I know! Her saying that it was hard to stop making the movie, since she'd been shooting for 7 months when she was 19 was so touching. It was like hearing that the folks who worked on Lord of The Rings had a very bittersweet departure as well. You spend so much time on these projects and give so much of yourself to them and then they have to end at some point. It must be heartbreaking.
One of the things I really loved about Milla's portrayal of Leeloo is how convincing she was with the language. She spoke that fake "divine language" like it actually was her native tongue. That totally sold her for me. Such a great performance; I'd compare it to Heath Ledger's Joker.
It also helps that nobody of the Cast knew how her character would talk because Luc would not let the actors know. So in the scenes when we see everyone reacting to Leeloo talking in the old language, the visible confusion and amazement on the faces of Bruce & co is 100% genuine. :)

The fact that her outfit for the interview kinda homages the rubber orange and white t-shirt outfit her character wears for the majority of the movie, very cool. They made the set themed too! 🧡
Milla was an absolute treasure in The Fifth Element, but every character was absolutely perfectly cast, and there are so many little genius moments in the film. It's just about as close to cinematic perfection as you can get.
That couches neutrality and the contrast with the most beautiful floral design is so classic and edgy. It just sets the frame for such a calm setting. I live for these type of art. 💝
I adore Milla and Lee Loo, and always will. And The Fifth Element is a forever fav. This amazing retrospective by Milla is such a tremendous joy to watch. I loved learning about her family and her childhood, how she connected with Luc, how she won the role, and all of her sharing about the movie and its impacts on her and others. Positively priceless. 😊❤️😊
It's a masterpiece, I don't like opera, but even the opera in this movie is amazing, and they couldn't have picked better actors, especially Leeloo, she was perfect 😁
After all she has completed, with such a life, her beginnings, she comes off here as being very well grounded, unpretentious and lovely. An impressive person with much to offer and able to maintain it…as well as her outer beauty and physical condition. She’s underrated, I enjoyed this interview…and admired the flower arrangements!!
Error- those "La Femme Nikita" photographs are of Peta Wilson in the spin-off series- Luc Besson had nothing to do with that. The "La Femme Nikita" Milla Jovovich was referencing the FILM of which it was based on, starring Anne Parillaud.
It's true about Leeloo being unique! She manages to pull off being alien, childlike, relatable and capable all at the same time. Not to mention funny as well. Leeloo Dallas multipass!
*THE FILM is a proof that Milla can act perfectly.* Most other films are on way lower level, so if the directors can not provide either direction or material to act upon, it is their fault, not of the actors.
This movie blew me away at the time. The art design and costumes were incredible, the story was like a dream that somehow made sense, and Leeloo was a new kind of amazing. But Ruby Rhod was even _more_ of a mind-blower. Ru Paul and Eddie Izzard were barely a blip at the time.
@@PresidioDelux I mean Chris Tucker was a cis-het comedian playing a flamboyantly androgynous character than helped Americans in particular appreciate LGBTQ performers such as RuPaul and Eddie Izzard.
So supposedly they showed Chris Tucker THE most flamboyant over the TOP outfit he had to wear first. Broke him in, after that everything else was like, “ok that’s cool, sure.”
To this day, my siblings and I (and now our nieces) will randomly blurt out ''Leeloo Dallas Multipass'' especially when pretending to be confused or genuinely confused, no matter where we are. And ppl look at us funny! 🤣 This is probably the movie I have watched more times out of all movies in my life and I never get tired out it! I just love it so much!!
She's totally right: nothing like a character like Leeloo and the movie itself have been seen since. I'm grateful for this video because it gave me some insight that makes the movie even more marvelous. Absolute classic.
I don't really like sci-fi, but if The Fifth Element is on the tube, I will always watch it til the end. The pacing is spot on, and the interplay of several storylines is deftly done. Bruce Willis is at his best, but all the supporting actors get in on the over-the-top mood and the film really sings. It's "super green"
When 5th Element came out, I managed a video store. To say that I watched a lot of movies would be a great understatement! For me, 5th Element ranks as one of the best movies made. Milla portrayed Leeloo indelibly and uniquely--a character like no other. A friend and I discussed 5th Element a few weeks ago--finding that we both felt it had a huge impact on us.
I always wondered what Leelou was saying when she spoke her language. Especially, since it was an actual made up language that the actress has to learn
I'm 29 and I remembered watching Fifth Element as a kid and every single time I saw it was playing on tnt, I would stop whatever I was doing and watch it....and to this day, I still love watching it. Milla is one of my top 5 female actresses and she is amazing!! ❤❤❤
Fifth Element is my go to movie when I don't know what I want to watch and just want to relax and decompress. Many long hot baths have been taken while watching this movie. Big bada boom. The first time I saw Milla, she was featured in a teen magazine. The stylist mentioned that Milla insisted on having waves instead of curls. Hair wavers are very much back in fashion. It's proof on how fashion is so cyclical. I've been a fan of hers ever since. She's a multilingual model, actress/action star, singer/songwriter/musician....modern Renaissance woman.
Just a stunning and remarkable woman. Her family seem so blessed! An immortal character in one of the most visually stunning films. I’ll remember the phrase “multi-pass” as long as I live.
I like how she was blown away by being asked to dance like she doesn't know how her body works, when that's literally just me dancing. Hey guys, if you need a Leo Dallas Multipass for The Sixth Element just lemme know.
She's such a class act and was always a better actor than her characters asked for. I would love to see her doing more art, period and drama films. And I watched the Fifth Element every time it was on cable TV, like 20 times already. It is a great movie. Milla was my Barbarella.
Love this movie and big Milla fan, but ehhh on the acting. She's had roles that demanded more acting skill and it wasn't great. The Messenger being a good example, Milla and Luc again, but ehhh. Now her music, that is underappreciated.
This film and her as a character was so wonderfully life changing. Definitely is a fashion reference movie for me. Still waiting for Chanel’s automatic eye make up glasses
Never would I click on a Vogue video. "Fashion" media has no interest to me, much like most mainstream media. But... Milla holds a special place in my heart, especially as Leeloo Dallas. I'll click anything with her name in the title. Great backstory. Thank you for this gem.
@@ckoerner thank you, but it isn't a disclaimer. The comment is actually context for how much this movie (and her role) meant to me. I just re-watched it recently and it's a wholly unique movie that can never be replicated. the art, style music and action all melded into a great movie and Bruce Willis added his charm and wit with Milla adding the innocence. It's still so popular in the US!
@@9melissal I was expecting her to make a comparison, bc the movie was *huge* in Europe. now it's def considered a classic, everywhere
I saw the trailer as an 11 year old and my parents took me....ive loved it the rest of my life!!!
And it's become a massive pop culture icon.
" nerds " ? 🙄 when people will stop the calling names ?
The fact that her outfit for the interview kinda homages the rubber orange and white t-shirt outfit her character wears for the majority of the movie, very cool. They made the set themed too! 🧡
It was one of the movies i watched over and over and over. So dang incredible. It didn't hurt that Bruce was playing opposite her either.
"Big bada-boom"
"Multi-pass"
Classic simplicity in an incredibly complex character. Brilliant acting skills.
Never forgot " multipass" stuck with me through out the years. Great fun movie, it will become a classic.
"autowash"
Moonlit-Pass
" AHKTO GAMMAT"
Milla was an absolute treasure in The Fifth Element, but every character was absolutely perfectly cast, and there are so many little genius moments in the film. It's just about as close to cinematic perfection as you can get.
So many of us feel the same way, Chris Tucker and Willis were on their game, as well as Ian Holm and Gary Oldman. Cast of killers.
One of those movies you can re-watch time and time again and never get sick of it. One of my faves for sure.
“The Fifth Element” was / is an outstanding movie.
And Leloo is an unforgettable character.
Thank you.
After 27 years now. You have never seen a similar character. We are flooding of super heroes. The super heroes are all the same.
One of the Iconic Sci-Fi movies/charaters in the history of the entire genre. Thank you.
So true!
That couches neutrality and the contrast with the most beautiful floral design is so classic and edgy. It just sets the frame for such a calm setting. I live for these type of art. 💝
Plus the floral design is tied directly to Leeloo, and that's incredible too!
She was absolutely incredible as Leeloo!!! Multipass!
I could listen to her say that all day long... Philo, I want your Multipass
Big Bada Boom
Still use it lol
There's an actual device that remembers your logins and passwords that's called "Mooltipass".
I say this occasionally out of nowhere "Multipass!" haha
I adore Milla and Lee Loo, and always will. And The Fifth Element is a forever fav. This amazing retrospective by Milla is such a tremendous joy to watch. I loved learning about her family and her childhood, how she connected with Luc, how she won the role, and all of her sharing about the movie and its impacts on her and others. Positively priceless. 😊❤️😊
One of my all time favourite movies. So brilliantly done. Mila is a stunner
Same, such an iconic movie, all around.

My husband's fav, too!
I love her observation about how the role showed her who she wanted to be in life. Wonderfully honest and kind.
She has aged so beautifully and gracefully! Definitely one of the coolest and most baddass actresses of our generation
"Beautifully and gracefully, eh?" Like In a chain-smoking, raspy-voiced, collagen-desert kinda way? She's 46 and looks about 55.
@@happydogg312 Smokin's bad, m'kay.
She's a legend, but...she looking kind of rough nowadays.
@@richarddukard8989 She looks completely fine. Aging is actually a thing, who knew?

one of the greatest sci-fi of all time, and without you it might not have been as special, thank you Milla
She is literally a never ending costume for holloween & cosplay events.
It's like the princess Leia costume...a staple in beauty
Yes, she is an icon
Hey you look familiar
Not literally.
Halloween.
I introduced my kids to The Fifth Element just last month. They absolutely loved it. Like The Princess Bride, it's timeless.
think it's a rare person (actor) who can embody and realize the role of Leeloo like Milla did (and she did it at 19). Congratulations to her.
I do not know who created Lee Loos language but Mila spoke it like it was her native tounge. Such a memorable performance.
love princess bride. classic.
in some moments this film isn't really for the kids...
@@crazymelomanka My kids are 17 and 14. They can handle it.
It's a masterpiece, I don't like opera, but even the opera in this movie is amazing, and they couldn't have picked better actors, especially Leeloo, she was perfect 😁
She's still absolutely stunning and a lovely, lovely person.
We take a moment and appreciate the floral design by Brittany Asch of BRRCH! Such a marvelous floral presentation!
Thank you for mentioning her, I can't wait to scroll through her insta, these arrangements are stunning 😳
Its very Leeloo 👏👏👏
Amaziiiinggggg
They literally look like a million buck!! And they seem to some how embody Leeloo in a flower. Perfect
That's why they looked so unfamiliar, thank you!
Yeah, that was kinda embarrassing.
Good point and nice catch.
yes! I was like what is that
Leeloo and The Gentleman Who Fell are my favourite memories of you, Milla. Thank you for this very special interview. 💓
It's true about Leeloo being unique! She manages to pull off being alien, childlike, relatable and capable all at the same time. Not to mention funny as well.
Leeloo Dallas multipass!
Leeloo is best girl.
_She knows it's a _*_Multipass!_*
Oh my gosh my GF and me say those lines all the time. 😂❤
Gotta love how one of her daughters even recreated that shot to tease her mom! 😆
*THE FILM is a proof that Milla can act perfectly.*
Most other films are on way lower level, so if the directors can not provide either direction or material to act upon, it is their fault, not of the actors.
My favourite film of all time. Can’t believe she was 19. Such an intelligent performance.
I know
Same. That movie is the best, brings me so much happiness
I had no idea she was that young in the film. She came off way older. 🤭
Well, if she was born in 1975 and the movie came out in 1997 then she wouldn't be 19 unless the movie was filmed 1994. Maybe it was, I don't know.
this got me weeping. this movie is everything. the fashion, the cast. id love a fifth element fashion book if they dropped one
It's so sweet to see her light up when talking about the movie. She really seems to remember and cherish the experience.
Well she did run off with the director...so.
I remember seeing The Fifth Element when it came out in theaters and it was instantly one of my favorite movies of all time....it has everything.
same, saw it 4 times XD
I think it's a rare person (actor) who can embody and realize the role of Leeloo like Milla did (and she did it at 19). Congratulations to her.
She couldn’t have done it at 26.
@@CorePathwayI'd be less creepy if she wasn't a barely legal teen tho lol
@@KylePitre No it wouldn’t. Nothing creepy about a hot adult doing hot things. If you don’t like it don’t watch it.
@@SunlightGwynexactly. the hypocrisy of people just following the "trend."
I agree
This movie blew me away at the time. The art design and costumes were incredible, the story was like a dream that somehow made sense, and Leeloo was a new kind of amazing. But Ruby Rhod was even _more_ of a mind-blower. Ru Paul and Eddie Izzard were barely a blip at the time.
Eddie Izzard was BIG in the UK waaay before the Fifth Element man.
@@wayn3h There are a lot of people who are big in the UK who are virtually unknown everywhere else.
You mean Chris Tucker. Not RuPaul.
"Sir, can you please put your hands in the yellow circles?"
..."SMOKE YOOOUUUUU!!!"
"Wrong answer..." 🤣😆
My one dog loves chicken so we always say it like Leeloo does.😂 We also gave her the middle name of “multipass”
Back when a strong female lead was a million times better than the garbage we are stuck with today.
I had a crush on her in in that movie. One of my favorite parts was the arrival of the famous guy with the microphone strutting down the hallway.
I do not know who created Lee Loos language but Mila spoke it like it was her native tounge. Such a memorable performance.
Luc Besson created it of 400 words & him & Milla practiced it as well as wrote letters to each other in the language.
Literally at 8:36 she says that he (Luc Besson) wrote this language.
I always wondered what Leelou was saying when she spoke her language. Especially, since it was an actual made up language that the actress has to learn
The director did

I'm 29 and I remembered watching Fifth Element as a kid and every single time I saw it was playing on tnt, I would stop whatever I was doing and watch it....and to this day, I still love watching it. Milla is one of my top 5 female actresses and she is amazing!! ❤❤❤
Yeah 👍
I stop and watch it every time I find it on.
A sci-fi fantasy film, that was ahead of it's time, and like all Luc Besson films - truly unique. What a film, She nailed her character!
It seemed like they tried to make the character a cross between a superhero and a female " messiah " character.
I see the same comments talking about the matrix and Starship troopers. Lmao
Never wrote such things, but if your talking about the phrase, yeah quite common 😅
Milla Jovovich is surrounded by the bird of the paradise- An icon of beauty, love and strength.
Truly an iconic character. 20, 30 years later, there are not many characters that still have that much of an impact of fashion and make a statement.
Great corollary! Never connected Milla to Barbarella, but yeah!
@@snek9353 I thought she was amazing in the Messenger, it's one of my favorite movies!

Same!
No need for the disclaimer. Enjoy what you like, no reservations!
@@ckoerner they're just too cool and quirky and different to enjoy fashion
@@ckoerner thank you, but it isn't a disclaimer. The comment is actually context for how much this movie (and her role) meant to me. A regular consumer of this content (whom I didn't disparage in any way) would have reason to click on the video regardless if Milla and the movie meant anything to them or not. @@aidanrts I'll own the quirky part. However, I tend to let others decide if they think I'm cool. Thanks for weighing in. Also, I love fashion, just not the media coverage around it typically. To each their own...

Since the early 2000’s my dad has always put The Fifth Element & Water World on repeat all day long. They were playing on our living room tv at all hours of the day. 😄 When I visit today, he’s still playing those two movies. I’m 32 now and I do have an appreciation for these classics. Fifth Element is a movie I've seen many, many times.
For a friend and I, it's an annual tradition. Love the movie.
It never ceases to amaze me how all these different professions brought their A-game to the table to create this amazing movie that's been imitated so many times but still reigns supreme.
Mila Jovovich absolutely slayed the part - The Fifth Element is one of my favorite films of all time. Thanks for doing such a beautiful job on this retrospective. (I still have the DVD)
I hope she realizes that the character of Leeloo is what makes the film a remote drop. Incredibly unique, and well played.

I just watched The Fifth Element yesterday. Between the autowash, smashing through the roof of a cab, the concert at flotsam, Ruby Rod screaming. The movie was just like the doctor explaining about the dna….perfect.
Indeed! Recently bought a Sony OLED and got the 4k disc for this - watched it about a week ago and it really is masterful. I've been buying 4k discs of old flicks like crazy, and it's amazing how many movies I used to love are pretty "meh" today... but not The Fifth Element. Still frickin' amazing.
