This worked!! All 3 lights (VSC, Trac Off & Check Engine) went out IMMEDIATELY as soon as I started the car, without driving the car. I have an ‘08 Lexus GS350 in case it helps someone to know. Thank you!!
Man the things you can learn on UA-cam. I have a 2007 Chevy Equinox which was given me the code P0455 (large evac leak detected). The only thing I had done was change the gas cap. But still the code came back after erasing the code. I was about to put my vehicle in the shop so they could find the leak. I came across this video. And I was like, 'Yeah right, this not gona work'. But I said, what the heck. I'll give it a try. Got some cling wrap and did the same thing which was done in the video. I wrapped it around my gas cap. I went and started the vehicle. Nope, check engine light still on. So the first thing I thought was, I knew it wouldn't work. Because it seemed like in the video the check engine light went off right away once you started the vehicle. I had some running around to do. So I thought, I'll just leave the wrap on. You never know. I did my running around. And while driving I notice the check engine light was off. I said, would you look at that. That check engine light had been on for about a week. Like I said, the things you can learn on UA-cam.
Gaskets for the fuel cap are available from Toyota for about $4.00. No need to replace the entire fuel cap assembly.
I always go to UA-cam to see how to work on my own car first because the dealership will charge a minimum of $170 where I live for anything. I did what you showed people to do in this video and all my lights went out. Thank you very much. I’m grateful for that.
Glad to help
Went they off immediately, or you drove some km?
Immediately
I have the same problem i will try tomorrow
I’m having the same issue. I will try this. The previous step didn’t work

I spent$280 and that didn’t work, watched your video with plastic wrap and light went out, got a new gas cap and no light. Thank you very much ❤
Glad it helped!
SOLVED! I cleaned my gas cap and that solved it! I am glad you made this video. Than kyou.
Glad it helped!
The starter on my daughters Jeep failed while she was away at college. She did a facetime video with me and I could here the starter turning but not engaging. I had AAA tow it to the nearest Jeep dealer where she goes to school. I called the dealer to tell to replace the starter. After repairing I noticed a $169 diagnostic fee on the bill. I called them and they said they had to verify that it was the starter that had failed and they don't just the the customers word for what the issue is. So they charged me $169 to tell me what I already knew, unbelievable! If my daughter were closer to home I would have just done it myself.
Thanks for this video!!! I had the same issue with my 2008 Sequoia and the gas cap was the fix. I never would have thought of that!
Glad it helped
That worked great!!! My 2007 Tundra was having this issue so I had ordered a new one but in the mean time I wanted to see if someone has a quick temporary fix on youtube .Went off immediately . Thanks so much for posting this. Maybe Ill cancel me new gas cap and just drive around with a box of saran wrap .
Great diagnosis and fix.
Just fixed my sister's Lexus in about 30 seconds thanks to you!

GOD BLESS YOUR PATIENCE, BRAVO MO , BUONASERA
wow, I have done with the plastic wrap and it worked, previously cleaned with a normal cloth, and didn't work after that cleaned with some degreaser, and worked like a charm. Thanks for the video you saved me a lot of money. Did this in a 2007/2008 Kluger/Highlander.
Thank you brother 👍🏼

Thank you for your great tip. My car had the same problem. My car battery was dead due -7 temperature. I jump stared my my car, engine lights VCS Lights, brake waring light and warning light ⚠️ kept on dashboard while engine running. I followed your tips and started the engine again, and all warning lights got off. Thanks again
You are truly blessed with your ability.
Good job buddy 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks, I changed the cap and nothing changed with the various blinking lights that I've been looking at for months. Two days later they went out. Thanks again !
My 2017 Corolla bogged down on me driving up a hill. Check engine light traction control light came on. Got home pissed off, watched your video, unhooked the battery, then cleaned the gasket and gas cap. Don't know which one it was but I was ABSOLUTELY shocked that it worked. Thank you for this video!!!!!!!!!
God Bless you and this video! I just bought an 06 Lexus ES330 and yesterday I hit the gas pedal quite hard and lost engine power and all these lights popped up. I felt devastated not knowing what to do. They turned off but then I did the same thing that night and it happened again. Watched this vid today, went to O’Reilly’s and now I’m all good! Now I get to cancel my mechanic appointment 🙌🏻🤑
Glad it helped
Have an ‘08 Sienna XLE. had all these random misfire codes (VSC) and even would have to shut my van down as the “traction control” light would blink along with the engine light causing the van to lose power and decrease in speed, till I shut it off and restarted it. And that would take care of it for a week or so then back again, usually one the Highway. So off to the shoulder again as the van would slowly lose power and buck and gas be basically unresponsive
Seems like maybe the compression was changing over the 200,000 miles as i started putting premium gas in and the higher octane was the key.. as all the codes went away (once cleared) and never came back. Same spark plugs. I did change one injector (before I switched to premium gas) as it did have that code come up for the number 2. But the check engine lights would still come on. But same spark plugs on all 6 cylinders as those back are just too hard to change without a good reason.
Again premium gas and all my check engine lights and blinking lights are a thing of the past and it’s nice having a dash free of those. (Those lights came on probable a dozen times in the past. But now problem solved for like 9 months now and counting.
So if it returns might try that.
Excellent video
Thank you very much!
Thanks. Added plastic wrap. Unplugged the battery forv5 mins, and it worked.
Thanks for saving me time and money❤
WOW. YOU ARE A VERY INTELLIGENT MA. u DID A GOOD JOB TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. I WILL FOLLOW YOUR INSTRUCTIONS ON MY VAN AS WELL. hOPE IT WILL FIX MINE AS WELL. THANK U
Thank you sir for the information.
Always welcome
Good practical video and sound advice. You are right about the dealers. I cleaned but will now try the saran wrap trick as a test
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks so much that was helpful and cheap. I appreciate this valuable information.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you very much for the help
You're quite welcome
Thank you for your video.
You are welcome
The best video thanks for uploading ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐♥
You're welcome 😊
It's easy to tell whether you need a new gasket for your fuel cap. Turn the cap counter clockwise. After turning 90° then the cap engages the threads, twist off. If you don't feel resistance after the cap engages the threads, you likely have a gasket that needs to be replaced.
Thank's it really helps using the glad wrap
The glad wrap helped me to determine if the gas cap was the issue, and it was. You'll have to watch the video to find out how I fixed it.
I brought a new gas cap but I still have to use glad wrap or the light will not go off what could still be the problem
@@chevygraham4012 filler neck, check valve, charcoal canister, purge or vent solenoids, need smoke test
Thank you!!! New sub. Always thumbs up from the 641... I have those same lights on my 02 Toyota 4Runner.
I had the same lights in my Toyota Sienna several years ago. I cleaned the gas cap, but it took about another hour or so of driving for all the lights to go out. Since then I have done this a few more times, all successfully. The one time I took my vehicle to the dealer to have them check it, they couldn’t figure out what was causing the 3 lights to come on. I told them about how I had cleaned the gas cap with success earlier, and they said, nah that couldn’t fix the problem. They charged me $135 for nothing. I took my Sienna home, cleaned the gas cap, and by the next day, all the lights were out. I could probably use a new gas cap, though.
Great video, thanks! 👍👍
Awesome...very helpful..I changed my waterpump in my 2010 avalon and I started it to check for leaks and no leaks but my engine light is on and traction control..I'm gonna try it..thanks again
I'll be checking the cap today cuz paying boatloads is not in my wheelhouse anymore. 🙏
Omg this just happened to me today right before I had to go out of town. I am doing this. Thank you so much!!!!!!
You got this!
Thank you so much for sharing that really good information, ❤
You are so welcome!
Thanks my guy big help I have a Lexus and video helps a lot most people video just shows u how to clear of which is a joke
Thanks
My wife’s Tacoma had an issue with one of the dash lights staying on, might have been the check engine. Read that a loose/bad gas cap could cause that and I thought that was ridiculous. I decided to look at the gas cap and found that my wife had cross-threaded it back on after getting gas. I removed it and put it back on correctly and it fixed the issue. Lesson learned.
When EVER I take my car to the dealer I always end up with a >$1,000 charge. Always. Will buy my fuel cap at the auto parts store, thank you
Wow, I can't tell you how long I have been screwing around trying to put this 3 light Xmas tree out on my 2004 Highlander. I spent over $200 twice at two different repair shops and they couldn't find the problem. Here's the rub. I told them both times that I had replaced the gas cap so that wasn't the problem. Well it was. When I put the plastic wrap over the filler tube and put my new cap back on the lights were permanently gone. The Advanced Auto store here on Kauai sold me the wrong new cap. thanks for this great video and sharing your knowledge.
My pleasure
Thank you Sir!

Thank you so very much!!
You're welcome!
GREAT VIDEO BRO!!!!
Glad you liked it
I have the same issue but the dealer suggested $2K for new catalytic convertors more than 100K ago. I have been living with the lights on the dash. I will try the new gas cap and hope to have the same results as you. TNANKS
Did it work?
Let me know if it works having the same problem
I've been told the same. Go figure!
Let us know if it worked!
Did it work?
thank you sir ♥
Most welcome!
thxs for this vid....
Thanks!
You are welcome, and thank you.
You're a Clingfilm 🌟 🤩.
Same here, $169 before anything at the Toyota dealer for a blown tail light fuse that I ended repairing myself for only the cost of the replacement: $4.39
Had the same problem with my lexus. Replaced the cap. After a few driving a miles, the lights when out.
I have watched alot of videos. Yours was the first i saw that recommend plastic wrap. I will have to try that to see if it works on mine or not. When i do i hope it works.
Let us know if it worked!
My VSC - TRAC - engine lights was all on same as yours. I followed everything you suggested. I to did not want to deal with those funds at a auto shop.. after getting a code read from my local auto parts store, it turned out I just needed a new gas cap!! After replacing the gas cap and detached the positive battery line everything reset. All my light went off.. I own a Lexus 2005 GX470.. A $16 and patients fix.. THANKs to You!! 😊😊 thanks for your help..
Great! So glad I could be of help friend!
Did it switched off right away?
Havent given this a shot but i know deep down itll work.. its the only possibility. I mess with the pcv light goes out a bit.. i mess with the intake hose light goes out. Next stop is the gas cap
I cleaned my gas cap. I don’t drive my O6 RAV4 much. I only had 1/4 tank full of gas, filled up to a full tank. All the lights went off.
Good sheit
Always glad to see a 'do it yourselfer' find the problem.
The only thing I ever take my car to a shop for is tires and alignments. That's it. Any and everything else, I do myself. I've got all the factory service and parts books for my cars. A laptop with TunerPro and the cable to connect it to the ECM. Very simple OBD1 system. OBD2, not so simple, but the principle is the same. Get the correct cable, and use proper software to find the fault. You can easily find and replace whatever is causing the problem.
On my 05 Sienna I just eased the fuel cap O ring up a tiny bit as it was compressed and bingo lights off.
I didn't think my '07 Lexus ES would have the same problem as my parent's Jeep but your video made it very likely! My cap's not even clicking. I don't get why a stability control and VSC light would come on for things like gas caps and misfires but I guess Toyota/Lexus can't be perfect.
Glad the video was helpful
Push the trip button and turn the key to acc mode and keep holding the trip button to remove maintenance required light
After of course changing the vehicle's oil and oil filter.
I'm try this
@PIN28BF8F52 FYI... I tried this on a 2003 Ford Explorer... Didn't work.
I have the same van and it started doing the same thing when my wife turned it on this morning, I tried sealing the cap better but that didn’t turn the lights off,
Thank you! You helped me save $$. Solved my issue with code po441, po455, and po456 on my 2013 Toyota RAV4
You're welcome!
I did Buy A new gas cap that did not work, I disconnected the battery, my lights for service engine AWD turned off .Thank you
It happened to me, I disconnect both battery cables waited 10 minutes and connected them back and same lights went away❤
I had this problem with my Toyota made vehicle (Lexus ES350) and tightened the fuel cap made my light go out but I had to drive it around for a little while before the light went out.
this is exactly what we are going through with our car. Did the light come back on at a later date? My husband has a diagnostic tool also called an OBD scanner, that shows an error code and steps to reset it, however, eventually it lights up again. He's going to check the gas cap since we have never replaced it since owning it as a used vehicle 7 yrs ago. I get blamed for the darn light coming on every time I drive it and I'm sick of it and the driving around crap to solidify a maybe its fix or not is getting old. If you don't fix it in Texas you can't pass a yearly inspection.
No the lights never came back on. I hope a new gas cap fixes it for you.
Whatching you build the Chickhen run you said how tired you become your not alone my friend we just can't do what we used too do. I'm finding that out . I had a firewood bussness for 7 years cut split and delivered 2 cord a day alone . now I cut a cord that's it for the day I'm now 75 but I say you do more that most people half your age.
I have a 2007 v6 3.3l highlander and my VSC light, trac light, and check engine light all came on at the same time. I did a scan at Autozone and got a P0430 code. I was about to get a new catalytic converter. I decided to put the cling wrap on before the cap and I unplugged the positive terminal for 5 mins. After reconnecting the battery and starting the car, all the lights were gone!!
Mine had the same symptoms BUT it would only idle and not rev up when I pressed the accelerator (limp mode?). I disconnected neg battery terminal for 10 minutes, reconnected it and now my Forerunner won't start at all. Did all the tricks for the gas cap, but I'm stranded at my house so I can't get another gs cap- seems like something more complicated than a gas cap for my issue.
Good job, also check for pitting on the fuel neck filler and sand mildly with 200+ grt paper. My only question is...WHY is your 4R not holding the oil.? That should be your next Immediate resolve.
Maybe PCV valve
i have a cadillac cts 2006 i think i have the same problem with the gas cap, i will try
I have a 2016 Corolla and I had both of my CV axles changed. When I picked it up from the shop I noticed that both my engine light and the trac off light were on. I thought maybe the mechanic damaged the abs wire or something. I was also almost on empty so I stopped yesterday and filled the car up and today my lights are off and now my cruise control works again. I guess I need to get a new gas cap. It's just weird that the lights weren't on when I dropped the car off but when I picked it up they were. Oh well, easy fix.
My issue ended up being an ignition coil causing the vsv and traction and cel. Check if you have a code
Great video, quick question: does the oil fill cap and dipstick also require a perfect seal? Could a bad fit also trigger a 'check engine light' in addition to a gas cap?
Did you disconnect the Negative side while the engine was still running? I could not see that from the video.
Thank you
From Toronto Can.
Not sure about the oil cap, this video is about the gas cap being faulty. Disconnecting the battery can sometimes work but is usually a temporary fix.
It’s possible, I’ve seen a customer light go on because the oil dipstick wasn’t pushed all the way down
I don’t think so
