    I have a Bella toaster oven that has barely been used. The timer switch stopped working. I was going to discard it until i found this video. It took me about 20 minutes to fix it and now it is as good as new again. I can't imagine how many of these appliances get thrown out when a simple fix would give them a longer life.. Thank you TheIVJackal.

    Thanks! My Oster 6081 toaster oven's timer was acting strange (stayed on all the time and the bell sounded funny). I opened it and couldn't find anything and the timer stopped working and it fell apart (that little arm thingy). So I ordered a new timer online (DKJ/1-60 timer if someone is interested) and it worked great except it didn't have a "stay on" setting like before. I looked online and it doesnt seem like they are available anymore. Anyway, I saw your video, dug out the old timer from the recycling and garbage put it back together like in your video and now it works! Thanks!

    Thanks a bunch!! My Farberware oven timer would not stop so then it would never shut off and I would have to unplug it. SO annoying! So, I think, as you mentioned, the opposite occurs when the metal plate is too high, and I am right now about to lower it and hopefully it will do the trick!

    Awesome video man... Mine is Emerson and similar switch except mine turn on by trimmer switch the one you have in the middle. But it does has the bell in the back of it and it turns it on not the bake/Toast/Broil setting switch. And when I push it too far out to max time and hold it or push the knob down then it turn on. I am pretty sure that is the problem

    I'm worried about whether super glue or JB weld will stand up to the heat.
    Good video. Our toaster oven contacts seem to stay on even after the timer counts down to zero.

      Yes, sounds like your switch had the same fate as mine. Superglue has continued to hold for mine and has fairly consistently shut off the power as designed. Hope you can fix yours too!

      I used 5 minute epoxy on plastic parts, I had a problem where mine would not turn on no matter what you did. I bypassed the oven door open switch and it is good now. So it is good to test that thing out cause the oven door retraction spring wears and the door don't have quite as much force holding it shut when that happens the switch is no longer pressed firmly and it will not work. this causes a condition where the oven is completely lacking any kind of power.
      Bypassing the switch allows it to work without sourcing new parts however it does make it to where the oven will stay on when you open the door.

    Hey do you think is easy to unplug one the heating elements so it doesn't work? I noticed that my oven bake setting uses both heating elements and I want only the bottom one.
    Because toast setting already has the both on anyway.

    • @TheIVJackal
      @TheIVJackal  6 років тому

      amapolavioleta I would think so? I haven't tried but the wires pretty easily press on/off, I'd suggest wrapping the tip in something after as to avoid any accidental grounding/electrical shock.

    • @amapolavioleta
      @amapolavioleta 6 років тому

      Thanks for answering! :D Yeah i'll def will unplug the oven before trying anything. is there still a chance of electrical shock even unplugged? Thanks!

    • @TheIVJackal
      @TheIVJackal  6 років тому +1

      amapolavioleta Try turning it on a few times after it's unplugged and that should drain any remaining electricity.

    In my case the knob turns fine, but, as I let it go it quickly turns back to its original position by itself. I am guessing some spring (gear) got loose inside.
    How did you remove the knob? Did you pry it off?

    • @TheIVJackal
      @TheIVJackal  7 років тому

      Yes, it just pulled off, it could be pressed on pretty well so just take your time.

      @@TheIVJackal is a loose spring possible to fix? My brother broke my chefman toaster oven because he kept forcing the knob/switch when his food was done early. I've only owned it for less than 2 years, and my brother recently began to use it carelessly even though I expressed that what he was doing was upsetting to me because I was the one to purchase it. Another toaster oven like it will set me back $150. If it's possible to fix, I'd definitely like to attempt fixing it before throwing out. But as you stated, replacement switches aren't sold...so I'm thinking it might not be salvageable? 😕

    • @TheIVJackal
      @TheIVJackal  2 роки тому

      @@rukiakuchiki5136 Sorry to hear it broke. If you have time, take it apart and see if you can get to the internals to determine what exactly failed. I've been able to use old paper-clips twisted up before, to use as a spring in other components, so there's a chance you could potentially do something like that here? You might get lucky finding a toaster-oven you can part-out through a local sales site like Craigslist or Facebook marketplace. Hope you're able to find a solution!

    well, sadly I'm not sure mine's going to work. the ticking part of it seems to have a mind of it's own. sometimes ticking and sometimes not. The problem I had before was that even when the timer was done, the oven would turn off but it would keep ticking, and because it was ticking, the knob was still turning and eventually it would turn to the "stay on" position causing the oven to turn back on! I checked the metal plate and turning it manually, it looks like it is making contact, and when it's not suppose to, it's not making contact. So doing what it's suppose to be doing. So, that has me confused.

    • @TheIVJackal
      @TheIVJackal  7 років тому

      Interesting, sorry it didn't quite work out. Try running the timer taken apart and see if something is misaligned, missing, etc... Almost sounds like something is broken if it never stops and just unwinds itself back to an ON position.

      so I got mine fixed! after accidentally allowing all the spinning parts to get lose and had to put them all back! ugh, that was the worst part of the whole deal. But, I did have to lift up the middle part of the metal piece so that it would push against that black part (you know the piece that fell off on your video) so that it would stop the timer going. Now it works great! Thanks!

      @@TheIVJackal So your fix that I did lasted a whole year! I just had to fix it again, and thankfully I remembered what to do once I got it all apart. However, I had to try 5 different times because that darn metal piece is so picky! Worst design ever. So, this last time I waiting to put the cover on to see how long it lasts. It will work several times and then the metal must wear down again. It's hard to get it bent enough so that there is good pressure, but not so much that it won't have connection. Thanks again for your video :) Oh, and your part is exactly the same part as my Farberware toaster oven. I'm wondering if we could just order that part only?

  • @ferrarim5p75

    Three-quarters into the video and I was thinking: Now, a warning?!! Mua ha ha...
    The last bit where you made the connections and turned it on, and you held on to the timing switch, is dangerous and should not be done! The electricity is coursing through the timing component at that time!

    • @TheIVJackal
      @TheIVJackal  7 років тому +1

      The WARNING is in the description of the video.
      Have you not been shocked before? It really isn't that bad and I was being cautious/aware of where I was holding the switch. If you want to be extra careful, don't hold it.
