Gimmick. Way too big for a phone, and much too expensive.
Really appreciate your review. A true influencer that understands what reviews are about. Disappointed about other creators using words like trash to describe the Duo and other devices without understanding the lengths companies and by extension the teams who worked years in most cases to develop and bring a product to the market. I am yet to get my unit to unbox and review on my channel and very much still exciting about the possibilities with the understanding about what Microsoft is trying to achieve especially by not saying that the Surface Duo is not a phone. Props again keep up the good work 👍🏽
One thing for sure is that what separates you from other unboxers is that you do not skip the setup process. Love the good work. KEEP IT UP!!!😁👍👍

I really like how you actually showed the device in action. I see the slowness and issues firsthand. Other reviewers just mentioned all of the software bugs so thanks for actually giving the viewer the ability to see them too. I love the look of the phone and I really hope they get all these bugs figured out. It is a unique phone and I applaud them for doing something different.

Great comprehensive review and overview. It would seem the dividing of thickness by two has limited the cameras and other internals. The technology may miniaturize complementing its format but cameras appear to be going the opposite direction.

Very nice and comprehensive review Aaron! I think Surface Duo is very interesting but after watching some reviews including yours, the device seems not really ready and worth for it's price at this moment.
Not so sure about a dual screen phone yet. Not sold on them yet, but their definitely interesting. I wonder what the battery life will be like? 🤔
A lot of reviews on UA-cam have been with not the latest software update, that was pushed out on the 5th September, it would be great if reviewers stated if they have done the updates, and that includes application updates from Google Play Store, I pre-ordered one and looking forward to receiving it Downunder, I had to import one, but I love Surface gear, and I have no doubt I'll like the Duo👍thanks for the video
I feel like this review kinda makes me want the duo more and more for some reason. I do agree that the software isn't that good and buggy but honestly I would use it as a daily driver because I don't take pictures to film that much videos to be honest. The price is too steep expecting that the speakers are bad, the camera is bad, no nfc, and no wireless charging. But overall its alright.
Glad to know it does have vision settings.
I'm guessing you would turn Talkback on by pressing the volume-up and volume-down keys?
Please do visit the "Accessibility" section of the device if ya can. As both a blind/visually impaired Android and iOS user, I would be quite interested in what settings in regards to vision it has (even if it doesn't apply to ya.)

I think it's a fantastic 1st Gen device. I accept that it has several serious shortcomings, some of which may be improved by s/w updates. We now need a 2nd gen device but that'll be a year away. If necessary at the same sort of price as the GZFold2 in order to afford THE BEST kit. Definitely needs a better camera and more RAM. Others have suggested an outside screen but I'd be prefer the current layout. The size of the bezels doesn't bother me. I can imagine a 2nd Gen device (as suggested) would trounce the GZFold2.

I get none of this lag. Received mine today, so maybe the update fixed this? Only issue all day was that it froze once.
Really nice review - I still say it's a solution looking for a problem. Too expensive, too slow.
With them already using specs that are a year old, I somehow have doubts on that 3 years of updates. I don’t even know if it’s a good idea.
Just purchased I’m in the uk for a bargain £349+ updated to android 12L
This is very much a first generation product, work in progress. Though I enjoyed your review I wish the focus was on it as a productivity tool. What's they keyboard experience, how are apps like Outlook and Word etc on it. Even something basic like how do answer calls, does the shell have to be open etc. Unless on your review models Microsoft have disabled apps. Microsoft still has a lot of work to do, hope they perceiver but their track record on this sort of thing is patchy to say the least.
I just wonder how much extra work it would take for developers to optimize apps for all the different types of dual screen devices.
I hear the build quality on a lot of units is bad, the inners are busting out ? Is that true?
Well, i will noy but this device just because its too expensive for me but the hardware is gorgeous! Looks so slick! ...i hope all the issues are just softtware issues and can be fixed by updates :)
My initial impressions, I like it! Now I am up in age, so maybe I just missed it, but I didn't see Google Assistant or any other voice assistant on the screens. I would love to move away from Apple, but voice assistant and fluid notetaking are the critical factors for me.

Agree. This I feel is the first device Microsoft has released with old tech. I was really disappointed when I heard about the hardware they decided to go with. The dual screen is cool but really would have loved to see better hardware.
I would just use the $1399 in Microsoft stocks then buying the Duo

That is interesting about Microsoft trying to make their own smart phone again. Hopefully thanks get better and they can become more competitive with Apple and Samsung. However, I am stuck with Apple. I will not leave for another software or smart phone manufacturer. iOS is very smooth and user-friendly.
Even the packaging was not ready. Microsoft, please...PLEASE fix this device. Its so bad!
I feel the packaging is good. It comes with a case and it comes with a nice charger and cable. Its what you expect for a 1st generation product. Some of the bugs can be fixed with a software update but I agree that the phone is not ready, only the hardware is (some).
The whole device seems like a joke. I still can’t believe it comes with android!

Considering the insane price, it's not worth buying now for such a kinda out-dated hardware specs and the incomplete software. But I'm looking forward to see the next gen. Hoping there could be a huge leap in the next gen.

I really like the concept of this device, as well as the way it's built (except the bezels - they are too large), but the software is a HUGE deal-breaker right now. And the price, of course.
Don't mind to have it as my second phone, mostly using it at home, but not for $1400. It doesn't worth more that $400 considering all these software problems. If I am going to spend that much mony I go with Fold2.

When it comes to video, I agree. Some of the photos I actually thought we’re better than note because they were more natural looking. However, for the price it should be better.

There would not be market for the 2nd gen if the Bezels were thin.
Companies do this on purpose, such as Apple with the notch.
Mic on video picked up the echoes in the room. Not like your clear precise professional mic. I’m sure it’s the way any other in device mic would sound. Guess you’ll have to compare other devices instead to get a real good idea of just how good it is.

Thanks for making the investment for us Aaron. That said, this is a weird way to say "Sorry, we're too dumb to innovate but we're too dumb to make single pane folding screens and everybody ever wanted a half inch split smack down the middle of the screen anyways". This is exactly why Apple doesn't ship stuff until it's ready.
microsoft has STILL not figured out the camera ... i bought their first and second tablet pc's and those cameras were terrible ... that drove me to the iphone and iPad ... i still do not have to look back ... sad

I love how positive you are in this video, pointing out the few good points the device has but honestly I don't think anybody should buy this! Great review as always Aaron!
LG or bigger smartphone company should make this type of product, i can see them making a much user experience, it's quite ironic how one of the world biggest software company can't make a good user experience, doesn't matter if they use android or not they should've iron out the rough laggy software experience at least

Imo I never buy first gen product. Guessing price will drop a lot. Cameras in this Arleen to be a mess, as are the bezels. Second gen will have to have smaller bezels and back camera
Nice video presentation as usual, but Microsoft ! Thinking surface RT and windows phones being abandoned and Android not windows so slow updates and how long for ?, does not sell to expectations quickly abandoned we have been here before Kin and RT, and the price trying to do an 🍏 and not the latest specification, Not a mini surface but a micro one, should be stocked by Toys R us.

Think you are being too polite during the video Aaron, as MKBHD said in his initial video on this last week - they only let us see the hardware first because the software was so poor - he was right - so many times during this video I was shaking my head - I cannot believe this made it to market - it should of been redefined and ship when ready - the software does act like it should. - like you said plenty of times in the video
