I love the alien designs in this film
I never really paid attention before, but I'm feeling Father Cornelius' wardrobe (especially his hooded coat). That is some top tier design. I remember watching the behind the scenes of this film and how Luc Besson was saying that every person (including the extras) had their own wardrobe designed specifically for them as an individual. Helped give life and variation to the futuristic world.
Luc besson once again enjoyed Oldmans wit, humour and entertainment. Having directed Leon Aka The Professional three years before 1997 same soundtrack composer as well Eric Serra

1y later but an answer is still an answer. To perform a space warp, there must be empty space in the between. As the ship and everything inside maintains the same mass, the only parameter that changes is the acceleration. The mondoshawan ship positioning was already too close to the planet, so a warping attempt would have resulting in the ship crushing against the planet. Another explanation is related to the ship integrity. Since most high-precision systems require the initial mass to be maintained over time, a small failure or damage in the systems would have triggered safety locks to prevent warping, so the mondoshawan ship was doomed the moment the first shot was received.

@@returntosenderfenderbender5415 No they killed him - I think the assistant said that in the beginning. Plus they don't show him "waking up" so it's implied he's dead
@@cartergirl3of3 The assistant said that because he had no idea what they were or what they did to him. He was scared. He just assumed he was dead because they hit the floor.
@@returntosenderfenderbender5415 But the priest tried to poison him, which implies the Mondoshawans instructed him or his predecessors to guard the secret by any means necessary. I think they killed the professor and didn't bother with the assistant because they knew that no one would believe him, he was a young nobody, not an old and probably famous scholar.
@@Pucukax We have no idea it's poison, he could have well tried to put them asleep and then dragging them away.
The architect wasn't killed, just rendered uncounscious with, at most, a lost of most recent memories.
They obviously cherrish life and the reason they exist is to protect life. They don't kill, they don't have weapons either, I assume.

This is probably why the Mondoshawan sapient race has not returned yet. The evil presence on Earth keeps blocking them from coming to save this Plan-ET and the benevolent human presence here.

See?? Pronounced MondoCHEEwan multiple times, not MondoSHAWwen. No clue why they spelled it as Mondoshawan when it would be a translation to English anyway, but it's clearly not pronounced as written either way and I don't understand how people keep saying it wrong. The closest you get is the President's mumbling, but part of his character is to babble and speak too quickly for comfort and even he at best said MondonSHEEwan
It was spelled that way in the original script and the subtitles. My guess is that it changed during filming and no one corrected it for the subtitles.
In universe, note that Vito Cornelius (a respected expert) uses this pronunciation and everyone else follows that. Perhaps in-universe it was written down as one thing but pronounced correctly when it finally became relevant.
