You both are referring to "Fluid Drive."
Fluid drive is the basis for Hy-Drive.
This is the hydraulically-shifted trans borrowed from Chrysler and DeSoto.
So what happened to the Hy drive after some time? Was it reliable? Did the Torque Flight eventually replace it?
Powerflite fully automatic transmission was introduced in 1953. Powerflite became an option on Plymouths in 1954. It sort of made Hy-Drive unnecessary and after 1954, was discontinued.

With Dodge in 1951 the Gyromatic 4 speed had two low and two high ranges

You would think that Plymouth could have developed a conventional automatic transmission before 1955,
I think Chrysler first introduced hy-drive in 1939 .
