    Hi,I'm working for the company who invented lexan(before we were sold) and actually over 32 years in lexan sheet & film manufacturing.I suggest finish your drillholes on both sides by milling the edges with a much large drill a bit.Then putting vibration dampers & metalwashers with laminated rubber under teh sealing cap of your bolts.All to prevent cracks.

    if you ever redo the windows start in one corner and evenly work your way out that will stop the plastic from distorting which is creating your ripple effect, liked the idea of using plasti dip though much better than regular paint

    Cut vacuum hose down the center and slide it over the edges like a trim peice for a water tight seal and clean up edges of the lexan .
    Use a heat gun to make the lexan hold its curves & shape permanently .

    • @MyLonewolf25
      @MyLonewolf25 7 років тому

      Mark Rich relief cuts and them go back over them with clear acrylic adhesive they use for fish tanks also works
      But you also have to be careful with heat and do it evenly
      Quite frankly leaving it under a tight fitting black tarp on a hot sunny day will help a lot
      As well as just relaxing over time

    look into GE Makrolon AR3 . much better material for longevity , scratch resistance, and shatter resistance, lower grade home depot lexan will shatter like un tempered glass. no good. for the ripples , you can put some heat into it and relieve it some. also bully dog adhesion promoter will let you paint the perimeter and itll last. just clear the painted area. really dig this channel . only watched a bit, but appreciate his / your effort. just outboard with the hardware you can also instead of the silicone , use a one side adhesive weather strip meant for a door etc . just remember to use long pieces on top edges so rain cant get in , and maybe silicone just joined edges for vertical pieces .

    • @styleslider400
      @styleslider400  9 років тому +1

      +twistymcslide2 i did think of weather strip halfway through putting the silicone on the car lol oh well..
      but i would have to order some rubber stripping as car shop's only hold the cheap foam stuff this lexan is pretty good very strong.
      it's not like the acrylic plastic that can break easy if this is what your refering to. cheers for the comment

    Just want to say, I love all your videos. Definitely gives me more faith in my CA18 build. But just saying, you know they make lexan windows already for the 180sx. Just seems like a lot of work instead of spending $180 usd for windows, lol. But I guess if you do everything yourself, all that money adds up! Keep up the good work, I'm still checking in on these vids. Thanks for the tips on the nut insert tool, I'm definitely going to purchase one now.

    I think if you used a heat gun you could have gotten the desired flat look (no waves) you were looking for. How you would do it I'm not sure. I guess start with your corner bolt heat it up, shape it and then mark, drill, and bolt it in. But nice job it looks great.

  • @MyLonewolf25
    @MyLonewolf25 7 років тому

    You really need to put relief cuts that you later go back with something like acrylic adhesive o something like that after final bolt up and fit that way it's WAY easier to bend and manipulate and won warp as much

  • @_juan2k
    @_juan2k 8 років тому

    Try starting at the smallest corner and work you mr way to the widest path. V shaped cross pattern. Top rail then bottoms rail back up again it will eliminate the waves

  • @ratgreen
    @ratgreen 9 років тому +1

    Awesome. Any reason why you didnt heat them up? I feel if you ran over the windows with a heatgun bit by bit it would have relieved some of the stress and ripples.

    • @styleslider400
      @styleslider400  9 років тому

      +ratgreen on my last window's they were a pain to get them to bend just a little bit,
      i had 2 heat guns on them flat out and i had to bend the window's so much just to get a small amount of the window to bend as i found out lexan has a lot of spring back,
      on the old window's they got that hot when i done this some of the plastic bubbled (starting to melt) so with this much heat needed and trying to hold the window in vice to get a crazy amount of bending going on just to watch it all spring back almost straight was not fun,
      so running a heat gun even bolted to the car wont do a great deal
      they also left a lot of stretch marks in the plastic where they did bend where the heat was applied on the window and i didn't want to do this again
      so i really could not be botherd in heating these windows up and trying to bend them again as you have to take the protective layer off and a nice chance to scratch them up and put stretch mark effect's in the plastic itself
      so this time i just used thin lexan and how ever it bolted to the car i was happy with that knowing the hassles from the last attempt this was much more enjoyable to do lol
      i hope over time and being in the sun that they might relax a little bit.cheers

    Can you teach me how to make my ca18det run so i dont have to hate it all the time XD it starts but wont go over 3-4000 rpm stock everything except fuel pump, exhaust and intercooler, i've checked injectors maf and spark plugs countless times, it gets fuel and spark..

    • @styleslider400
      @styleslider400  8 років тому +1

      does the engine break down at those rpm's or it just wont go higher then those rpm's. find out your fuel pressure at those rpm's when the engine cant rev any higher, ca18 do have butterflies in there stock inlet manifold they need to open up at full throttle if they don't your engine is only sucking air through 1 of the 2 inlet valves per cylinder.

    • @styleslider400

      +Chris Duke i am using is a autronic smc ecu, it's just going to be a matter of fine tuning the spring pressures on the actuator and wategate's hopefully i have them close to where they need to be going by calculations but real world test will probably change that.

      had a break from the car after another dyno fail, the twin turbo setup did not work which was a shame after all the work that went into it, and i have almost finished making a new single turbo manifold for the car there will be a update video when i finish making it.

    • @ELDIESTRODIY
      @ELDIESTRODIY 8 років тому

      +styleslider400 sorry to hear that the turbo setup looks so promising which part don't work my friend was a awsome to watch the process .

    • @styleslider400
      @styleslider400  8 років тому

      all the exhaust pipe work was to big in "pipe volume" i would say that
      all of the turbo manifold pipe work would have held at least 15 liters minimum
      of air and my engine is under 2 liters so you can compare this like a
      air compressor tank being oversized and taking to long to build pressure
      in the tank while you have a turbo venting all that air out into the
      exhaust the engine just could not catch up to build exhaust back
      pressure. this was something i was not aware of at the time when i was building it all.
      so i have taken the knowledge that i have learned from this mistake and while still wanting to make a turbo setup come on boost quickly after all the time wasted on the twin setup
      i have almost finished building a variable volume turbo manifold for a single turbo with a twin scroll exhaust housing with correct pipe sizing this time.

    The twin turbo setup didnt work? The sequential staying or you juts gonna do parallel, or single turbo?

    • @styleslider400
      @styleslider400  8 років тому

      sorry yea i was meant to say that the sequential didn't work, im going back with a single turbo but i have made a single turbo manifold that replicates the concept of what a sequential turbo setup is suppose to do to the exhaust pressure in the turbo manifold.

    • @shutthehellup6666
      @shutthehellup6666 8 років тому

      What exactly went wrong with sequential setup? Running lean?

    • @styleslider400
      @styleslider400  8 років тому

      due to good old lack of knowledge, the pipe work on the turbo manifold was oversized with the pipe diameter vs cylinder head port diameter and the amount of air volume in the manifold was to much for a little 2L engine so this prevented me not being able to build any pressure in the turbo manifold to make boost.
      not a fun day.

    • @shutthehellup6666
      @shutthehellup6666 8 років тому +1

      Shit happens. You still got mad respect from a lot of us. Not too many people would even attempt to build a completely custom sequential turbo setup. It takes a fair amount of pen and paper noodling to get a design that will work (somewhat) flawless first go
