- G'day, you mob! In today's video, I show you some water propagations that I've been working on recently. My Monstera deliciosa albo (reverted), Thai Constellation, and Brazilian form.

The real game changer for me and water propagation was including a bubbler or air stone to make sure the water stayed oxygenated

I understand the frustration and the preference for variegated and healthier plants. What I don't understand is considering plants as low and high level, putting them in the trash even if they're still alive, which is pretty sad and tells a lot about your relationship with plants.
or he just doesn't want a bunch of propagations that aren't desirable, no point in adding more labor and time into plants that aren't worth selling or keeping
@@zack-lk8if He could just put them outside for someone to take though. It's still a living thing, (sure it's not like a human or a animal) and because it's not variegated or desirable he's just going to throw it away? If you really think about it, it's sad that we throw life away like this.
@@zack-lk8ifwhenever I have plants I don't want anymore, I underprice them and they're gone within a day or two. When I was killing my giant alocasia, couldn't figure out what was wrong, I passed her along for $10 and girl was out of my hands that day. Trashing them can just introduce invasive species and cause more problems than you think you're solving. If they "aren't worth selling" then don't sell them, offer them for free and someone will come collect that pathetic plant on top of the cabinets that you always forget about, there are always hobbyists looking for underpriced plants that we could help, most of my plants were unwanted propagations that are now thriving and probably doing better than their mother plants. I found a monstera that was so big it didn't fit in their green bin and was toppled out of it, and I feel no shame in hosing that sucker off because now he goes to my ceiling and has even started showing variegation in his newest leaves now that he outgrew one room and was moved, gets more light now and he's getting to the point where he might hook into my ceiling with the air roots. If I can't find spaces for his propagations, I'll pass them along for free since that's how I got this beast. I love the look on new hobbyist faces when they come to buy a little monstera cutting to try out and I hand them a beefy plant that I don't have the space for, even seasoned hobbyists get so happy when I hand out freebies that I would have thrown out otherwise
Actually, ya can still block the reversion with a special UV light treatment, the wavelength of the light has to be below 370nm to be effective but this method could potentially allow your cutting to regain variegations.
I learned this from a botanical institute while studying botany :)
Does this work for this type of variegation though? I think the Florida Beauty is chimeric more so than viral or a stable genetic type.

I have used the UV lighting he's referring to for about 12 months and had great success.
Although I had chopped them right back before hand.

I have had scale for years now, never much of a problem. Untill I got antheriums :( When scale gets on your leaves they get deformed when they get bigger
Ah bugger... Will definitely have to keep an eye out for those guys on my Anthuriums then
Just discovered root rot on my thai 🙄 Like 95% of roots gone. 😄 I prefer water propagation so will try that. At least then I can see what is going on in there. 😅
“Affordable” in Canada is about $120-$180 for a Thai Constellation. I haven’t seen one lower than $120 and it was for a small plant. I just bought one for 145+ shipping and I cannot wait until it gets here 😊
*edited to say that the prices are definitely coming down a lot even in the last 2 months since I first commented! I’m seeing juvenile plants for as low as $70-$90 now instead of well over $100
Canada here too, they're still so expensive!!! I've still never seen one irl 😭
I live in the north eastern US and an “affordable” plant is about $100-$150, but they’re small, no fenestrations yet. Probably from TC. Cuttings and props sell for a little less but I rarely see them, I always see albos and aureas for $100 per leaf

Hi Pete! I cannot speak from experience because I have yet to own a pink princess. However, I was watching one of Kaylee Ellen’s old videos today and she talked about how pink princesses are incredibly annoying for “reverting”. She talked in detail about how they often do so randomly and are also very prone to doing so after being cut. BUT she mentioned that more often than not, they will actually get their variegation back after several new leaves which I know can take a bit of time. Like I said, I can’t confirm this from experience but it was a neat little tid bit of info. So maybe don’t give up hope! Your cuttings may improve with time.

Pink Princess is a genetic varigation variation. Meaning: the varigation is random, often goed 'dark' after cutting or not getting what it needs, bit Will be able to come back again!
How long do you let the cut ends callous before putting in water? Do you put anything on the cut ends?
It probably doesn't matter too much if it's in water, but usually 30 mins or so minimum.
I'm gonna have to try this with my Thai constellation. I was afraid to propagate it honestly, but yours did so well.
It should do okay, particularly with the bubbler.

Just got a Thai con for $80. Someone sells Thai con and albos all types for under $100 for plants that get big in 8 months. Idk if this guy did tissue culture and acclimated them and selling them cheap.
Here in the inland empire, also I got a Thai con for $40 it’s a node that has 2 broken leaf and 1 leaf that just opened, and it has beautiful fenestrations it’s exaggerated

Our big box store set out 20 Pink Princess for $19.99@
The smaller leaves towards the bottom of each plant were highly variegated in brilliant pink and crème. The larger and prolific upper leaves had reverted to a bronze/green.
The ID tag simply named them as philodendron.
It will be interesting to see how your PP mother plant grows out.

Interesting. I wonder if they were just cutting their losses at that point. Try cutting them back if you get one.
Yeah same here in ohio, in the US, got a large one with like 4 baby shoots for 24 dollars. Not bad.

Hi Pete can u help me pleaseee, I have a Thai concelation with severe root root, all leaves are off I just have the nozzle its green yayyy do I place it in moss in a snap lock bag , re pot it in soil or let it sit in water to grow root I really want to save this lil guy plz help me
I'd water prop it with a bubbler if it has no roots.

In Aus, depends. If it's the 'marble' form, still a few 100 for a large one. If it's the standard form, probably $20-30
I took your advice on soil and my plants are now THRIVING, so thank you so much for that. And my monstera albo prop that I was sure I was going to lose now has growth bumps, so I'm very hopefully it will produce (and retain) healthy roots

I put pieces of my pink princess in the aeroponics clone Station and within a week I had an amazing amount of roots and within two weeks there was enough for me to be able to pot it up. So impressed

i dont put my princesses in water to root anymore, i had such a time with getting them to root in water, so, i decided to just put the node in a well draining soil in two weeks or less i not only have roots she gave me leaves. it works every time, for me its a no fail plan.

I've been thinking of trying one outside myself but worried Winter and frosts would kill it.
Haven't been able to find anything online to confirm one way or another.
I've got a few out there now. I've been to a few houses around here where they have huge Monstera deliciosa large forms just growing in the backyard. One was 30 years old and practically a weed lol

No probs just protect from frost and too much sun,,there is a superb example as you walk around Lake Benalla, it's on a back yard fence under a huuuge oak tree AND has fruit!

Love your videos! I have been wanting an Albo/Thai for a while I found a local shop that had some thai’s and they are smaller. I was curious, with all your knowledge, would it be ok to pot them together for a fuller plant? Or leave them separate?
Hey Paul, you could and I've seen people do it. Though, they'll probably size up quickly, the Thai particularly because it's a large form Monstera. But if you want to save space or having a fuller plant whilst they're small, yeah, no reason why you can't :D

But yes. Thai constellation and monstera in general has gotten so cheap here in the Philippines. *Around just like 3-6$* or It’s basically a give away.
But I love them non the less. My favorite plant. Ever.
