These amps are rated at 14.4. Not 13.18 volts. Upgrade the voltage supply and clamp it. These amps will do 1400+ watts certified all day. And rumor has it they will do 1800-1900 watts dynamic all day. I think your testing method is faulted.
After watching this video again, I'm starting to think the amp is bad. With that in mind, this amp is 14 years old. So it really wouldn't surprise me if a few of the mosfets are smoked or the thermal protect is bad causing it to misread.
Great test bro, keep them coming! I think you may find you are let down more often than not, the more amps you test...and it's a total bummer, I've been bummed WAY more often than I've been surprised.
Yeah, I still haven't tested an amp other than the Planet Audio that didn't do rated, but I expected that. But I have done quite a few I thought would be powerhouses and had a ton of hype all these years like this amp, that barely do what they're supposed to. :-/
rtkota5point9 Most "should" be rated at 14.4V and 1% THD or less (new amps). Many of the OS amps from the 90's were rated at 12V and 0.05% or so THD. This is one reason why some do so much better at 14'ish volts and 1% THD or clipping.
WOW im really surprised the KICKER.CX 1200.1 did over 1500w at 1ohm and the CX is the entry level amp i have two of those KICKER CXs i guess they were worth grabbing (✌🏼💪🏼🔈💪🏼🔉💪🏼🔊)
I don't know why you are saying that because you don't have enough power for the amplifier so this is not correct just upgrade your power first and then rerun those tests
I have a kicker zxs 1000.1 at 1 ohm and 2. 12" mofos and they pound the ish out of my e46 , would love to see it dyno tested to Kno what it actually does
The 2002 kx400.1 model was 1st kx amp i ever owned. And it made my 2 12 kicker comp 2002 model 150 rms each come to life and mind u i had a few different amps b4 hand. For 400 watts EVERY 1 thought i had gotten 2 15s. Nope just spent 420 at best buy.
Whats terrible is this amp cost about $600. This is the reason these dyno's are so important. People work hard for there $$$ go to the top of the line (which kicker is one) and this is what you get. You are almost better off buying 2 audiopipe 1500's $120-150ea strapping them to a safe 2ohm and have $300 to spare.
@@trucavalier I know this was years ago but you guys don't get it.... He tested the amp on 13 volts... 99% of amps are rated at 14.4 and 99% of cars charge around 14.4(engine running). Theres your 1200 watts plus some, more like 1500.
This amp is a beast I had it on 4 15’s once banged the shit outta my tahoe you need better electrical and more power I swear the more power you give it the louder it’ll get. Still mad to this day I got rid of that amp .
I have a kicker kx600.1 and would like to know what it does would it do half of that this amp is doing and my kicker kx600.1 is not 1 ohm stable ive looked it up but have seen people run the 600.1 at 1 ohm and nothing bad happened
Ann Treiber Keep in mind, the number one cause that Ive seen of this particular amplifier failing was from low voltage, not low impedence. My shop was a Kicker Dealer since back when they were still called Stillwater Designs and I saw these come into the shop blown all the time. Probably more than any other amplifier we sold EVER. And it was almost always either from likely clipping the shit out of it and/or poor electrical. Not saying you have poor electrical at all, just saying I have also seen these run at .5 and be ok, and on the other hand wired properly at 1+ohm and blow up.
What u think it puts out at .5 ohm I have a 15 that for a quad coil and is either 4 ohm 2 ohm or .5 ohm I'm trying to find a food amp to push it at 2000 watts ,
%90 of system installed are 2 & 4 ohms no need to test anything else most just wish they had 1 or a half ohm they normally just lie and say that do but great video
D Carden I think you're very wrong about that honestly. I think most people I know of are running 1-ohm or less. For a fact. Some running .25 even. It's extremely common.
The Amp Lab I is but you mainstream company installers with more then just one location are installing at 3 &4 ohms. If you really understand ohms law and enforce it with the other law most audio fail to mention you don't need to go less and it's will sound great high end movie theater great. Bass is easy to obtain. And cheap clarity without destruction is difficult and expensive that's where winners are made.
D Carden 3 ohm is very very rare. We hardly ever wire at 4-ohm. doesn't make a whole lot of sense if you primarily sell amplifiers that produce their maximum power at 1 or 2 ohm to wire it to 4. You're wasting power at that point. Not sure exactly your point in referencing ohms law either. I understand ohms law, but not sure the point you're trying to get across with it. ?? Now I understand that THD is generally less at higher impedance, but to say that "most" shops are running higher impedance on low impedance stable amplifiers just isn't true.
The Amp Lab I'm.simple saying most installer have no idea what it is I use to have a video on my old channel where I went to best buy installers and car toys installer. With a deal or beat rather if they New ohms law I would give them $100 out of 12stores total only one guy knew and he was just a random guy getting a back up cam installed.that's what I'm saying and I have have seen company paper saying that all car audio should be installed at 2 or 4ohms for reliability and durability purposes.
Your loosing power and your most likely not even putting 13.1 to the amp ..use 0 gauge wire and try to put like a true 14.8 to the amp .They will make the watts you expect at that power
don't mislead people don't he test at charging levels kicker doesn't rate there amps at 12.6 they rate it at 13.8 and a good charging system puts out 14 to 14.7 at full tilt I can't stand seeing videos like becuase it's very misleading to those that don't know what's up
Robert Woodard Truth is most peoples electrical systems aren't up to par and their voltage will drop. So this test is actually more accurate to real world results, not perfect results. And on that note, this is with a purely resistive load. A subwoofer is a reactive load and impedence will rise as it plays, so power will drop with that as well. So no, the test is not perfect, but the truth is you'll never get full rated power from an amplifier in a real world application, ever.
The Amp Lab true to a certain degree, but people like to know what they do at 14.4 and to say they will never get full power ever is another misconception becuase there is ways to control and minimize box gain but at the same time it's also not good ton assume people's electrical is not up to par becuase mine is. and nit trying to be a a hole just saying becuase 860 plus watts at 12.6 will be Closer to 1300 at 14.4 maybe but we wouldn't know cuz u didn't test if at that voltage what I'm getting is say for instance I have a rockford 2500bdcp amp and birthsheets of those amps plus an official amp dyno Steve mede confirmed those 3k+ rms figures. now if I got two 1500 rms subs dual 4 ohm and ne 3k at the subs meaning AFTER box gain than that extra 300-400 watts that the amp has drops due to box at 20-30% power loss (just an example) would leave me roughly with 2900-3 power at the subs after ohms rise to 2 to 2.5 ohms. So Testing these amps at 14.4 or 13.8 or 14 gives me a pretty good idea of what I'm working as far as caculating figures. to be truly acurate of what power u are putting out the amp need to be clamp tested In the vehicle to get TRUE output.
Robert Woodard. I agree this video is a bit misleading at the beginning I thought I was going to need a new amp now I realize I just need to upgrade my charging system
sissymarylen15741a right, that is and was a monster in its day. Now you can simply get more watts for less money. But that amp does way more than rated power, I still have one for that very reason. Bad dyno!!!!
Appreciate the try but these are not very accurate test in less you run your system with under par electrical!!! Certified at 12 volts!!! And your disappointed!!! Should be disappointed in your equipment!!!
D Carden at 14 volts it will do more power I had one and it was just as loud as my buddies rockford 1500 and kicker is more reliable then fosgate my buddies amp started clipping after six months turned it down still clipping he bought an American bass vfl 120.1 loves it better then the rockford
Apocalypse 47 on 12 volt I have have hifonics mt Olympics for about 3 year no problem using it for my low range bass I'm my other vehicle I have one hifonics Zeus at 1ohms and it does the job with one Pioneer pro series 12. I have this series amp but I think its 4 or 5 channels so I was curious about it's real performance

Failed Dyno testing. Voltage too low!!!!!!!!
This amp made its wattage way under 14 volts! That's good in my book!
Great vid keep them coming!!!
Did rated in dynamic with only 13 volts. It would definitely hit rated power on 14.4 volts.
Dyno test the 2013 model Kicker Kx 1600.1..I wanna See how much it really Doe's at all ohm's..
Need to have good voltage, it will make a huge impact on performance. If it's too low it won't preform well like this test. These amps are powerful
I thought you failed the test the voltage is very low. Thats why it berely passed bro

need more amp dyno test!! Amp Lab where are you at???
How much current pull @1ohm load?
I have a 2003 model tried and true works great still
I don't know why you are saying that because you don't have enough power for the amplifier so this is not correct just upgrade your power first and then rerun those tests

Pioneer 9601. $160 on ebay all day. Also The Dual DA6001 does 1400 watts RMS for $89. JUST BOUGHT IT AND ITS HEAVY AS HELL!

That's funny cause my kx1200.1 hit 1848 watts tested at 14.4 volts.

Did you build the amp lab rtkota5point9
Yes, I built the dummy load setup.

14.4 v I’m getting 1100 watts I very happy getting more then the skar 1500 watts could only get 994 from the skar
Kicker kx 1200.1 can handle .5 ohm all day with no problems I use on strapping mode @ 1 ohm
I have videos man but my voltage it's very stable not less than 14.2
With low voltage you can burned any amplifier
I think yor 4000 autotek it's better
