I am half Japanese and worked at a Japanese restaurant during high school. I was the same - I served tables, made drinks and dessert, dishwasher, and kitchen hand. Maybe it's a part of Japanese restaurant culture. I know that in the US, the roles seem to be a lot more segmented - e.g. a hostess and a server would have very different roles. Quite interesting

I feel like that's all just played up for the camera to make foreigners think Japanese workers are extremely dedicated and to not get in trouble with their boss who might see the videos and see them slacking. I don't believe workers care that much about their low-paying jobs that require you to live in a laughably tiny apartment, especially in recent times with the exposure of how toxic the Japanese workplace is.

It is typically 40 hours in total, so they come with long shift and short shift, most restaurants work have irregular shifts. I worked for several restaurants in Japan.
she said 1 to 2 days off suggesting 6 day work week. She basically dreams of work, and wakes to go work. This is all alright if she is making decent money though but yea, i can't imagine this is great for mental health if she isn't saving money. Edit: just checked japans minimum wage. It's £6.33. how is it that a number 3 country in terms of gdp has such a low floor of pay for workers whilst working them to the ground like this? No S^%$ the birth rate is in decline. Who has time and money for that??
Damn 12+hour shifts and she pretty much does a little bit of everything in the restaurant except for cooking - what a hard worker and efficient as well, no time wasted. I hope Yuki gets to achieve her dreams of owning a collaboration cafe. Best of luck to her!

Right after college, I got hired in a corporate office. I got a job waiting tables on the weekend and frequently worked a double shift on Sat and a split shit on Sun (11-8pm). Also, I’d got out a few nights during the week and sometimes on Sat night. (And the work commute was 2+ hours for the corporate job.)
yeah, i work 8 hours with around 1:30 hours for breaks, and i feel exhausted after work... although that might also be because my job involves alot of moving and standing, and the fact that i start at 7 AM.
I'm a waitress , bartender , gaming attendant and receptionist at my work. And what she's doing really inspires me , to thrive and work harder. Not only she does a long hours but she does an absolute perfection at her job. She's a hard worker , has a good attitude and beautiful. One of a kind of role model I look up to.
The wife and I are staying Kadoya Hotel, coincidentally next to this grill. We will be going tomorrow. I've been following your channel for over 5 years now, and our entire trip to Japan has been heavily influenced by all your great guides. Thank you Paolo to you and your wife for making so much of our trip to Japan memorable.
@ctcarino It was fantastic. Went there for lunch. My wife and I got the set, and it was filling. There were only two workers (we may have been the first customers of the day). Beef was premium, and nothing was overly complicated that could take away from the Wagyu center piece. It was the most expensive meal we had in our Japan trip (less than what we'd pay in the States) but well worth the experience.
@@thelifeofbatteries2603 For the most part, the language barrier didn't hinder the experience. It's best to just be polite and point at the item on the menu. Saying thank you or hello is quite universal and appreciated when communication is difficult. :)

A big thank you to her and everyone at the restaurant for allowing us a glimpse into their daily routine. And a big thank you to you Paolo for making this series so that we can see what daily lives in Japan are like.
I'm currently working here in Japan for 4 months with the same job as her, but we are called "company employees (shain)". Not just "waitress". Our workload is very similar and NORMAL here in Japan. It's really hard but I'm glad that we're actually well-compensated here. What I earn here per hour is equivalent to what I earn in PH per day. So yeah, it's worth it, just tiring, very tiring :(

These behind the counter videos are sure to make everyone’s day. Japan has notoriously long working hours, and it’s quite admirable to see people who are always willing to do what it takes to go beyond and overcome challenges along their way.
Well being? Yes job security but she’s working from 9am to 11pm 5-6 days a week. She’s fine with that because she’s Japanese and has that amazing work ethic. Westerners are lazy and wouldn’t last a week in her shoes.

Technically, Japan adopted a 40-hour workweek in the 80s. So either this restaurant is breaking labor laws, or she's getting overtime pay/more time off on other days. I hope it's the latter.

The little things in life matter.

Japanese restaurants typically have very irregular shifts, total working hours for employee is 40 at most(unless doing overtime which is rare), so not different from other jobs.
@@Mwoods2272 It is very much standard that people work 4 hours in some days and 12hours in other days. 99% chances are she is working 40hours of irregular shifts rather than doing 2 hours of overtime everytime. but yeah Paolo deserves it also, still considering his fame...
judging by his house (the videos) he doesn't need it as much
Thank you too!
@@g60force Don't be creepy bro.
I like how japan respects all kinds of job. Your " A day in the life" series is just amazing😀
Hi Paolo, I'm enjoying videos like these. I find it encouraging knowing how people go about their daily lives. Hope you do more of these. 😁👍
Fantastic as always Paolo. Mad respect for Yuki's work ethic and general wonderfulness
I ate here in 2017 on a business trip! I couldn't believe it when you were walking through because it felt so familiar, but I went back and checked the pictures and lo and behold, 5 years later it looks exactly the same! Great food and a friendly experience!
who was the waiter there at that time?

@@hurricaneb6243 So sad that it's year 2022, and schools still teach in the same old ineffective way. Wasting tax dollar and kids' lives.
@@rocketman3770 HAHAHA
You serious?
@@19MCE serious about what? She only started recently as she is 24. Who was before her
I’m fucked up rn but I like watching your videos they’re so interesting even when I’m sober. I like the Japanese lifestyle and just your way of showing and explaining other people lives it’s so intriguing, keep up the great work Paolo! 👍

Awesome episode. I really appreciate her efforts and all they do even in small (non-chain) restaurants.
Wow... waitress, cleaner, hostess, media manager, shopper, accountant ........ what else? Yuki is such a beast
Another great video Paolo! I patterned your "day in the life" style content on a recent video of my Hawaiian friend in Japan. It's my most popular video so far! Thank you for your inspiration!! I also love how you do your graphics and titles! Not to mention the positivity you bring to UA-cam :) Aloha from Yokohama🤙
I watched it!! I can see Paulo’s influences😃
Nice! I just watched your video! Keep up the great work👍
@@miki3316 mahalo for watching! I’m learning so much from Paolo😊
How very interesting. Yuki's day is much more involved than I would have imagined, with different kinds of tasks. I really enjoy these "day in the life" videos.
shes such a hard and dedicated worker. i hope her dreams come true. rooting for her!!
Thank you for supporting me. I wish your happiness. (From Yuki)
Absolute massive respect for hard working people like her...
I love the Japanese work ethic…service, quality, team. My 2004 Toyota Tacoma still makes me smile every time I drive it - lucky to have one actually built in Japan.
Already so excited to see it Paolo! I've always wanted to go to Japan.
Love to see the hustle and seeing so much more being done aside from what you’d typically expect! Great video!
I totally love these day in life videos from Japan
Thanks a lot paulo
Such a hardworking person! Mad respect.
Japanese workers are quite amazing. They are enthusiastic from morning until night
@Ray Mak enough is enough
