Not sure how I stumbled across your channel but I couldn't resist binge watching to see what you did after the nightmare you were faced with, and I can't believe the transformation. I loved the Shongololo bit, as South African's we forget how many viewers don't understand words we so commonly use daily, so I had a good at the Shongololo.
Hi there! Thanks for watching and yes its been quite a wild ride but we're getting there slowly but surely. To be quite honest, the Shongololos have actually disappeared since we made that video - we had hardly any this year. Glad you're enjoying our journey!
Shongololo. Some builders are known for doing strange things especially if you are not there to supervise. The house renovations are coming along nicely.
Yes - Shongololo - thats how I know them and yes, we were not there all the time to make sure the building work was done correctly so unfortunately we paid the price for that. Thanks, yes, the renovations are coming along slowly but we soldier on!
Thanks for watching our journey! We've had such a challenging last few months that we haven't even been able to make videos 😩 But things are settling down now and we'll be posting updates soon! A lot has happened so stay tuned.
Only in South Africa - builders carefully leaving the windows wrapped when installing them. Definitely deja vu there. We call them songololos, perhaps it's a patois thing, the "sh" or "s". Wikipedia informs that they get to 33.5cm (!!!). I'm glad to say none of those ever crossed my path. Every so often while watching your labours the first vision of the house comes to mind and one can only marvel at your a achievements .
33.5 cm!!! Eish, yes, glad we haven't seen any that big around here either - in fact this year the numbers have dwindled quite significantly which we're thankful for! Thanks for watching!
Hallo Jonathan and Elsa! Ex-Saffa now in Australia (yes, yaawwnnn, one of many!), I'm enjoying your videos. So lovely to see a part of the Western Cape I often saw when living in Stellenbosch and Somerset West. Moerse progress, boet!
Hi there - welcome to our shenanigans 😁 We actually still have a place in Gordon's Bay so it's great to hear from a "neighbour. Glad you're enjoying our videos - progress is slow but we're getting there!
I like your progress guys kindly give us a tour one day on your homestead. I so wish you already started with growing your own food and eat from your own land things are expensive yerrrrrr, anyways my family and I enjoy your content. God bless.
Thanks Sizwe! Yes, we are itching to start the garden but we've decided to focus on getting the house a little bit more liveable first. As soon as we get to live on the property more permanently we will definitely start growing our own food because as you say - everything is getting so expensive! Thanks again for watching and supporting our channel, much appreciated! 🙌🏼
Very true! I must say, their work in general was not too bad overall but who leaves cardboard packaging on a window when installing it. Boggles the mind! Thanks for watching us fumble along 😂
Really love how Elsa is just there standing on the ladder painting and making is look so easy😃! The progress is just crazy, I remember watching the video on your first night on the homestead and now the house looks incredible. And yea we get so excited over the little things since we moved to the homestead, for us it's pallets. Hehe we ask for them everywhere we go and we are literally using them to build everything 😝.. Also is that guest room pink enough? 🤣🤣 Love this for you and taking lots of strength from your journey!
😂😂 Yes, Elsa does tend to make things look a lot easier than what they are. Thanks for the encouragement - we love watching you guys and glad you're back. Your last video was also very encouraging for us, this homesteading journey is not for the faint hearted! Oh yes, pallets, we're constantly on the hunt 😂
Last year we were inundated with songalolos. Even in the house. Everything that was left for more than 2 hours had 1 under everything you picked up. Even in our laundry badkets
@@overberghomesteading Okay, thanks for the reply. That is not too far out. We are on a farm between Botriver and Kleinmond. I am working my way through your playlist to try and figure out where you are, but my money is on Tessies. We have friends there as well. Beautiful area. All the best with your journey. :)

We had shongololos all the time when we lived in Joburg 😅
We're going into summer now - AND WE STILL HAVE THEM 😂
I love your move, it makes me excited I have been following overseas homesteaders. Can't wait for all the food growing...

Well done Johnathan and Elsa🎉
Thanks so much!

There is a lot of people who claim what they are, but saw us from a far and smile take your money and do half a job. Be vigilant for them.

No homestead house would be complete without a pink room 🙂
😂 Absolutely!

Strange thing is that we haven't had as much this year at all.
What a challenge it has been. Fabulous to see the progress. Lovely countryside. Really enjoying your channel.
Thanks very much and thanks for watching! Hoping to have more regular updates coming out in the future.
Looking good......need some Les and S down there. 😂
You're absolutely right buddy!!
Cracked me up with 'shongololo'
Thanks for watching! Lol, yes and we're going into winter now and they're back, at least not as bad as last year though!
We are relatively new to the Overberg/ Overstrand region where did you find a place that sells lace curtains?? :O
Hi there! We bought it from a company called "Fabric Centre" opposite Builders Warehouse in Somerset West.
