I love the little tips you give during your videos.
I'm so glad! Thank you for watching!
I may get some funny looks at the store buying the stockings, but I will give this a try on my next wood project...
Or you can order them on Amazon with no judgment haha!
Hi Beth, great video and a great tip with the your bootie😁😁A couple of tips for you. When closing a can of varnish exhale into the can right before sealing. The carbon dioxide from your breath will get rid of the oxygen in the can and help preserve the varnish. I also warm the varnish before applying. This will thin the varnish temporarily to help eliminate the little bubbles. Have an awesome day . Keep those great videos
Both those products are very good at what they do. Really good tip about using shellac to seal the surface of your piece before putting on a topcoat. And that shellac is very easy to work with. Nice job.
Totally agree! I learned about the dewaxed shellac after having issues with fish eye. Thanks for watching!
Whoa, looks great!
Thank you! These two pieces took awhile to refinish but I’m really happy with their final looks.
Absolutely gorgeous. I love general finish products
Thank you! They are my go to for my stains and topcoats.
I’ve never heard of the Zinsser seal coat prior to using a top coat. Sounds like an amazing product along with the GF. Also, I didn’t know about not leaving the lid off your topcoat. Does this go for all topcoats including Waterbased? Such a great video. Thank you for sharing.
I wasn’t aware of Zinsser SealCoat until I started working with live edge wood and upping my woodworking game. I’ve had numerous pieces of furniture in the past that either leak oils AFTER I’ve applied a topcoat or the fish eye issue. It started to google how to fix both those problems and I found the answer on a woodworking forum. It’s saved my pieces of furniture so many times. Miracle product for me. I personally have more issues with my oil based products either developing a skin on top or start to dry out prematurely in the can. I was advised to open the lid, pour whatever product I want to use out as fast as possible and reseal it quickly. It’s the oil vapors being expose to oxygen. Oil-based varnishes and paints 'dry' by two means, the first being evaporation of the solvent (the drying phase) and the second by reacting with oxygen in the air (the curing phase). What can happen is that the poly can begin to cure from exposure to oxygen, either because there was enough air within the tin above the poly or because the seal formed by the lid wasn't perfect so a very slow trickle of air could make its way into the tin, something that occurs fairly frequently. I also bought a can of Argon to spray into the can before I seal it. That preserves my poly from spoiling.
@@madelinejeanantiquesrestor9074 thank you for explaining all this❤️
Did you use the seal coat over gel stain or water-based stain? Thanks!
@@rosemaryflee I used it over oil based stain.
Looks great. Did you sand in between both top coats?
I did lightly feather sand after the Seal Coat and before the first coat of poly.
What sheen polyacrylic water based top coat would you recommend for dining table
That depends on what look you desire. Then make gloss, satin and matte/flat.
How do you scuff between top coats?
I did another video on how to properly sand in-between coats. It gives a really good in depth instruction on how to do it.
@@madelinejeanantiquesrestor9074 I’ll have to search around more. I think I’m watching your videos about 100x each at this rate lol…I even learned how to deliver
