  • When you install several amplifiers into a car audio system you need to mount them in the vehicle. How you mount them is important, you should avoid attaching them to a subwoofer box. In this video I show you how I make the #CAFGRANDCHEROKEE amp rack for holding the AudioControl Amplifiers.

    So what do you guys think? Should the final beauty panel be lit up and "flashy" or should it be sleek and "stealthy"?
    Also keep in mind if your vehicle doesn't have threaded studs for mounting, you can make holes and use threaded rivets, check out this past video for more mounting ideas: ua-cam.com/video/5O7rOSFAGvw/v-deo.html

      He always says they take him a long time to install, that's because he does it right. Obviously wasn't trained at one of my local car audio system installers! Bet his installs are expensive, but worth every penny. I have some Audio Control's home audio gear and it is top notch. Next car install I'll use their amps and a dsp.

    Stealth, we see so many that are not stealth made by you. I’d like to see how u hide it, perhaps installing a cooling fan somehow would be a cool thing to see

      If you don't need a cooling fan you're better off without it. Unless it's a large fan you're going to hear it.

      I agree. I also have a 2012 Grand Cherokee and was wondering how these (or other) amps are going to hold up completely covered by the rear panel.

      Just run a proper fan. I use the AcustiFan dustproof premium fans in either 50, 80, 100 or 120 mm. They test out at 10 dbA DIN. They are absolutely inaudible.

    • @robertmedina3195
      @robertmedina3195 5 років тому +1

      @@AB-80X if they're that size and only producing 10dba then they're not moving any air. I come from the PC world and even our best fans are louder than that to move any significant amount of air.

    • @AB-80X
      @AB-80X 5 років тому +1

      @@robertmedina3195
      Give them a try. They are in fact moving a good amount of air. I come from the pro audio world, and we have 12" fans that can move large amounts of air 40 feet across a stage and produce less than 25 dba. The noise tells very little - it's all about design.
      You should also note that those numbers are free air numbers. Once you install them with a protective cover, the sound is more like 20-25 db. This is still extremely quiet and virtually inaudible in a car that is not running.
      And lastly, you can simply add a temp sensor and make the fan either on/off or two speed, and just mount the sensor in the enclosed rack where heat builds up - or on the amp heat sink. They are pretty tiny

    As a car audio installer myself, I'd keep it stealth and like numerous have said, a fan to pull whatever heat may build up using the grill on the panel as an exit point for it. A quiet brush-less fan that covers the entire area is what i would suggest.
    Not sure how much heat the sub amp may produce as I have yet to handle an Audio Control product so far, we're a Memphis Audio dealer and the new VIV amps barely produce any heat and have a very small foot print.
    Keep up the great work Mark and I'll be on the lookout for the upcoming episodes on this build.

    Carpet panel to match the interior, however a clear Lexan or Plexi panel (possibly slightly tinted) with a white LED light that is tied into the interior lighting. That way it comes on and turns off with the opening/closing of the hatch. And of course your Logo along with possibly the Audio-Control logo etched in the glass

    My opinion would be to do a steath panel with just 2 small acrylic windows that would just highlight some of the small details like maybe an amp logo and a window to showcase some clean looking wiring coming out of one of the amps. Otherwise just a clean steath panel. Im not a huge fan of lights especially if it is not a large high powered build. hey mark i am a new subscriber and your videos are awesome. i am looking to upgrade my factory stereo in a 2012 hyundai sonata. i have a few questions though. 1) so i want to change out all of the speakers which are 4 door speakers 6.5 and the two tweeters in the dash not sure of the size. i am going to get a double din touchscreen head unit and i want to add an eq as well. i may want to add a small subbox as like a 10 in sub. 2) can i run rca from the output of the new radio to the input of the eq then from the output of the eq to the input of the amp, can i run the output from the eq for the sub directly to the sub. 3) can you research the 2012 hyundai sonata trunk and do a very basic simple amp rack for the trunk please.

    • @AB-80X
      @AB-80X 5 років тому

      It's not PVC, it's Polycarbonate. It's not the same.
      All normal PC has a density of 1.20-1.22 g/cm3, which can actually vary within the sheet itself. You might be able to find some that is of a higher density, but it will be very special and just as expensive.
      I used to work at a plastic factory back in the late 90's working night shifts during my university years, and we sometimes did a few orders for high density PC. It at least triples the price as it's a very different process and it's basically "hand made".
      Considering that a normal sheet of 12x12x3/4 inch PC is about 150 usd, getting HDPC made, is not something you want to do for a car audio install. The density is not even that much higher.

    • @AB-80X
      @AB-80X 5 років тому

      You can do both. Just make sure if you don't drill all the way through, that they are deep enough. You can easily crack the PC if your mounting screws or inserts bottom out. Another bit of advice. I've seen plenty of these back out of PC due to vibration. It's a good idea to add just a tiny drop of thin CA glue to the countersunk surface of the hole, when screwing them in - not into the hole where the threads go mind you. You can still break them loose if needed be, a bit like with thread locker, but they will not back out.

    I use to mount the amp and capacitor to back of sub box but now i mount amp and cap to ceiling of trunk with zip ties so now i can easily remove sub box if i need more space for cargo..

    How do you mount the amp rack to the vehicle if there are not pre-existing bolts/studs and nuts already in the vehicle?

    I think you should remake that panel with fiberglass and have cutouts for each amp and mount them flush with the panel.

    I agree with others. Go stealth. I watch your videos, and it is always a bit showy. I personally wouldn't be able to do a flashy piece because my area has a lot of thefts, and am curious as to how you hide your installs

    Go stealth, nobody's got time to replace windows along with their audio system

      Man, I only ever did stealth builds for this exact reason. First thing I'd do in the morning when waking up was make sure my car was still where I left it and not broken into... Then I moved and don't have to worry near as much.

    i would say some kind of tinted panel that would make it stealth, but if you look close you can see what's going on inside.

    Any reason or benefit to using the LC-6.1200 with the Dm-810 instead of just using a D-6.1200?

      I needed 10 dsp controlled channels.

    I want to mount mine in the drunk but I do not want to have it hidden. so how would I mount if there arent any factory mounting points?

    Always stealth unless it's a show vehicle. A stealthy system is better than a flashy stolen one! : )
