    Hi Dan, 57 owner & new subscriber. Bought mine as I loved the look. Since then been hard to find any review, let alone a positive one! Long pull yes, love the size, finish & classic style. Loading port can be awkward, but couldn't bring myself to put my fingers into an open breach!
    Horrid twang was deleted after fitting a tinbum kit.
    Its now the one I would grab in a fire.
    Thanks for taking the time to find the good. No doubt you have made several owners very happy!
    Cheers, Martin.
    (love the farm)!

    Thank you for giving a great review of this sweet gun that has gotten unfair reviews of a few who might not even had their hands on a proper one.
    I have enjoyed my own hw57 .22 using H&N terminators (holowpoint diabolos) and exite spike diabolo pellets.
    I have a slightly harder spring in it witch works awsome giving it a bit more range, but still not so hot it do not keep the excellent accuracy this rifle has.
    Only drawback of the gun is when you somehow forget you have the loader open and fire air instead of the pellet and get the loud bang and scare the shit out of the bystanders or pest you try to eliminate.

    Just got my hands on my grandads ‘old air rifle’ as an extra springer to play around with, and it turns out to be a HW57, quality! Can’t wait to take it to the range

    I bought my HW57 15 years ago and never looked back. I wanted a hunting rifle that I could carry around for hours comfortably which is why I rejected the 97 for weight. It was a very competitive price back in the day for an under lever. I've never put anything other than Superdomes through it and had fantastic results. I've taken rabbits, pigeon and pheasant cleanly from standing position at close to 50 yards. The HW57 is my first and probably only air rifle I will ever own and know it will last me a lifetime. Thanks for the video, I think that you enjoyed the experience.

    Great review Dan! Much like yourself I have been after a HW57 for the longest time to go with my HW97! I like the obscure airguns that no one really pays much attention to. That Fontaine Scope is another I have been after to put on my Hatsan Mod 95 .25 cal. Just looking for a 4x40 AO

      I wish HW would make a scaled down version of the HW77K, perhaps 3/4 size, it would be similar to the 57 in weight and do away with the quirky pop up breech. They could offer it with a sporter stock and designate it the 67K, I'm sure there would be a market for it.

    • @byhsu6140
      @byhsu6140 Рік тому

      @Beesa10 that pop up breech is what has kept me away from the hw57, looks, weight, power is perfect, just that unreliable breech.

    I got to totally agree re the record trigger, I have a HW80 in .22 which I bought in the 1980s(yes I’m an old geezer) and was used on several farms for vermin destruction. I still have that HW80 and it still functions as it should. I use the RWS Superdome in it. The best pellet I found was the Eley Wasp which in the Weihrauch was a tight fit. The Eley Wasp pellets used to be well made. The later Wasp were not the same and were or are a load of rubbish. Cheers.

    Good review Dan. I believe Weihrauch have just released a new version of the 57 called the 57k FTS. It now boasts the standard solid 77 type foresight/under lever catch assembly and the rifled barrel is now threaded for standard size silencer too ! Pop up breach now ultra reliable as well. No mention of long length of pull. Must say this version looks great. Love to see this new model tested in .177 flavour if possible. What do you say ? Cheers Brian. ps still waiting for review of gen 2 smk pr900 .177 cal when you can. See also HW57 FTS review in gunmart or on you tube

      The FTS sounds like a fantastic little rifle I'll see if we can get one on film. It's always great news when a manufacturer listens to complaints and updates their rifles. Well done Weihrauch!!

      I've owned two 57's. One was a brilliant little rifle and the other was a piece of which went straight back to the shop. It can be a bit hold sensitive but once rested mine was very accurate.. It can be luck of the draw if you can get a good one.

    There is nothing wrong with the HW57. Thank you for your honest review. The loading port requires a little more maintenance (keep the system lubricated and clean so it closes 100%) I like the fact that it is light, easy to cock, no twang and the new Minelli stock is a improvement.

  • @MrRockstar1968
    @MrRockstar1968 2 роки тому +2

    I'm surprised the owner of the rifle didn't advice the best pellets. The new version of the HW-57 also has a threaded barrel for a silencer. I've never had any problems with RWS pellet skirts, though I did have a tin of the Spitfire pellets which were so badly disfigured that I sent them back and will never purchase them again.

    As usual a brilliant review we had a few of these in the lord ednam bell Target league in 177 but we found them to be inconsistent and unreliable and I think only 1 remains with a lady who found a 77k to heavy the league is dominated by HW 77s Air Arms tx200 or Diana 48/52 and the odd BSA Airsporter most eligible spring powered sporting rifles have been tried over the years and found wanting

    • @bigdansairguns83

      Hi Christopher!
      I believe Weihrauch have made updates to the HW57 platform however it's a shame that they do have spotty reliability at times, when it comes to handling it's far better than the HW77 and HW97 and when you get a good one they're every bit as accurate.
      I've always wanted to try the Diana 440/470TH, I don't suppose you've had a chance to shoot one? I'd love to hear your opinion.

    I've had my HW57 since 2004 and it's been a great little gun. I never had any issue with the breech. I think I shoot it more than my HW77.

    • @harryzero1566
      @harryzero1566 11 місяців тому

      That's interesting, because I don't have a HW77, but think I should have chosen it over my HW57.
      My niggles with the HW57 are, pistol grip to trigger is too much, it doesn't need a 1/2" UNF thread even the correct moderator seems to make no difference and the loading cycle requires nimble fingers and a precise routine to operate.
      Example. Draw back underlever, load pellet, return underlever, pellet drops out sometimes before pressing down the port.
      Example, 2. Draw back underlever, return underlever, loading port drops back a little to further hamper loading.
      Then with both you still have the auto safety to remember. I would never consider taking this HW57 at night on a pest control shoot.
      However, as I have an exceptional HW99s there is very little motivation to change it for anything but another HW100KT.

    • @bensimard5574
      @bensimard5574 11 місяців тому

      @@harryzero1566 I have very long fingers so the reach to the trigger doesn't bother me. My 57 is older and does not have the thread for a moderator. I haven't had those issues with the pop up breach. My breach is fairly snug and has never dropped down on it's own. All of my HW's (7) have an auto safety and you just get used to it after a while. I have an HW50(99) and it's okay but I don't find it to be outstanding in anyway... it gets shot less than my other HW rifles.

    Enjoyed the video as usual and nice to see a Weirauch springer being tested. I bought a HW99S (though I was debating a Cometa after watching one of your reviews) and though not shooting for weeks on end this winter have managed a 5p group with 10 shots over 20 yards...once! I am using H&N FTT .22 pellets at the moment (after the first tin bought another 1000 as I was impressed, it's me not the pellets) with some Air Arms Diablo to try as well. I would really like you to test a HW99S in .22, your reviews are a treat to watch.

      Hi Robert!
      I definitely want to take a look at the little HW99S as they're such a sweet little rifle and brilliantly priced too.
      FTT pellets are excellent and I personally rate them above JSB especially in Weihrauch barrels. It's rare that you find a misshapen FTT or anything H&N.
      I'll see what I can do!

    They still make this HW57, even partnered with the latest cutaway butt, my only gripe is you have to get used to having to return the underlever before pressing down the loading port, in the meantime if the rifle is not held fairly horizontal the pellet can fall out of the pop up breech. The rifle when attaching a moderator is really too long, so i have a spare moderator that i dont use. If I were to go back in time I would have preferred a HW77, but as I also have a HW99S which is such value for money, I'm even wondering if it worth going for the gas ram HW90

    I hope you can find Daisy 22 caliber hollowpoint Pellets. They are the underdog of Pellets in my opinion because when people think of Daisy they think of the movie the Christmas story and you’ll shoot your eye out BB gun. These are not that. They are accurate they are devastating on impact. They expand like no other pellet from JSB,H&N or any other brand that come to mind. There very impressive for the money and I think you’ll get a kick out of them as will other when they realize what they get for the money, and performance. I think they will serve you well sir. I hope and pray they get added to your line up. Note! .177 are NOT designed the same as the .22 cal looks like the base pellet for the Gamo Red Fire🤷‍♂️💯

    Another great presentation Dan. I could imagine pundits' reservations towards the pop-up loading block, because there must be a hidden spring system being difficult to clean and maintain / replace. Squared block moving vertically invites hang-ups. Also, plastic parts seem un-weihrauchian.
    General appearence is less solid than the make's other underlevers.
    Underestimated ? How can the ultimate decision maker, the Market, ever underestimate a product ? It could be called a "niche product".

      It could do, I've had my hw99s and old hw97k tuned they're a bit smoother but the tuning wasnt that much more than what my local gun shop charges for a service, I'd say though if you're happy with the gun as it is then don't bother with tuning, if you're not completely happy with it then get it done. A lot of the time a service can sort twang out.

    Hated the pop up breach, great idea but the build quality isn't onpar with the rest of the hw lineup.
    Just save up and buy the hw77

      That's a great price mate, honestly they're cheaper than the HW77/97 but I prefer it to both. Definitely let me know how you get on but I'm willing to bet it'll be a cracker!

      Hi Ian!
      Thanks for the kind comment, the scope on test is the Konus T-30 Compact. It's the perfect little hunting scope in my opinion. The parallax is set at 30 yards in the airgun model (rimfire is 100 yards) and crystal clear. Works a treat on springers and PCP's especially if you want to keep them light.
      Thanks Ian and I hope this helps.

      Hey Yeti!
      Off memory as I don't have one to hand she's both. The synthetic stock keeps the weight down very nicely and it doesn't feel any heavier than the standard Pretensis. I'll see if we can get one filmed for you mate.

    I appreciate your off hand shooting, but I do wish you would also do some completely rested shots so that we can see what the gun can do unimpaired by the risk of human error. Seems the only way to test what the gun alone is capable of.

      Hey Lawrence!
      In most of our reviews we do shoot off of a rest, these days it is rare that I shoot only off hand.
      That said.... off hand shooting is considerably more fun!

      I had the latest 57. The pop up breech kept shaving chunks off the pellet skirt on closing which messed up accuracy . The one I purchased 18 years ago was the best 57 I owned.

    Length of pull has nothing to do with the trigger reach, it's a measurement from your shoulder to the trigger + Why is the trigger discussed in the handling part of the review, triggers have nothing to do with handling, c'mon Dan.

    • @bigdansairguns83
      @bigdansairguns83  2 роки тому

      Hi Chris.
      You are correct in your statement but considering that trigger position is one of the main factors of length of pull as you'd mentioned yourself then having a longer length of pull therefor means that the reach to the trigger is longer, as can be seen and was said in the video.
      Triggers are absolutely a part of how a rifle handles and can mean the difference between an accurate or inaccurate rifle in some cases.
      Trigger-handling.
