How to do a relaxer at home on natural hair roots for retouch/ touch up. Part of my tips for taking care of your relaxed hair so that it can grow long.
How I grew my relaxed hair long:
• Grow Long Relaxed Hair...
About passing the growth plateau:
• The Truth About Why Yo...
I found a Nigerian with long hair. I can do this 💪🏾
Ofcourse we can
Are you Nigerian or implying something
shar4ever96 I’m Nigerian boo. That’s why I added “I can do this”
I've seen several on UA-cam. Especially natural hair Nigerians with even longer hair than this. I'm aiming for waist length
Yes!!! 🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬
I love your hair it doesn’t look over processed
thank you!
I don't trust the people at the salon. They don't care about our hair. They are rough and they put relaxer everywhere. They just care about the money 😭
Juliet Boakye Yiadom so true! I’d rather do it myself. I started my relaxed hair journey this week
Yes I want to relax again but all I can remember is how many times salon professionals has burnt all my hair out
You've said it alllll👏🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
That's why I've only entrusted a few people to do my relaxer and touchups. I only go to licensed professionals who work in an actual shop and not the stylist's cousin's boyfriend's kitchen.
Exactly
Guys, she's Nigerian. Poom poom is a sound effect we use lol
😆
Exactly 😂
😁😁
Luv it..im gonna use poom poom😃
Chinwude Tv *Jamaicans have entered the chat* A wha yuh a seh?! 😂😂😂
Love my Nigerian brothers and sisters. ♥️
The professionals are the ones who messed up my hair by putting relaxer on hair that was already straight. They weren't being careful at all. Five different professionals did that over the years. My hair was the length as yours. I ended up having about 7 or 8 inches cut off because of damage. But I like that it's a lot easier to handle now that it's not so long. I don't think I'll be going back to the salons any time soon. I'll be better off doing it myself.
Its really sad that this happens. I totally feel you on just doing it yourself.
I agree. Unless you find that 1 diamond that you trust.
lillingtoncr that’s how I feel!
@@gritsnwavy3059 I had one but we had to move a different state. This lady did great work. I haven't found anyone else here who works the way she does. She never ruined my hair and it always looked nice when she did it. Something else that I liked about her was that she never made clients sit around and wait for a long time. She would start on my hair a few minutes after I got there. And her next client would show up when she was almost done with me. She was a real diamond and her business was very successful.
I swear the relaxers at the salone caused me to chop all my hair off...I’m natural now but strongly considering going back to relaxing and doing it myself
My mom has always relaxed my hair and I always get in trouble for accusing her of going past the new growth. She says I’m ungrateful and she knows what she’s doing and I should do it myself if I’m gonna complain etc etc. I’ve always been scared to do it on my own, but I think after watching this, I’m gonna go for it, this video is the most helpful I’ve seen yet.
Haha, sounds like something my mom would say too, i completely feel you
How did it go?
Seun Okimi
Lol watching ur vids has given me as a guy more confidence to try relaxing again maybe
My mom used to put it all over my hair every time
My mum says the same 😂
TRUST NO STYLIST!!! Everytime I do, I come back with less hair. Research, research, research and do things yourself. Just because they are professionals DOES not mean they know what they're doing.
This is so true!! I live in Germany. And most of the "Hairstylists" here actually don't even have a license 😅
They literally just self proclaim🤦🏾♀️
They messed up my hair so many times that I had to shave it.
Now I'm here trying to figure it out on my own.
I swear, I almost went bald last month😭😭😭😭😦
Facts!! Starting my own tonight for the first time.
So true !
This is what my mom doesn't get. I'm about 3-4 inches now after a bad relaxer (she was my friend, inexperienced and thought she knew it all). I'm so paranoid of my hair and I don't want anyone combing the relaxer through or damaging my hair. I know tht when I get the virgin relaxer I'm gonna self relax from there forth
This whole entire time I’ve been watching you I never knew you were relaxed
lol, yes, my hair is relaxed!
But most her titles & the actual video say "Relaxed" several times 🤔
Lol. I didn't know it either
The advice I have for any African girl out there is this- stay away from the hair salons. I recently braided my hair after many years in this hair salon. I couldn’t sleep properly for one week. I had to take it off. It’s just recently black girls started understanding hair care for tightly curled hair. The saloonist doesn’t know better especially when they can’t feel the pain caused on the hair they’re making. The most annoying saloonists are the ones who argue with you about how tight their braids are. I have had this experience especially with the ones that come from the French speaking parts of West Africa. I have learnt to make my own hair by watching UA-cam videos and I feel liberated and comfortable with the results.
I really feel that
The salon i go to for braids in Ghana is superb. You‘ll sleep like a baby on the first day after braids. My stylist is great.
After watching Seun video and hairlicous video I decided to combine their tips and tricks together and I was very pleased. I used splitting my hair in half method to relax one side at a time 20 minutes on each side. I started in the crown on each side for it is the thickest part of my hair. It took longer but it was worth the result. All in all it took me an additional 20 minutes but my hair was evenly relaxed. I used hairlicous tips to prep my hair for my relaxer and used products she suggested prior to applying the relaxer. Checkout her relaxer video also. Thanks Seun for showing the half hair method it was very easy and the results were awesome. I will continue with this method as long as I self relax.
Yes! I love this comment!
What's the brand of the relaxer do you use???
which relaxer product did you use if you remember?
I’m natural but I’m watching this anyway because I like you’re videos
Aw, thank you so much!
Me too, I was about to comment this
Same 0 intention to relax my hair but damn.. so nice to watch her videos 😂🤓🍿
@@d.5172 me too
Literally me too rn 😂
She has really studied her craft! Spot on with the explanations.
Woo girl that’s a lot of hair
(:
The only thing missing from this video is to apply a base of Vaseline to your scalp! It is really important. Even a drop of relaxer on your scalp can cause “burning” and cause you to wash out the relaxer too soon
something about your hair takes me right back to braiding my friends’ hair in middle school gym class. it’s so long and thick and soft looking
I love your advice. Your the best honest person for hair I know. God Bless!
I wonder what it'll feel like flinging my own hair back and forth
?
frr
The smoothing too far the hair length up to where it bunches up is so true..that's the only way I see hair stylists relax hair here in Ghana
And so..Yes this is so beneficial..thank u Seun😊
Yes, its really a problem. And so happy to help!
Yes so true. Ghanaian here too
I think African in General
I think all African countries because the salon owner they just open the salon in order to earn money without a proper license to know what they are doing . And that’s y they messing up with our hair n we wonder why African hair doesn’t grow longer
That's how my hairdresser does it too... I'm from Jamaica
Your hair is very pretty! you are brave, I have my trusted hair stylist do my relaxers and I do all the maintenance: moisture/sealing and trim.
Thank you! Yes, I feel that
Thank you for the advice! Both my daughters have had healthy relaxed hair for 3 years and we're trying to push past a mid back growth plateau! New subscriber!
So happy to help!
Seun's hair forever giving me major hair envy! Relaxing may not be for everyone though. I've talked about other methods for permanent hair straightening too on my channel. 💞
My hair is not relaxed but I love watching your videos. Your video on the growth plateau was what made me realise that I didn't have unlucky genes and my hair could grow too. It's just five months old now but it has never been healthier. Thank you, Seun!
Awww, I love this comment. That makes me so happy to know.
Am literally dancing with joy right now ,I have hope that my hair will grow longer💃💃💃
This video is the best I've seen on relaxers, thank you
Yay! Thank you!
My mother used to relax my sister's hair and I every 2 weeks when we were in primary school. Our hair was a mixture of orange, red, brown and black 😂😂💔💀 *and short as hell*
I'm in 12th grade now and it's wayyyyy better. I relax my hair twice in a year💀🚶♀️🚶♀️🚶♀️
Aww, lol, happy its better now!
😂😂LMAO!!
😂😂😂😂😂A mixture of orange, red, brown black 😂😂😂 😂😂😂
Do you do it yourself now or do you go to a salon ?
😂😂
Omg! Thank you! I have such dense hair! The half and half method is DEFINITELY worth trying! 🙌🙌🙌
You're so welcome!
I think your videos are amazing! I like how you mention your errors and how to correct them. I'm starting to do hair at age 50. I've always braided my own hair and added extensions but I've never felt confident enough to do others. Many of my friends and family love my style but couldn't get me to do their hair. During this pandemic the Lord spoke to me about using more of my talents for His glory. My gift is hospitality. I know women and young girls in my neighborhood who would like their hair done but can't afford it. Getting your done lifts the very soul of a woman, in my opinion. Watching your videos gave me the final boost I needed to say, "I can do this!"
My desire is to do women/young women hair in my neighborhood for free and trust God to bless me with whatever I'll need to do that.
Thank you for your honesty and your professional tutorials! They are so detailed, that even I and able to follow them and learn.
Aww, so so happy to help!
@@SeunOkimi thank you for your videos. I agree with everything you say about taking care of our hair, I've always said that to maintain our hair it needs to be put away for awhile. My hair has been damaged over the years by hairdressers. During this lockdown after watching you video I took courage and weaved it myself for the first time! No more expensive hairdressers!!! Thank you, God Bless
You are gorgeous and your hair is EVERYTHING!!!!!!! WOW! Thanks for the video!
This is the type of videos we want, thank you
Happy to help!
I'm watching from Papua New Guinea. I was a natural for 6 years until I watched one of your video's early this year and decided to Relax my own hair, so far I have followed your advice and I can see results, I have a lot of new growth and I'm maintaining length. Thank you Seun♥️
So sad should of stayed natural.
Well we're in quarantine now & I'm stuck lol I am gonna try to do it myself tomorrow lord
Me too lord help us lol
Me too!
Me too sis
I know what you mean have to do it myself, lil nervous but it has to get done. Feel confident after watching Seun's video.
Same
Lmao I’m a guy and I used to relax my hair a lot and was doing it completely wrong. I use to comb it through and over process my hair. I would actually get the relaxer all over my roots and scalp too. I started having a lot of breakage and damage and even thinning in some parts. A lot of it has grown back but now that I’ve done more research and actually learned more about it, I feel like I might actually be able to do it without my hair falling out. Relaxer is meant for the hair, not my scalp, roots and follicles lol
Dude here! Did u ever experience tangled hair a lot? I want to grow my hair out but it's so coily it gets tangled which imo hinders growth, and i'm not sure how to deal with it.
Your videos are super detailed and male a lot of sense! Thanks for inspo
You are so welcome!
Love your videos so clear and straight to the point. Subscribed 😍
Aw, thank you so much!!❤️
I am tired of "professionals" burning my hair. I learned so much from this video and I've been relaxed for years. My sylists NEVER took the time to try some of these methods such as doing half and half or starting at my crown instead of the nape. Thet just keep burning me over and over really want to star
I definitely feel you
is it just me or you really resembles Gabrielle Union. #black beauty
Yh, she looks so much like her
OMG, I was saying it the whole time
Great video! Great tips..especially about over processing. Thank you!
You are so welcome!
Thank you for your video! It was very informative and you answered my question if it mattered if I comb it through or not.
I’ve stopped going to hair salons because they kept messing my hair up. My scalp got fryed last time I went. The breakage was so bad and my scalp had a rough texture for months. After so many years of breakage, it’s finally doing better and growing past my shoulders.
Good to hear your hair is doing better. And really happy to help
Great information, I will start doing my hair in two sections. I’m texlaxed. Thank you!!🙂
I am so happy that I was doing it right all these years but the salon or hairdresser don't do it like this which is why I stop going, I use to have a great stylist but they moved away. Ugh. But I am happy that this what I was doing.
Since Im relaxing my hair at home, it's healthier/longer, I aknowledge less breakage ...I've been going to "professionals" salon and i have never had healthy hair .. I still have a lot to learn but I guess you're right when you say you've learned to trust yourself .
Yes, exactly, I feel you
Wow i love that u said that about relaxing in sections. ❤ thanks 🎉
Wonderful tips!!! I used to have that same problem when it came to smoothing...Will u be able to film ur next relaxer day and what u do before and after? I would love to see it!!
Glad to help! No, I most likely wont fiilm it! I don't want to be distracted with trying to film properly. All I do before is make sure that my hair is as detangled as possible, and for after I just let it air dry and use a good leave in
@@SeunOkimi yeah, not a good idea, you can ruin your entire length by just one bad relaxer day
@@SeunOkimi ok. Thanks. But are you saying rolling ones hair immediately after relaxing is bad? Because of the fact that we manipulate the hair while it's wet, right?
Great tips! I'm still trying to perfect a self relaxer
Queen, Your hair is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!! "All black women are bald headed! Their hair doesn't grow! They all wear weave!", are comments I've heard my entire life and you are proof that's bunch of B.S.! Thanks for the tips on relaxing, I hope mine turns out halfway decent! Keep shining Queen! Showcase your BEAUTIFUL non-weave LONG AF Mane & represent us to the fullest Queen!💁🏾♀️😘✌🏾❤
Thank you!!
Na you sabi where you de hear all does rubbish, do you know the meaning of bald... I think you are exaggerating it when you say you hear black ladies have bald hair😏or you simply don't know the meaning, else that's not even going to make sense to you enough to need even a motivation. Even if people spend their whole life saying that, there are proves everywhere that that's a lie. Don't you have hair on your hair?. Bald is maybe you exaggerating what you were told or the other person appealing to your ignorance or insecurities
Hair is gorgeous!
thank you!
I would love to know how long you take for each half... like literally- from basing to wash.... is that 15 minutes? 25? I would love to see a video with a timer🖤🖤... I have learned to trust myself more too.
Relaxing my own hair is definitely a lot and I agree with you 100% that I don't have time for all of this, plus I'm not good at it... At all. But I feel like I have to learn now because of COVID-19, I don't trust a salon won't cause me to contract COVID-19 lol. So, in an attempt to try to stay alive, I'm going to have to learn how to relax my own hair properly.
I'm natural too but I still watch for hair curiosity
Many of her hair care tips are good for natural hair too
@@Q.T-T truee
Thank you so much for the tips. Very helpful!!
You are so welcome!
I will try on my self first with texlaxing kit for the first time due to lockdown. Also this salon people think they know better than urself but they know nothing, how come they put relaxer on relaxed hair why and when u try to ask they said coz that’s is old relaxed so to straighten up again .. why that person called herself a professional or she has experience but my hair always weak because of that . Thank you for the tips .. beautiful healthy hair you have 😍
I feel you! Happy to help❤️
How do you moisture your hair after a wash or relax ? like my hair is always so stringy and doesn’t look so fluffy and nice like yours. Nice video btw very helpful
I'm so glad I found your channel I'm going to watch every show I want my hair long and healthy it's finally growing since I started using oils and wrapping my hair at night now I need to relax new growth and I'm scared which is strange I do my hair all the time now well 6 years and the first 4 were over processing and dry ends and shedding. But I got that under control now.
SEUN I LOVE UR HAIR 😭😭😭❤❤❤
Im in love as well😫😫
GREAT tips!! ✨
Hello! This was so helpful. Thank you!! You just got yourself a new subscriber
Aww, so happy to help! Thank you so much for subbing!
Could you do a video of you relaxing your hair and styling?
I'm watching this and I'm slowly developing a grudge with every hairstylist that's ever relaxed my hair😣. Either I make hairstylists watch this video or I just relax my hair by myself from here on out
Looool period sis. I’m with you on that 😂
Great walk thru. I actually learned something 👍🏽
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for sharing your ideas this video is greatly appreciated
You are so welcome!
LOVE your videos! New subscriber 💜
Omg Seun u got a shout out on Brad Mondo's channel
Jenessa Logan ohh you watch his videos too. lol same
Brad Mondo yall know my style
Awww, I just watched it
Generally it's best to start application at the crown area. The relaxer softens the hair, the smoothing is what gets the hair straighten. To avoid too much smoothing you would allow time for the relaxer to soften the hair. It's also best to retouch every 6 to 12 weeks.
Very VERY beneficial video!!
I want to try relaxing again but I’m afraid I’m going to meet someone who stills thinks the hair relaxed if it’s BONE-STRAIGHT. I still need texture! All the girls with long relaxed hair still have texture like yours. 😩 I want to go back but I’m truamatized.
Just straighten with heat protectant and antihumidity spray after.
Here after seeing your shout out on Hairdresser YT page 💗
Aww Yay! Thank you!
This is very helpful.I relax my hair once every 5-6 months. After the first month I wear braids. Should I relax more often?
"Section it, poom poom" lol ❤
haha
I went natural for a year and my hair grew the longest past shoulder length.... Then I decided to relax the next and within that same year my hair got damaged. I should of done touch ups at home rather than going to the salon. I'm on a new hair journey I'm trying the natural touch up relaxed hair this year.
All the best moving forward!
Gorgeous hair and super helpful video! If i'm relaxing for the very first time, do I need to comb it through to the ends?
Yes you do! And thank you!!
Good advise.you really helped me.i was doing all wrong.
*Poom poom
Lol🤷🏾♀️😆
How often do you relax your hair?
Also how often do you put treatment on it?
You are my long hair goal. Beautiful hair 🤩
thank you!!!!!❤️
This helped! Thank you!
Excellent video very detailed thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
How do you do that wave effect ? (Thanks for your videos, it really helps me a lot because there aren't many people on youtube who talk about relaxed hair with so much precision and so many tips😊)
It was in two big cornrows beforehand! So happy to help!
This was really helpful
Great video 💙
Someone relaxed my hair recently and all the hair she combed out can make a new born have long hair. Now all my hair is gone 😭
Aww, really sorry to hear that
O no
I'm sorry to hear about that 🥺
Sounds like my ex hair stylist. At home hardly any breakage, in salon: clumps of hair. Yep somethings wrong, never went back and hair is thriving
@@katelinmcmillan8998 thank you
I’m white and would never need this but I find this so interesting. Nice videos
I use to burn so badly from relaxer that my hair dresser had no choice but to do my hair half and half she did the back first then the top.. Again good detailed video 👍👍
Thank you! Ooh, i feel you. Thats smart
Hi Seun,
Can do a video recommending things that should guide selecting a good tender
Gosh how did u get hair such as Rampanzel 😍😍😍❤ i admire it. So called know it all stylists ruined my thin hair by over heating after being in the dryer. Dnt know why they think excess heat does no wrong to chemical hair smh. Gosh. I tried my first relaxer at home today n its so soothing. I didnt get it fully reladed cus i was afraid to over relax it n lose my hair but i am so proud i did great
Thanks, your video is very helpful, due to the Corona 19 Pandemic I have to relax my own hair.
Best of luck!
When do you put the relaxer in after you take your braids out? Some do it immediately and some wait for days or even weeks.
I should of watched this video before my mom touched up on my roots🥺.
●○Bubble Tae○● Honestly, my mum just does what she wants, she applies root to tip and has been doing so for years😫😫
But gotta love that you’re a black army 💜
Great and helpful video 😊
So glad it was helpful to you!
Hey Seun. I'm new here and so far I loove it! i have a few questions though.
What is your hair type?
How long has it taken to grow it this far?
I've had my hair relaxed then natural and now I'm considering relaxing it again but this time, I want to be more intentional with it.
Check out my "how I grew my relaxed hair long' video! I cover more there!
WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW best relaxed hair video ever and I mean it. I REALLY MEAN IT GIRL... 1.14-1.40 you SPEAKING THE TRUTH like... Ive seen dozens and dozens of videos of people relaxing at home and all 'em doing this completely wrong and I was thinking: 'wow some strands are relaxed too far down past the line of demarcation"'. Do you know the best? 90% of professiinals at salons doing this wrong too.
Very informative video, wish every relaxed girl should watch it. Thanks
Aww, thank you!!!
Girl 100% agree a lot of stylist do it wrong. This video is bomb
Hey Seun, any more advise for correcting under processed hair? especially how to fix relaxer without overlapping with relaxed hair on both ends.
Consider going to a professional, but if not, do your best o eye exactly which areas are under processed and try not to go past that!
I'm transitioning to natural hair but I still watch this because she pretty~
Seun I like ur hair 😘😘😍😍😍
aww thank you!
Thank you, for the tips . I use affirm Avalon no lye .
Which relaxer did you use? Thanks for this video.
Hi thank you so much for the information. How did your corrected the "under proccessed" part of your hair? Did you put the relaxer back in that part at the your next relaxer? In having the same problem and i dont want to cut the hair out
I think i did yes, actually because it just bothered me so much, but I didnt leave it on for that long
Where I live I don't trust these people cause they don't show your hair love. It is one of the reasons I stopped braiding my hair cause none of them will be like hey let me not braid your edges in so tight. I do everything for my hair my self and now I do see the improvements. If u can't dedicate the lengthy time it takes to learn how to do your own hair properly like doing research, then let someone who knows do it. Loved your video and hair
Thank you! Yes, I really feel you on that
Rebekah Joseph where do you stay?
Very helpful!! Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Very informative, my hair is relaxed and long. However, unfortunately due to having
RA my hair sheds tremendously.
Aw, really sorry to hear that.
Happy this was informative to you
What's RA ?
Do you or have you add any oil or conditioner to your relaxer to weaken it’s strength?
