@@TheWaitersAcademy Hi, so far so good…the handheld POS system is complicated but workable. I went in on my day off for an hour studying the menu and the POS system together, boss lady liked that I was trying. On my fourth day I had a table of 16 so I’m glad I put in that time which helped time on the POS. I will be working again on Friday for day 8. At home I am visualizing myself going through the steps in my head so I get that down and also I’m practicing with a tray and water bottles and my own glasses so I learned the balance of the tray. Boss lady said they don’t use trays a lot mostly to bus tables or carry drinks mostly. I don’t like the fact there is a lot of food that looks alike especially the wings. I guess that will be some thing I have to get to know. I talked to the chef who is of the Mexican descent and he said that his favorite thing to cook is French cuisine 😆. It really a pleasure to me to meet this video as it left 3 to 4 days to start a new job as waitress which I have never done before.all I have to say is thanks very much for the clear guides and explanations. I have only one problems which o don't know how to controls its,am smart, fast learner, quick to read body language of different people in respect of theirs background but the problems I have is that,I can't allow someone to takes advantage over me for a second not to respond to the individual even if it's my boss.
Hi Kamara, congrats on the new job. The problem you talk about is very common among young people! I had it myself as a young man. I guess, you have to burn yourself a few time to learn but the sooner you learn to control your emotions and your anger, the better! Good luck
I have this problem at times, too. I found that if I just slowly deep breathe while making the effort to concentrate on what they are saying instead of what I'm going to respond to what I think they're going to say, things work out more smoothly for me. Also, I've learned(the hard way) that if I'm upset about something, I deal with it as professionally as I can in the moment. And then, if I'm still up set after my shift, I go home and talk it over w someone I can trust. I ask them how they would feel if they were in that situation. It helps me to get out of my mind and emotions to hear from someone who's not emotionally involved in the issue, how they perceive it. Then, I'll either wait until the next day, or even later that day, and I'll call or go see my boss/manager/coworker, whoever is the appropriate person, and calmly bring up the situation and explain to them that i was upset and why ,and ask how they feel things could be remedied or the issue avoided in the future. I'm a Scorpio. So I used to just lash back at people when I was angry, only to realize later that I made the whole situation worse bc of my mouth and attitude. By calming down and then going back and talking the matter out, it helps to prevent that air of agitation between you and whoever else who was involved. Also, owners and management look favorably upon an employee acting in a professional and calm manner such as this. Like he stayed in his video, emotions run high in the restaurant business. Trying to stay calm and not get sidetracked by petty stuff is very important. It is hard as heck sometimes 😂But, it is possible! I hope this helps someone 😊

Thanks Prince. Yes it is true! There are countries where the competition is tough and the more knowledge you have the better chance you have to get a job! But in general the competition for the really top jobs in every country is really hard and if someone wants to get a top job he/she has to get prepared. It doesn't work another way! You can create your profile on the Waiters Network . Maybe I can help you in the future land a great job abroad! :) Best of luck!
Thank you for your videos! I just landed a new job at a Chinese restaurant. I have very little server experience serving. I mostly have kitchen experience. I took home the menu, but it doesn't tell me whats in the items except for a few of them.
Am actually a waitress at cafe express in Uganda but I've not been giving a good service I think,, because of you, am sure our clients are gonna increase cuz of our services,,am actually gonna refer my fellows to this page
I’m a very shy person and when I was first started looking for my first ever job, this industry wasn’t among my possible options you know? In fact I was looking for jobs that kept me from having to socialize too much with other people (like office jobs, jobs online, etc) I ended up having my first job as a waitress and the first 7 months I can say I hated the job, I felt I wasn’t made for it, I couldn’t even explain our daily menu to a customer without making errors out of my anxiety. It took my 8-9 months to start building confidence, having constant compliments on my performance also helped a lot, but my point is in my case I had to be almost forced into it to overcome my anxiety and shyness. But that took me to work for 5 star hotels and I’m still working in this industry, I don’t regret the hospitality industry. ❤
I have started at a big hotel chain, they have not provided any training and just put me straight on the floor. I was down about this as I like to be prepared. I asked other members of staff and none of them have received any training. They teach me the wrong things. It is soooooo stressful. 😭
The fact that you are here right now, watching this video, trying to learn and improve says a lot about you. People like you succeed not only in this job but in life in general. It is stressful and unfair but this is exactly what companies do 90% of the time. It is all about the money... I will share your comment on our other social media platforms to see how many other new Waiters have gone through this. Just learn as much as you can as fast as you can. Understand that this is the very beginning and you are at huge disadvantage but if you push through, you will improve and everything will start changing quickly. Best of luck.
the end its very true, it needs to be respected more for the ones that really do a good job I might get hate for saying this but there are some servers, I have run into who have rude attitudes n just expect a tip for minimal service/not a very good attitude it's the only time when I think a tip shouldn't be forced, but otherwise, it is very much a hard job that does deserve the pay n tips it should be respected more^^
Can you do a video about how stressful the job is and how waiters like to get hammered everyday after their shift? I work in a French resturant on the beach, and the clients are so demanding, the moment I get off I head to a local bar.
One of my oldest video is about the dangers our job brings. I talk about that. Find a better way to release stress. There are countless ways. I should do video about that. Stay safe and take care of yourself...cause no one else will!
@@TheWaitersAcademy hi I’m actually doing alright so far, it’s pretty straight forward and I enjoy it, I just need to work on my customer service voice and what to say when I bring food to tables I feel like I’m too quiet. Thank you!

Good job mate,im from indonesia , working here is like a competition a thousand waiter searcing a job,if we not get a much effort we will lefted 👍
Best of luck!

Shyness has been the biggest challenge for me
This is the perfect job to cure shiness! Keep pushing!
I’m a very shy person and when I was first started looking for my first ever job, this industry wasn’t among my possible options you know? In fact I was looking for jobs that kept me from having to socialize too much with other people (like office jobs, jobs online, etc)
I ended up having my first job as a waitress and the first 7 months I can say I hated the job, I felt I wasn’t made for it, I couldn’t even explain our daily menu to a customer without making errors out of my anxiety.
@@Hosomakio you're an inspiration. I am now starting my career transitioning to hospitality as waiter and this give me hope. Thank you
@@henry_8656 well I’m happy I helped one person ☺️ for any questions or advice you can always comment again, I’ll be happy to help
Now I know how difficult and simple it will thanks again
the end its very true, it needs to be respected more for the ones that really do a good job
I might get hate for saying this but
there are some servers, I have run into who have rude attitudes n just expect a tip for minimal service/not a very good attitude
it's the only time when I think a tip shouldn't be forced, but otherwise,
it is very much a hard job that does deserve the pay n tips
it should be respected more^^
Thanks you! Well said!
Am susan the first day at ibis hotel as waitress I learned alot thank
Great job, Susan! Best of luck with the new job!
I have really bad social anxiety and I’m starting my first job in a bar tomorrow (they sell meals too) and I’m so scared I’ll mess up. Thanks for this

@@TheWaitersAcademy hi I’m actually doing alright so far, it’s pretty straight forward and I enjoy it, I just need to work on my customer service voice and what to say when I bring food to tables I feel like I’m too quiet. Thank you!
