I consider Nick to be the biggest wasted opportunity in the Telltale side of The Walking Dead Franchise. Nick had potential to be a better character than Ben but he was a victim of the Season 2 rewrites. He is a great character in the first two episodes, he was flawed but he was still a genuinely good person with some issues. This has been said by a few people but Nick should’ve taken Mike’s role in the story, and he should’ve died at the Russian shoot out in episode 4. It would’ve been a good conclusion to his arc and it would shown that Nick could change.
Nick is the Ben of s2, but at least you had some say in how Ben dies. Nick is just killed off screen and no real growth after. After Pete is gone it's just downhill.
I view Nick as wasted potential. He was a relatively important character up until the end of episode 2. He was practically non exsistant in episode 3 and then died off screen in episode 4 after being shown getting shot in the shoulder while leaving howles. Such a shame as I really enjoyed him and Luke's dynamic.
Part of why he does nothing in ep 3 and 4 is likely due to the fact that you can get him killed in ep 2 which is a terrible consequence of poor planning

The greatest sin a fictional character can make is being annoying. Nick is annoying to most players, so most don't bother to understand him. Same thing happens with Rebecca and Sarah. @@SquidwardQ.Tentacles899 As someone who is neurodivergent, I would like to let you know that we can still be annoying, especially from a storytelling perspective. The only logical explanation to how Nick died in my opinion was accidental infection. So when they’re escaping Howes, if Nick is still alive and didn’t die at the ski lodge, he is chasing after Sarah behind Luke when he gets shot in the shoulder. And in a moment of instinct, he immediately covers the wound with his hand. The very same hand that had just been smearing walker guts over his body. So I believe the walker blood got into his system that way and he decided to try and find the others for Luke and Sarah when he eventually succumbed to the infection. Though I do feel like it was a waste of a character that didn’t get much chance to grow and felt like had to be offed on a whim 😔
The second the Dialog to decides Nick fate was introduced in episode 2 like Alvin's. I was like my god this guy is gonna be legit AFK moving forward is he. Cause there was not point in keeping him alive like Sarah, Alvin, or Bonnie.
Yeah sadly it sucks that even tho these are great games, you KNOW your choices don't matter when it comes to picking who to save between two characters. Because either they will be AFK the rest of the game and make it (Which honestly isn't that bad) or they will be AFK the rest of the game until they just die. I feel like Carly is both the best and worst of this. She's an amazing character who doesn't stay passive after you save her, actively helping the group and doing some great things, but she still suffers from that exact same thing, being killed and having her potential being wasted.
Quick note: the reason Nick is so angered by Pete chastising him for not taking a shot is because he much later had to “take the shot” on his own turning mother. It’s likely Uncle Pete demanded he take the shot even when he didn’t want to, thus it is reasonable Pete making a joke of his cowardice in his childhood also triggers the memory of killing his mom.
