    Fixed my ancient B&D toaster oven this morning (the metal contacts on the door switch had a bit of corrosion and some emery cloth solved it quickly - only 2 screws to remove the side panels and I could have done it with only the one!). In my research process I discovered your video. It had never occurred to me that I could recalibrate my oven control, so I was very interested to see the rest of this video.
    Kudos for persistence!!! In reading the comments (yup, lots of times you learn more in the comments than you did in the video!) someone suggested feeler gauges to aid in calibration and then you seconded that idea. Perfect! As a small engine mechanic I've got loads of feeler gauges so that should be an easy fix. Right now the oven will do about 350 when I set it to 400+ and it's been like that since I got it, so the next time I have to take it apart I'll be messing with that part of the oven.
    Thanks!!!

    I did this same repair with a Black&Decker oven. Thanks for the well produced video.

    Thanks for the video. Wasn't looking to calibrate. My oven kept the heater on forever. Ended up after your video that the thermo contact wasn't releasing and used your truck to adjust it and now it works again.

    You're always showing me something I did not even know I needed to know, but somehow was able to make use of in the same way or in a new way! Always learning something from ya, thanks!
    Here's an idea, with a micrometer can you measure the change made, then compute that? Maybe just making a corrected dial overlay would in fact be easier.

      Always appreciate the channel support!
      I actually just picked up some feeler gauges today. Would have been helpful in calculating EXACTLY what gap I needed instead of the guess and check method.
      Would have certainly been faster to just print a corrected overlay for the dial!
      My unrelenting curiosity always seems to make a mountain out of a molehill haha

    Power XL toaster oven air fryer unit, my toaster setting doesn’t toast the bread, I can hear the Tstat trip early in that setting and the top and bottom elements don’t get hot enough. But on broil the top elements get red hot. It’s a 3 pin Tstat. I’m going to try your technique, thanks.

    I'm wondering if this could be facilitated with a very small self tapping screw (maybe1/8" W and 3/8 L though one contact arm and a silicone or high temp button of insulator on the other contact arm to screw the contacts apart, would work between the two contacts for more consistent calibration...?
    Or, would that hole destroy the nexessary bimetal effect? THANKS!

    Thank you SOOOO much for this video!! I've waited years to find info relative to my issue.
    I have a tiny (appx. 9x9) that has ONE set temp, 400°!! Blast! That's so ridiculous to me. Can I fix it so I can control the temp between 200° and 400°??

    Mine doesn't heat up at all, i open to see if there was a fuse but no fuse

    You don't have to open it up, unless you have to replace the thermostat on your oven, the calibration process is to take that knob off with flat head screw driver and get a tiny, really tiny small size flat head screw driver, there is a tiny adjustment thread you will see it when you take that knob off, clockwise is to lower its temperature, counter clockwise is to the opposite.

      I tried to take out the knob, I broken it, and no screw in mine

    Did it make it all the way? Looked like you were possibly going to run out of throw space to adjust. And I was curious if it was going to change the final max capability..
    Appreciate this channel immensely btw the way. Glad I found it before doing a more serious build.

      Just set to 450F if you want 350F 🤷‍♂️

    • @VanwithTim
      @VanwithTim  Рік тому +1

      Yeah finally got it within 10 degrees and called it good. Would have been easier with a set of feeler gauges to document the distance and the temperature correlation. (on order now lol)
      It does finally go all the way to 485F when set for 480F now!
      Thanks for the channel support. Always appreciated!

    You Do Know the triangle screws are to keep amateur electricians from getting inside? I'm sure there is some legal mumbo jumbo they have to follow. The hex key bolt with the post is another, then you need an Allen Wrench with the hole in it. Never seen a 3 bladed bit so I guess that makes you a Semi Pro. My van is almost done, had to take a few days off to plow 5ft of snow, but I will get to someplace warm soon.

      @VanwithTim  Рік тому

      Yeah my tool box has a good amount of security torx bits, security hex bits, external torx bits, dual pronged bits etc. But yeah the triangle bit was a first for me too!
      Had to deal with the Michigan snow for 23 years. No thank you!
      Think you'll install a cheap Chinese Diesel Heater in there? Mine has been a godsend but it can certainly have it's quirks.

      @@VanwithTim Got my heater behind the wheel well with a 15 liter tank mounted on the inside of the rear door. Those instructions are something else, but got it to turn on.
      Got 2 panels on the roof today, 2 more for tomorrow.

    Just make another mark on the knob that indicates the true setpoint.

      But then I wouldn't have an excuse to tinker around with it!
      Seriously though re-labeling the temperatures would be the quickest and easiest way to solve the issue.

    These thermostats are fairly cheap and should be pre calibrated if like me your too lazy to keep taking the cover off .
