to do is to go into developers options and scroll all the way to the bottom. There you will see an option of "Background process limit". I like to set mine to "at most 4 processes". I've used "No processes" before but got some force closures. Doing this makes my 2012 N7 reasonable. For those who don't know, to get into developers options, go to Settings>About tablet>tap "Build number" rapidly until it says "you are now a developer". For those new to developers options, be careful in this menu - you really dont want to mess with too much in here. But while you're in here, go ahead and change all animations to "Off" or to "0".
Like others, I found my Nexus First Gen slowing down to the point of getting a replacement. Generally, I'm a light user using the nexus for, reading, playing music, watching a video while travelling, and WIFI access. But when every apps takes such a long time to load and run, it's frustrating. So, I turned off gesturing, set the Background Process Limit to 4, and turned off all animations. After rebooting, the improvement was minimal. But 10 minutes later, the Nexus 7 is now so much faster. Maybe it needed some time to sort through itself. If things change in the next couple of days, I'll provide and update.
Mine dosent have that option when I go to gboard. I think its 1st generation. Do know where I can find the dynamic gesturing thing. Ive turned off everything I can see. Thanks
I do not have dynamic ges ture so I turned off gesture typing as suggested, OMG the difference on speed is day and night. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Now I LOVE my Nexus 7 again.
The only keyboard I have is gboard so I turned off all glide/gesture typing. So far it's working. Thank You! (I also turned off Next-word suggestions in the Text correction setting, just in case.)
Thanks a lot.........I have been using a Nexus tab for the last 8 years, It was laggy all the time, I was going to buy something new, but you helped me.......Thanks a lot 😊
Thanks for the assistance. Option number one did not work, as I only had "Gboard" and the settings were different than what you had. I just completed the Cache Wipe and rebooted, and things already seem to be loading much faster! :)

My options for the keyboard showed “Gboard” not Google keyboard, and I didn’t see the option that you suggested. Any insight into how I get to the keyboard option you needed me to select?
Lynn Moorhead me too. Just disabled the last 2 options out the 3. Stage 2 however I got no where. Holding volume up and power just switches the damn thing off!
i appreciate your process. what happens on mine, however, is that the screen goes blank at the point when i am to press the up volume and power together. perhaps i am pressing power a little too soon?
+nicobixo Okay, i figured it out. YOu don't hold them both down long. YOu just click both up volume and power at the same time once quickly and let go.
I get the same issue, not sure what to do here. My tablet is basically unusable at this point, it takes minutes to open any app and the apps react so slowly that I can't use them. I tried pressing the volume up first, then holding power. Tablet just shuts off after a few seconds. I also tried pressing power and volume up at the same time and holding with the same result.
After going to "recovery mode", do it this way: Hold down the Power button and press and release the Volume Up button once. (Took me a lot of futzing before doing that!)
OMG Thanks, nowi it's like way faster than before.I was almost going to fly my stupid thing out the window and then yell at stupid Google for wasting my money
plz im french guy sory for my english. so on my nexus 7 in the gesture typing i hav at least 4 menu - enable gesture typing - show gesture trail - enable gesture delete - enable gesture cursors control wich menu i should off???? and when i try the solution 2 i cant access to the recovery mode after push POWER + level up. what i can i do? thank you
Using solution 2, I see the "droid" with the exclaimation triangle, but don't see "no command, then I hold power and vol up (second step), it does nothing, for about ten seconds, then reboots. Any suggestions?
Its lollipop OS thats making ur nexus 7 slow. Solution is simple downgrade from lollipop to Android 4.x Use google and youtube to flash the factory image to ur device
I would suggest factory reset after the second step, only if possible and then repeat the first step. ATTENTION: Factory reset removes all the applications and data. Do it at your own risk
True,I had that tablet for 3 years and it decided to act crappy for me.it started to constantly have system crashes and take forever to respond to the power button. For a first tablet it was very good,it had tons of storage compared to the newer devices I get.
Hi Thanks . I found an other solution Setting/Développer_Option/actived/Limit_Proces_in_cache/Select No_process. 😁 Sorry, i translate it directly from french android system.
Lookup TWRP unlock root the device. Download SetCPU crank up your CPU settings and you're fine. Awesome little tablet. For more info, go to: xda developers. Also, dont waste your time downloading from the app store, search for the APK files online and download them all for free. Lastly, dont be a noob.
No one worked, my old Nexus 7 is slow that it takes more than a minute to just lunch Google Chrome. Even after Resetting Factory Form still no benifits
Factory reset mine. Updated all. Pre installed apps (which took forever). Now it's virtually completely broken. Any key press takes about 30 seconds for the action to occur. What's going on?
Solution 1 worked wonders for my Nexus 7, thanks so much for sharing this! I had tried many things, including wiping the cache, but disabling the dynamic floating preview in gesture typing made a huge difference.
Thank you very much!
Solution 1 worked with my Asus tablet! Can't believe how this little setting could slow it down so much!

So I tried the clear cache thing twice from other sources...still so slow! But then you had the gesture typing thing, worked perfect!!! A+ man!
Fun fact from 2017 now the first option is called glide Typing. I just turned everything off and now it works.
Shadow Hound
Thank you.
Cheers 😅
Thanks. Seems to have helped mine, too.
Thanks!
I'm going to give that a go
Turning off dynamic gesturing worked for me. I was ready to throw damn thing out and buy something new. Awesome help!
Glad i could help :)
Mine dosent have that option when I go to gboard. I think its 1st generation. Do know where I can find the dynamic gesturing thing. Ive turned off everything I can see. Thanks

Thanks my dude! The first option helped right away, keep up the good vids ;)
Awesome. Performed step 1, works great! You're the man!
The only keyboard I have is gboard so I turned off all glide/gesture typing. So far it's working. Thank You! (I also turned off Next-word suggestions in the Text correction setting, just in case.)
Thanks Ill try that also.
Thanks a lot.........I have been using a Nexus tab for the last 8 years, It was laggy all the time, I was going to buy something new, but you helped me.......Thanks a lot 😊
The only good solution on youtube, well done!
Solution 1 worked really well for me, thank you!
On a Moto G1 with Andoid 5.1, solution 1 worked for me. Thanks!
Glad to know. Thank you and welcome
Thanks....I don't have dynamic gesture typing...But, I've disabled google voice typing and it improved the performance.
Tried both works amazing now in 2020 thank you
Humm... Removing the gestures helped speed it a little! Thanks for the tip!
Thanks for the assistance. Option number one did not work, as I only had "Gboard" and the settings were different than what you had. I just completed the Cache Wipe and rebooted, and things already seem to be loading much faster! :)
Go into gboard and try turning off all gesture typing. This is what I did and so far it's working.
Turning off dynamic gesturing worked for me. thanks =)
The no command part using the volume up and power just goes to a black screen then I have to push volume down and power to get any options to come on
hey buddy! thanks for the tip! removing there dynamic gesture typing actually worked! so weird though, doesn't make sense. thanks man
Welcome bro
Dat intro sound (awesome :D )

Never updated so I guess it didn't work.
Flash android 4.x on ur device. (Downgrade the device) it will make ur tablet run fast again.
solution 1 improved performance ...Thanks
"Solution 2" - Cache partition directions start at 1:42 btw
Great...you're the one!!! I used keyboard trick !!
solution 1 works. Thanks.
Thanks a lot the second solution woked for me

I figured it out. I had to hold power and volume up for about two seconds and then release them before the recovery interface came up.
After going to "recovery mode", do it this way: Hold down the Power button and press and release the Volume Up button once. (Took me a lot of futzing before doing that!)
Mine worked with app called advanced app killer by infolife LLC, it is specifically designed for lollipop 5.1.1, I had all 3 app killing settings on.
did you know how to fix lagging on screen mirroning??
I have the android 6.0.1, will it work?
The step 1 and step 2 work for me when i uninstalled "google now"

Since you dont have dynamic gesture typing; You may try turning off gesture typing, see if it helps. (no promises)
+Abs Recon -Solutions- thanks a lot. It did work for me.
How can I downgrade, I have no PC and bootloader is locked
Using solution 2, I see the "droid" with the exclaimation triangle, but don't see "no command, then I hold power and vol up (second step), it does nothing, for about ten seconds, then reboots. Any suggestions?
Nothing for me either. Screen just goes blank.
Hold power and volume up for 3 seconds
@@TR2000LT that did it. Thanks!
my screen goes black when in recovery mode I pressed power button and volume up button
Don't Press them long
Once I got to No Command and hit the power & up bottom, my screen went blank. It won't even power on now. Help!
It might still work. Id try to plug the device to ur computer and see if u can use adb (google it) to access the device. Good luck!
the tablet is slow because of the EMMC read and write speeds degrade over time, not much you can do.
When i try to do option 2, and press the power up and vol up button the screen goes black..
Sheryl Doyle You're supposed to hold it for 3 seconds and then let go.
any solution or not

Didn't make much difference doing both, unfortunately.
killerdalek roll back to KitKat 4.4.4
Clearing the cache is not recommended yet so many people swear by it.
Best solution (Throw In the Garbage)
😂😂😂😂
True,I had that tablet for 3 years and it decided to act crappy for me.it started to constantly have system crashes and take forever to respond to the power button. For a first tablet it was very good,it had tons of storage compared to the newer devices I get.

Same here
Dynamic doesn't show up neither does gestures...
Hi Thanks . I found an other solution
Setting/Développer_Option/actived/Limit_Proces_in_cache/Select No_process.
😁
Sorry, i translate it directly from french android system.
I cant find developer option sadly
What are buddons? Mine has buttons lol
I did both things but they didn't improve much things. Sorry

I literally can't unlock the piece of shit to try any of these. Either I got a faulty one or this is one of the worse tablets ever made.
No one worked, my old Nexus 7 is slow that it takes more than a minute to just lunch Google Chrome. Even after Resetting Factory Form still no benifits
Yep Nexus is such a bad optimized product

Try app advanced app killer by infolife LLC and set all 3 killing option to on. it worked for me.
It doesnot work
Puja Kumari flash android 4.x onto ur device. Use google and youtube for instructions
hello this is fast
The problem is faulty RAM that dies slowly. Nothing to do with Lollipop. It's crap chips.
