That fuel/air pre-heat reminds me of Smokey Yunick's "hot vapor" engine, used in the Pontiac Fiero. The government quashed the original because it was "too efficient".

Hehe love it crank case breather venting to the atmosphere but then stating not enough vacuum at slow speeds when there is a vacuum literally a huge vacuum pump inside the engine bay
What took them so long to understand pcv?!

Well like anything there are varying explanations. The short of it is, In the narrator's voice, would you like the contaminants to recirculate into your engine? Emissions regulations dealt a heavy blow to cars increasing production cost, weight, and decreasing performance. EGR is relatively new and simple. Sealed gas tanks and carbon sequesters on fuel system breathers are required so that volatile gasses aren't released into our atmosphere. There are many reasons that makes cars cleaner today, but the basics still hold true. Oil has to be inspected to prolong engine life, and the use of detergents today is far outpacing the base oils of yesterday.

Look at those high-tension wires at 14:50. WTF were they thinking?
