    I wish I had seen this a day earlier. I ran into this exact situation this am when I was flying. I was expecting to fly a pattern, but the tower asked me to do a straight in approach. The rule of 3s is really handy.

    How do you find the runway while flying, I never see the runway in time just when I am too close already and not aligned properly. In addition, what do you do when there are no glide path lights in the airport?

      One trick is to just fly over the field you’re trying to land at first, and then line yourself up for landing. I explain it near the end of this video

      The best option for that is to look into becoming a controller for VATSIM.
