    Extra Pro tip: Have an accent. Here in Texas I don't have one so I had to polish more but this worked on my Jaguar F-Type windshield to remove scratches and a chemical stain that would not come off any other way. I tried everything and I had to use Cerium Oxide on a wool pad in a way this video described and it worked. Took two hours and going over it multiple times. But it worked.

      Pro tip: in the absence of an accent, drink a can, or preferably a pint, of Guiness. It is a well known fact that this imbues the drinker with instant elevated levels of Irishness, and thus speeds up the process considerably

      We don't have a video on the rear window, however, we have one on a side window, the process is the same. In most cars, the heated element for rear windows is embedded within the layers of the glass, not on the outer surface, and if that's the case then the kit is safe to use.

      For this purpose, we recommend using our high grade cerium oxide or gp-pro glass polishing compound with a felt polishing pad. If the water stains are stubborn, you may need to use a two-stage abrasive process first to break down the deposits before moving on to polishing stage.

    I used it on CRT Monitor Glass and it got the big scratches out but now I have a bunch of hairline scratches that i cant feel with my nail that create this shimmer on brighter colors. Any idea how to get these out? More polishing appears to be making it worse not better and I even used the second polishing pad.

    • @GlassPolishShop
      @GlassPolishShop  Рік тому +1

      It seems that the polishing process is highlighting the existing hairline scratches. This can happen when the compound penetrates the tiny scratches, making them more visible.
      • Before proceeding with the polishing stage, it's crucial to ensure that all scratches are adequately removed. Spend extra time with the blue GlasX60 abrasive, focusing on achieving a nice, uniform haze across the area without any visible scratches.
      • Once you have achieved a uniform haze without visible scratches, proceed to the polishing stage.

Is there a specific grit sandpaper I can use to remove the abrasion? I started off with a few deep scratches, now I'm left with a big square abrasive haze!

      Hi, You need to use the blue abrasive a lot more! If you have a hazy area after polishing it is more than likely you have not used the blue pad enough and still have marks left over from the green. If you have used the blue twice as long as the green it should polish up straight away.

    I'm curious about the optic distorsion seeing through the glass and sideway, how important is it ?

    • @GlassPolishShop
      @GlassPolishShop  Рік тому +5

      When using the abrasive pads is where you can create a distortion in the glass. You have to be mindful not to concentrate on one specific are for too long and try to use a bigger are to smooth it out on the rest of the pane. staying on one spot will create a dish like distortion and using too much of the edge of the backing pad will make it bounce on the glass causing ripple effect. Done properly there should be no distortion looking head on through the glass. Even with some tempered/toughened glass there is some natural distortion looking sideways on at the glass it also depends on how much damage you are removing and how deep the damage is.

      Will this kit work on car windshields?

    • @southbayclearvue
      @southbayclearvue 8 місяців тому +1

      To help with optic distortion, make sure to keep the grinding discs as flat as possible. Keep heat to a minimum. Bellow 120 degrees Fahrenheit would be best.
      To keep the grinding disks as flat as possible, it is best to use larger discs and a machine that is not a drill. A automotive type polisher is best for this as you can place your hand flat on the head of the polisher to hold the grinder on the glass, being careful not to press too hard. Let the abrasive do its job, pressing too hard will make it dig unevenly into the glass.
      Another tip to avoid distortion is to keep the glass clean and dry. There is no need to touch the glass as he did, use an inferred thermometer to check temp. The oils from your hand will make the grinding disc slip thus leaving a high spot where you touched it. Also, hot glass and cold water is a recipe for broken glass.
      Lastly, instead of only doing side to side motions while grinding, also do up and down motions. Alternating each time you go over the repair area. Always step out the repair area half the width of the grinding disc each time you do a pass.
      Hope this helps! 😊

      In general no there is nothing else that could go wrong, if you are working on laminated or float glass then you should keep the temperature in check because overheating can cause it to crack, as long as you follow the step by step instructions and take your time you will be fine. If you mean a manufactures coating on the glass then in a double glazed unit the coating is inside the glazed unit so there will be no problem with that. If there is an after market window film on the glass then it has to be removed before any repair can be done.@@TimHarrison1

      Thank you for your enquiry. Yes of course you can use this product and technique on ceramic glass cooker tops, the only thing to watch out for is the plate ring marks because if they are painted on the top of the hob as opposed to the underside they can easily be removed due to the abrasive nature of this kit.
      Should you have any doubts or require further assistance please don' hesitate to contact us.

    • @GlassPolishShop
      @GlassPolishShop  Рік тому

      Hi,
      • Look for any markings on the glass itself. Manufacturers often label windows to indicate if they have special coatings. This information is typically found in one of the corners of the glass.
      • Examine the window glass closely. Some coatings, like Low-E (Low Emissivity) coatings, may not be visible to the naked eye. However, if there's a reflective or tinted appearance to the glass, it might indicate the presence of a coating.
