guys, this is just a basic, quick little amp rack. The fans you choose, the location and other things will determine what it is going to take to get the job done. Higher CFM, higher static pressure of course is GOOD! But any air is better than none. :)
when DYI money is no object cuz your saving hundreds if not thousands on someone building it for you. Meade is giving you so much info for free. this info is priceless. i got a quote for $4000 for an install without buying any equipment lol. i can build my own just will be slower but it will be done right and ill save $3000. thank you Meade for posting these videos your the man keep them coming your giving me great ideas. $100 or so dollars for that temp control is well worth it to me
Wow, reading some of these comments?!?!? Like wtf, this nice guy took the time to show a cool way to cool your amps, there are a million ways to do it and I applaud this one as it is efficient and looks cool, and as he said, made the shell out of scraps. Thanks bro, I may design something similar!
Box made out of scraps looks better than anything ive ever build lol......thanks for this though, these informative vids like this are helpful to everyone even guys that have been around for a while but not as skilled lol...good stuff Steve.
I really want to meet the engineer who made this and the DD-1. Man I was just scrolling back through your videos trying to find the one where you mentioned a tool that was best for cutting out holes for woofers in boxes. I was thinking it may have been 2 years ago but I couldn't find it but what really blew me away is that I have been subscribed for about 5 years. Damn. Its weird because I don't even have any woofers in my car and I'm not all that into it. I guess I just enjoy the videos and the scene.
Now That's what am looking forward to building with my son when he gets old enough for now its money saving time because we broke. So for now me and my son will watch you guys inspire us thanks to you guys my dreams stay alive.
Great video. Def made me wanna step my game up with a nicer amp rack and cooling fans. Love your videos where you teach something even beginners can do an benefit from.
Even if it is a test piece that amp rack is good looking man and that thermostat is a great little device to keep the amps from getting damage, I've seen a few amps get messed up because they got really hot so thumb's up for this steve
Dude thanks so much for this video. My RF P600.4 was shutting down on long trips so I decided to build a similar amp cooling rack like yours and I think it came out pretty well. I'm about to install it in my car. I used 4 Corsair ML120 120mm PWM Premium Magnetic Levitation Fans and your TM-1 Sensor. My amps are Rockford Fosgate P600.4 and P1000X1BD Punch.
Great vid. Thanks. Just a suggestion but probably overkill, im gonna add a ½" gap between the amps and base of rack to channel air underneath and prevent insulated hotspots.
That's awesome gave me a couple great ideas I had to laugh when you said this Milwaukee heat. Today is August 6th in South central Texas. I've been working on mine all weekend outside you don't need a heat gun here not even for shrink wrap to shrink. Send rain our way and cooler temps!
I do just put it in two days ago and let me tell you this little thing packs a big punch.. I running a 15 inch American bass xfl and man it sounds Loud!..
I build customer watercooled desktop Pc's... So the push/pull configuration im familiar with.. The fans you got seemed to only be small 88mm fans.. Have you thought about upgrading the fans to corsair 120mm high flow fans? Or the 140mm high flows? I made a box similar to yours only i couldn't find plexi glass and when I tried using my acrylic it would crack something terrible. But I'm running 4 140mm corsair fans in that same push/pull configuration. But my amps are rated class A/B... Your amps are class D which I know they get warm but would someone with class D amps really need a box lke this? I have two boss amps (one thats been pushing the heck out of a 10" Premier audio sub) only during super hot/humid days here in Jax,FL and me having it turned up would throw it in protective mode. I'm sure I could of eliminated this by simply moving the amp higher. Seeing this makes me wonder if theres a way to build a waterblocks (its what us computer nerds use to cool our processor, motherboard chip sets, and graphics cards.) If a water block could be fabricated to cool down the pieces of the amp that get hot it was be interesting to see a subwoofer system that's liquid cooled. Anyways thanks for the video.. I definately would love to have that tempature module you showed us. The ability to set the temp by adjusting a screw in the back. I need that in my life! Lol
This vid gave me some motivation to change up my own amp rack and add a cover to attach the fans to so it would cool more efficiently. Good stuff man thanks for that
New subscriber..... been watching your stuff for a couple weeks. Also new to car audio but jumping in head first cuz I just installed 2 systems in my truck and my girlfriends car. I go to your videos for information all the time. You make everything look so easy! Anyways thank you for putting so much great content out there and explaining stuff so well. Not to mention your camera man does a great job of catching everything for us to see. Thanks again from Bakersfield, California 👍🏼
I wonder about putting one of these on the case fans in my PC? I'm an idiot and didn't read other comments first. I even watched you put them in your pc in your pc build videos. Good shit as usual Steve.
So how much slong do I not 2 suck to get a free set of these temp/fan controllers? For real I just stumbled across this video and noticed it's the dude from outrageous acts of science and now I can't stop watching all the videos on here. Great info bro!
What’s a good temp to keep it under for cooling the amps. Like keep it under 115 or lower ? Just curious what normal temps are and good temps are so I can regulate accordingly. Nice info. I love the set up. Thanks for the nice info.
Damn man, I really like this. I don't have an outrageous system in my car, but my 2 amps do get hot and I think if I re-positioned my box I could fit this in the trunk. Those fans didn't seem to make any noise in the video. Plus I couldn't hear them over the music anyways haha. Looks like I found my next project!
Curious question, would it improve overall interior amp cooling, if younremove the bottom panels on the amps? Or would this allow to much internal exposure?
I like this follow-a-long. I'm going to try and build as soon as possible. One question. What would be an appropriate actual temp to set the sensor? Alabama summers can get in the low hundreds.
Quick question, do you have the fans mounted in a push/pull configuration, or are you pushing air in with all four amps and using the whole you cut for the heat gun as an exhaust? I wonder which setup would produce the best results? Not that it would make that much of a difference; that box cooled down damn quick.
A push/pull configuration would always work better in any circumstance. The object is to run fresh air in over any "fins" on the amp, similar to that of a heatsink on a CPU. If all the fans are blowing out (or in), you aren't going to get any air change inside that box. My concern though would be if you have this in your trunk (where most amp racks are located - behind the back seats), the air inside the trunk is going to gradually get warmer... Especially in warmer environments or during summer months. So you'll end up re-circulating warm air. The design I'm going to build for my WRX is going to be VERY similar to this, however I'm going to have the exhaust fans pumping air into the cabin (just below the back seats through a fake speaker cover) on the driver side, while pulling air in from the passenger side - again, using speaker covers over the hole below the seat. This way the exhaust from the amp rack comes into the cabin and can be cooled with my AC or windows down (whichever I prefer to use at the given moment).
Are 2 fans pulling the hot air out or they all blowing in and pushing the hot air out the open hole at the bottom also can I wire fans to amp for power
thanks man. Just a quick lil' somethin i whipped up :) I was just going to make a video demoing the fans but i decided to use the rack somewhere now :D
I ordered one but the instructions don't mention the yellow wire and they say there's a gray one for positive but I have no grey. I have a thick white wire, a thick black wire and the 3 thin ones (red, black and yellow) which are shielded together. Also there is no mention of how to install the inline fuse... do you cut the wire?? Wish it came with updated and clear instructions. I emailed my questions via the site and via Amazon but no response. I don't want to return it but I'm going to have to if I don't hear back in the next few days.
yellow= constant. Red= switched. Black = ground. The white and black wire is for the fans. We made some changes during the new manufacturing process and the manual didn't get updated. Sorry. Still pretty simple though. Red/Yellow/black is pretty universal in the car audio world. thanks man!
no prob! sorry about that! we are still working out the kinks in our new manufacturing process. I think the newest batch is supposed to be fixed for sure. It all works the same just the wires are not labeled right. Thanks for the order J!
Do you have a fahrenheit version (TM-1)??? I dont like to do the conversion in my head. MY bad you answered it bro! Im gonna get one of those tm1 Fahrenheits
Nice man I had my amp under my seat and it got so hot one time the fuses started melting but I got a new amp and I mounted it in my trunk. I got to make one of these
In the video it says that the controller can handle up to 5 amps without a relay so it depends on how much power each fan draws. The video states that each of those particular fans draws 0.16 amps so it could conceivably control up to 31 of those fans.
Im gonna start mine today I was bumping some Bass Outlaws and my amp was getting to hot and shutting off this happened to two different amps and im not pushing alot of watts with budget amps. There mounted on the back of the rear seat in my 95 yukon and 100 degree weather right now.
Hey steve i got your 12v meter a few months back works like a champ ! im looking to get this temp one to when you thinking its going to be back in stock ? Need to step up production lol
Thats such a cool product! I will definitely be using one for my amp rack. The initial price is intimidating, but I know a device like this could run a lot more then you have them set at. You're changing the audio game one product at a time!
how much would you charge to make a one amp rack? I have a boss riot 1100m just to give you an idea of how big it should be, going under a 98 tahoe seat.
Have you ever thought to try cpu heatsinks for a pc? The night and day temp changes on a cpu with even just a heatsink without thermal paste is staggering. Id love to see how cool a stressed amp stays with a few of them stuck to it especially a Noctua NH D15
Whats up everyone. Will the SMD-TM1F be available anymore? I see its sold out everywhere. Is there an alternative i can use as for a temp monitor/controller for future builds with fans? Thanks a lot. Amazing channel. Learn something new every time i visit!!
Hey smd had bought this product and was installing it and light just flicker and shut down wire like the Instruction said idk if this way is the best to hit u up
Is there another alternative to the fan controller? I'd like the set up just not to interested in paying $114 dollars for the controller. And what are the rpm on the fans you are using?
Hey bro I know this video was posted a few years back. I looked up those z fan and they are not available. Any other fans I can use? Again awesome on you session . God bless 💪😎
guys, this is just a basic, quick little amp rack. The fans you choose, the location and other things will determine what it is going to take to get the job done. Higher CFM, higher static pressure of course is GOOD! But any air is better than none. :)
+meade916 do you have 2 fans as a intake or all 4 pushing out?
yes
Hey steve my fans are 2.75 amps so I guess I can only use one right i dont want to mess up my temp sensor
Mead can you make me one ? And if so how much ? I’ll send half so I can get started and the rest when your done let me know thx 🙏🏽
Had to come back to look at your video to help build a rack for my truck
when DYI money is no object cuz your saving hundreds if not thousands on someone building it for you.

Simple. Effective. Awesome as always. Keep up the good work. I have learned a lot from your channel over the years.
Box made out of scraps looks better than anything ive ever build lol......thanks for this though, these informative vids like this are helpful to everyone even guys that have been around for a while but not as skilled lol...good stuff Steve.
Nice simple lil amp rack I'm going do one like that for my skar system
never thought this would be such an easy install ......never hurts to have the custom cooling .....gr8 vid bro
I really want to meet the engineer who made this and the DD-1.

True player right here bruh this is dope af... the best part other than the build is this guy didnt even ask me to subscribe .... i sub'd .

Does the TM-1 require a constant 12V power supply for memory, or is a switched 12V all that’s needed?
That's awesome gave me a couple great ideas I had to laugh when you said this Milwaukee heat. Today is August 6th in South central Texas. I've been working on mine all weekend outside you don't need a heat gun here not even for shrink wrap to shrink. Send rain our way and cooler temps!

Kind of sells the whole idea of using amp racks in addition to the device itself. Nice.
Man you are sick with the installs Bruh better than most of the beat shops I seen
thanks Marquez!
Anytime bro keep it up and let them haters hate that means you are doing something right
How do you have the fans wired. What are they tied into/how are you powering them in the car?...GREAT VIDEO
This vid gave me some motivation to change up my own amp rack and add a cover to attach the fans to so it would cool more efficiently. Good stuff man thanks for that

Hey Mr. Meade just wanted you to know that your videos are the best! Keep it up no matter what!
thanks Shawn! :)
You the man Steve. Always stepping up the game.
Cool video! Is there a better way I can contact you? I just put up a video of using some sunflash to make part of my latest door pods project!
i thought you had my phone # lol - you can call me any time. email me @ wccaraudio@gmail.com ill give it to you.
Nice simple rack...u the fuckin man Mr.Meade
I wonder about putting one of these on the case fans in my PC? I'm an idiot and didn't read other comments first. I even watched you put them in your pc in your pc build videos.
Good shit as usual Steve.
I think these videos of your products are crazy cool and informative. (no pun intended)
I have 15 Corsair fans in my computer that cool the radiators for my water cooling all powered by a SMD TM-1. Thing is awesome!
So how much slong do I not 2 suck to get a free set of these temp/fan controllers? For real I just stumbled across this video and noticed it's the dude from outrageous acts of science and now I can't stop watching all the videos on here. Great info bro!
Brett W hahah you don't gotta suck on no slong bro....just go to www.wccaraudio.com and order them. LOL
What’s a good temp to keep it under for cooling the amps. Like keep it under 115 or lower ? Just curious what normal temps are and good temps are so I can regulate accordingly. Nice info. I love the set up. Thanks for the nice info.
one of the dopest products I've seen
Man class was in session today thanks Steve gonna do this in my escalade.
Damn Meade... you even take your time to make the small stuff look good...
Great video! Still watching some of your classic videos in 2018 🤑
Damn man, I really like this. I don't have an outrageous system in my car, but my 2 amps do get hot and I think if I re-positioned my box I could fit this in the trunk. Those fans didn't seem to make any noise in the video. Plus I couldn't hear them over the music anyways haha. Looks like I found my next project!
Would it be better to have the probe directly touching the amp🤷🏽♂️just asking
What cfm should be used and are you setting 2 to pull and 2 to push air?
Push/Pull is always the route you want to go, in any circumstance.
Will it still control the speed if I'm running the fan off of a relay? My fan is 8 amps so I need to run it off of a relay.
So I have a small Honda and was wondering if this would work in a wheel well?
Quick question witch fans are blowing air in the box witch fans are blowing air out or do they all blow air into the box
Doesn’t matter which one, and yes one is pushing air and the other is pulling.
So do you have one set of fans blowing in and the other set pulling to air out?
Where is the best spot to put the wire lead with the thermostat on it? Under amp? Or just anywhere in box?
Are you using two fans to push air over the amp and two fans to pull air away from amp or are all 4 used to blow air over the amp?
I have a audiobaughn a2300 hct that has built in fans but I'm gonna use your idea to help keep her cool. Thanks for the informative video
hey man just wondering how do you connect the fans to the temperature controller?
So do I put one set of fans sucking air in and the other pulling air out or both pushing air in ?
This guy is a engineering genius
nahhh...this is just basic stuff. But thanks!
Maybe to you!!! Na you're right you just get creative worth your work I love it, and I mean with all your vids not just this one
Do you have 2 fans running into the box and 2 running outward? If not is the box sealed?
Very cool video. I actually did something similar with my home audio amplifier/receiver and it did miracles for that amp.
Great video Steve. Simple yet extremely effective. May have to grab one once I get a chance to do my rebuild
Actually useful asf for a pc.. Can i get one with an ac wall adapter so i can use it for a pc by hooking a bunch of fans to it?
Quick question, do you have the fans mounted in a push/pull configuration, or are you pushing air in with all four amps and using the whole you cut for the heat gun as an exhaust? I wonder which setup would produce the best results? Not that it would make that much of a difference; that box cooled down damn quick.

How do you have the fans facing pull or pushing the air out of the chamber?
Are 2 fans pulling the hot air out or they all blowing in and pushing the hot air out the open hole at the bottom also can I wire fans to amp for power
Yes push and pull, more efficient, but like he said any air is better than none
Can I run about 3 watts of pc 12v fans off the rem wire ? thanks for vid!!
Would you recommend mounting a amp rack like this on the sub box?
how do you think crossflow fans would do for cooling?
Hey Steve I,m from Western Australia just wondering if you could use the temp guage for the water temperature for your car
that tm-1 is a awesome little device. nice amp rack btw
thanks man. Just a quick lil' somethin i whipped up :) I was just going to make a video demoing the fans but i decided to use the rack somewhere now :D
How much would it cost for this amp rack for a 5 channel amp for my 2018 Chevy Malibu?
Easy to build, I make them
May be a dumb question but are all four fans blowing inside or are two blowing in and two sucking out
can you make one for like the winter? so when you have to go to work it will heat you're subs and amps so they don't break??
I ordered one but the instructions don't mention the yellow wire and they say there's a gray one for positive but I have no grey. I have a thick white wire, a thick black wire and the 3 thin ones (red, black and yellow) which are shielded together. Also there is no mention of how to install the inline fuse... do you cut the wire?? Wish it came with updated and clear instructions. yellow= constant. Red= switched. Black = ground. The white and black wire is for the fans. We made some changes during the new manufacturing process and the manual didn't get updated. Sorry. Still pretty simple though. Red/Yellow/black is pretty universal in the car audio world. thanks man!
meade916 copy that. Thanks for getting back to me!
no prob! sorry about that! we are still working out the kinks in our new manufacturing process. I think the newest batch is supposed to be fixed for sure. It all works the same just the wires are not labeled right. Thanks for the order J!
dam that does a great job cooling steve, its something alot of ppl over look, well till there shit overheats lol
true true haha...thanks!
meade916 when the new subs coming out?
Do you have a fahrenheit version (TM-1)??? I dont like to do the conversion in my head. MY bad you answered it bro! Im gonna get one of those tm1 Fahrenheits
Nice man I had my amp under my seat and it got so hot one time the fuses started melting but I got a new amp and I mounted it in my trunk. I got to make one of these
This is awesome! I need to get at least 1 of these! Thanks for the awesome products, info & tutorials!
so are one side of fans pulling air out while the other one are pushing air in?
meade916 awesome video bro and gave me a ton of ideas about my Avalanche.
That’s super cool man! I’d love something like that for my system. I live in Mississippi so summer heat is a bitch so I’d need that in the afternoon
how would you wire all of the fans together . i have zero know how on this subject, but i need to cool my amp. thanks
I'm a big fan of the little fans.
I def need one in my new Steve.how many fans can they control?
In the video it says that the controller can handle up to 5 amps without a relay so it depends on how much power each fan draws. The video states that each of those particular fans draws 0.16 amps so it could conceivably control up to 31 of those fans.
Thats alot!!!!of fuking fans!!
Would it be better to not include the plexiglass?? I feel like it would conserve the heat more.
What is the tool you used to drill the holes in the sides for the fans
a drill bit
hole saw
How are the fans wired, just straight to the 12v and ground on the amplifier?
Do i put the fans pushing air in or pulling air out
When are you going to put new temp monitors out??
Nice how to Mr.Meade, salutes from Puerto Rico , keep the excelent job my friend. i love your videos .
Were two fans pushing and the other two pulling ?
As always, nice work man. I'll definitely be ordering a TM-1
Ditch that amp go with something better
hey man i was wondering if you have done any amp test with hifonics.
i was looking at the zrx2000.4 it says 250 rms a channel what do you think
thanks for posting this. I'll be building one as soon as my amps come in for my Audi a4
Have you ever thought to try cpu heatsinks for a pc? The night and day temp changes on a cpu with even just a heatsink without thermal paste is staggering. Id love to see how cool a stressed amp stays with a few of them stuck to it especially a Noctua NH D15
Whats up everyone. Will the SMD-TM1F be available anymore? I see its sold out everywhere. Is there an alternative i can use as for a temp monitor/controller for future builds with fans? Thanks a lot. Amazing channel. Learn something new every time i visit!!
As heat rises......I would place the temp sensor in the top rear corner to turn the fans on sooner and to hide the sensor.
Nice setup, where can I get the parts so I can build me one of those
Super helpful video. Looks like I got a project for next weekend haha
gonna add some beat to Antheny's Tahoe.. ?neat lil device Steve , i predict u will have many happy customers.
Hey smd had bought this product and was installing it and light just flicker and shut down wire like the
Instruction said idk if this way is the best to hit u up
Is there another alternative to the fan controller? I'd like the set up just not to interested in paying $114 dollars for the controller. And what are the rpm on the fans you are using?
Wouldn't you want the probe inside the amp? I really like this build just worried about frying internal components
Hey bro I know this video was posted a few years back. I looked up those z fan and they are not available. Any other fans I can use? Again awesome on you session . God bless 💪😎
