Bought one of these at a pawn shop many years ago, abused the hell out of it, eventually blew it up sent it to Kicker for "board swap" and they sent me the KX1200.1 new since they stopped supporting this model. It was definitely a beast of an amp in its day. Saw a lot of loud cars with these and CV strokers in the late 90's. Thanks as always for the nostalgia, D.
I hate to say it, but the KX series were nothing in comparison to these amps. I owned both. Don't get me wrong, the early KX series some of the best Korean made amps I've come across in terms of their build quality; but they just didn't sound very good. The ZR series was hand built in Stillwater with Mil-Spec components. It's plain to see with the numbers this 22 year old amp is turning out.
300 club Sure it will sound similar, but if you were to put those same two amplifiers on the amp dyno, you'd see the biggest difference when he does the "uncertified tests". Those tests give you a better understanding of what an amplifier will sound like in real life scenarios, and not just when it's playing test tones. Music has many "transients", i.e. it gets extremely loud one minute, & very quiet the next. An amplifier that can easily replicate those bursts in power is always going to be the better amplifier. Here our tester clearly states that his equipment doesn't have the capability to show the maximum that this amplifier is capable of. I happen to agree with him. These amps were beasts. I'll state again, I'm not knocking the build quality of the early KX amps. They were fine amps. I used one for several years. They just didn't have the same SQ as the ZRs.
We ran 12 of these ZR1000's in our KCG Astro van for the 1999 World Finals on 6 Kicker L7 10's hit 171.3. These amps we're beasts!!! We had 12 Fire Truck Batteries set up to supply the rack and could kill them in 2 hits!!! The current consumption was insane!!! Love Kicker!!!
Just hooked one up 3 months ago that I bought off ebay to make sure it was working. It replaced a PPI pc2350. It pushed two jl18w6's as well as the PPI which surprised me. It pulled a ton of current which is the mo of the zr series but awesome amps in all other respects. Numbers aren't everything which Big D has been preaching for years. Ive had all the kicker zr models even the xs100 and the dx350 and the old kicker impusle amps as well I love kicker old stuff compared to what they make today

I used to work for kicker back in the day, and I built these behemoth mother truckers. I can tell you this much, these are some crazy tuff amps, And they're always gonna go over what's rated. That's on purpose. They wanted to have the most powerful amplifiers on the market.

Great video as always Big D. I had 2 of the Kicker ZR600 and they were amazing amps. I wish I still had them. I've seen a couple of the ZR's popup on Craigslist but none of them have the end caps! Those things always got lost and they’re near impossible to find these days.

I would have, had i gotten what i wanted for it. Paid 400 dollars for it before shipping about 5 years ago. Tested it, then installed in a friends car for a night, been sitting since. 400 is what i ask then w/e shipping would be. Otherwise it will sit in my closet till who knows lol.
Heard this amp back in the day on a pair of round solobaric 15s of the same generation that set up was insane! Nasty amp! If I was you if that's your amp never sell it that's a keeper.
Love to see you do one on the KX1200.1 (the '02 one not the new crap) or even the SX1250.1 which was the same board but had the digital eq on it those amps were so awesome

Picked up a ZR 120 a few weeks back... haven't had a chance to put any power to it yet.. wish i could put it on the dyno, to see what kinda numbers its puttin up

That amp is gorgeous inside love it. I am guessing this was filmed before you had the cap & battery bank setup? Like the others I was a bit confused by the 4 & 2 ohm ratings thanks for clarifying the difference between the XS & ZRs I totally forot there was a separate high current model.

It's a 91 and he really wants a 15 we r gonna run a soundqubed 2200 but I was telling him space is an issue I'm thinking 4 soundqubed 8s would be better and I can make a custom ported box and it should be just as loud if not louder what do you think man?
yeah the 1100a2 put the zr1000 to shame OLD SCHOOL RF FTW!! I ran an 1100a2 for years at 1 ohm mono with good electrical and never had any issues...except for heat!!!

Good ole Class A/B battery killa'...😁😁. Man I remember the first time I hooked my Autotek 7300BTS on a pair of Rockford Audiophile 12s with my Coustic XM3e. It sounded so good that I didn't think to turn the car on while I was playing DJ Magic Mike. After that one song played I was like,"Oh sh*t, I better crank the car!" It didn't happen. 😆😆😔😔 The old class A/Bs are power hungry but the good ones are good ear candy. I still have it and the crossover. Had a 7600BTS but my buddy killed it. Even though I sold it to him...it broke my heart when he told me it stopped working. 😢😭😳😵

I had the Zr360 they did 545.? mono. 2 of them on 2 solo 15", in around 98, when ever they first came out . I hot them soon as I could. right after they came out! I loved those amps. I wanted a 1000 so bad back then. either that or two ZR600! or better yet two ZR 1000's !!!
The 1kHz dynamic test i was referring to. This is the IHF-202 test though and has been used for many years to show dynamic headroom of amplifiers. I prefer the 40Hz dynamic test as it gives a better idea of dynamic bass response

I’m glad I went with the RF 1100a2 instead of this amp! Been running it daily since new.
At 12 volts, they may be closer in output, but at 13 or higher, yeah, the RF would stomp the ZR1k

Why test at 15 Vdc? My car/truck would never push 15Vdc. How would the test be affected by 13 volts?
