Hey Brian, on that old ZX10 set of gears, what about doing the old racer trick of undercutting the dogs, wout that negative the wear?

Hi Robert...,yes that could be done..,however I am not a fan of undercut gear dogs for a couple of reasons..
1/it weakens them since they are now a kind of "dove tail" shape so they interlock
2/it tends to be pretty expensive to have a machine shop do this service..
The wear on that old ZX10B transmission "IS" present...,but its not so excessive to warrant it unusable (it also always tends to be more prevalent on the Input shaft gear dogs in every transmission I have seen...)
If the selector forks.,drum and detent engagment selectors and their springs are in great shape I would have confidence the transmission would not present any "gear jumping out" issues when in use...
Seeing 'any' wear is always disconcerting and disappointing (but that is always going to be present to varying degrees on any "used" transmission)....,however there are other factors in the whole system (outlined above) to consider as well if there is Any concern..
In any case.....,suitable transmissions can be picked up for reasonable prices readily (and thankfully still available).......,its usually (and naturally) the case though that the older they are.,invariably the more use they will have had and consequently more "wear" as a result..
(Unless you unfortunately happen to pick up a transmission from a "young bike" that was ridden by a savage)...😅

Thanks Brian, my old ZRX11 is heading to PDQ in Slough for a rebuild and 1109 kit! I was thinking about GBoxes. 🤔. Cams for a hot street bike is my big question. I was thinking the GPz 11 cams might be a good compromise if they can be found?

Like with the gearboxes...,those old GPZ's have a bit of age on them so Hard to get those without the lobes being pitted..
Heck its actually pretty rare to get ZZR 1100~1200 cams without the lobes pitted ....especially the intake cam which tends to suffer pitting more than the Exhaust one..
      I'm currently building my '01' ZRX 1200 engine and fitting some ZZR 12 parts..,(pistons..,cams..,ZZR 11d gear box..,base gasket delete...,etc.)
Cams I got from a 30K mile ZZR 12 motor are pitted. (Not Tooo bad and usable......,but still I'd have like em perfect..)
Seems to be par for the course though......,so I'd imagine GPZ ones would suffer likewise..
Pete Aronson (Kwick~ELS) in Arizona sells cams for hot engine builds with a lobe grind to Yoshimura ST-1 cam spec......,also sells slotted cam gears if you want to Degree them..(optional ?😊)
James Compton also sells Slotted gears....
Or........you could push the boat out and buy a set of genuine Yoshi ST-1 cams from Webike in Japan..
(I have a set I bought for my stash a future 1224 engine build of my "05" ZRX..)
The video of that bike is on my channel..(it has ALL the bells and whistles..,so it Needs that engine...😅)
      BG.

@@brianwells5258 thanks Brian. I value your opinion. I have a set of decent ZZR1100 cams. Larry at PDQ will most likely use those; degreed appropriately. BTW, the paint jobs on your bikes are just awesome. I might up copying one someday! 👍. BTW I am just across the water in Scotland.

@@chriscarbaugh3936 yes ZZR cams are the business...,and if you have a decent set then.....👌
Both my ZRX's were painted by Phil Smith at Crazycustompaint here in N Ireland...www.crazycustompaint.com/
Does a superb job......,but he is Slow since he is always pretty much booked up doing race helmets for a lot of BSB riders etc....
Both those ZRX's (and my Suzuki) were subject to enormous build threads on the ZRXOA forum (I'm one of the moderators there)..
But like the saying goes ....."a ZRX is NEVER done..,you only run out time and money"......😅
So now its onto engines for me........Lol.
Wishing you all the best with your build..
      God Bless

      Chris, Brian, what do
y'all think about WebCam and their welded and regrouped lobes. I've run them in some dirt bikes and I've never heard a bad word about them, and I'm pretty sure they'll grind any spec cams that you want. Any reason you guys aren't using them?
