Not many reactors notice just how low Tim goes after his solo and they all come back in. Tim Foust has a crazy range; it totals 5 octaves and he can also sing high tenor parts, too.
Tim really is unreal, like you said the part after the long note he was pointing out there's an even lower note to just be the bass for the next verse/phrase. He does it again and again and like you said can sing great tenor as well.
When I think of a bass singer with Elvis I think about the guy who was singing on the 'then sings my soul' song that they used to cover. There's a couple of really cool low parts. And the live version from like 67 is so good.
I gotta say that the trees in the background are Live Oak trees that grow along the coastal regions from North Carolina down to Florida and along the Gulf Coast to Louisiana and Texas a bit . Live Oak trees live for many centuries and usually have Spanish Moss hanging from their limbs . Very spooky in the fog of the nighttime in the marshes and swamplands.
There’s a video of them doing Your Man and Tim goes so low he blows up the sound system. Also try him with Peter Hollens and their version of Misty Mountain from the Hobbit, as for the beatboxer there’s a video of him doing a Drum Solo from which they call him a freak of nature.
I put this video on their discord...but they seem to want to watch live stuff which I was trying to show them...daz points out pentatonix....but they do the same thing.....studio versions and live are always different all are greats...and even ring of fire ft. alvi
My favorite group...I'll have to become a patron & break out the wallet for these guys...they are amazing !!! The real deal, are genuine & humble dudes with a shit load of talent !
Bass singers are a special breed. Check out the covers of either "sixteen tons" or "take me home country roads" by Geoff Castellucci. You won't be disappointed.
Hey guys. There are videos on YT of Adam Rupp (the beat boxer) titled adam rupp drum solo. Check that out. Just amazing that the drums, bass, harmonica and Jews Harp were all done vocally. They have a ton of videos on YT of lots of different genres. Some are more character driven and others (like this one) are just about the vocal performance. Dive in to more. Think you'll be glad you did.
This song was featured in that movie but was not where it originated. This song is a very very old American Folk Song. The originator/creator of this song is unknown. It was first published in 1913, but it was old at that time & had been passed from musician to musician for generations before that. Came from the Kentucky/Tennessee country hills area - not from the deep South.
Home Free is crazy talented. They have so many songs. You may have picked songs that aren’t your style. Obviously, Man of Constant Sorrow is based on the original from over 100 years ago and also from O Brother Where Art Thou. It’s an old fashioned country song. Elvira was sung 40 years ago by the Oak Ridge Boys. Home Free’s collaboration with them was excellent but again a country song. There are many other types of genres they sing. They are primarily a country band but sing gospel, pop, R & B too. If you love harmonies try Helplessly Hoping, Seven Bridges Road. They also have a great sense of humor and aren’t afraid to be funny.
Yes, but they need to do Unchained Melody before WAMLAW. Doing things in order will give them an idea of the growth HF goes through. Anyway they're a bit passive as reactors for my taste, but glad I checked them out. I do enjoy reactions from a musical point of view (performer/ coach) a lot.
For “listenability”, try Seven Bridges Road (originally by The Eagles). For video storytelling, try Home Free’s mashup of Let’s Get It On (Marvin Gaye) and Thinking Out Loud (Ed Sheeran) or, if you just want a chuckle, try The Butts Remix :)
The Elvis backup singer Mike is referring to is Richard Sterban, the bass singer from the Oak Ridge Boys, with whom Home Free performed Elvira. It’s SO good.
If you want to see just how talented this group is, react to "Mayday" (mind blowing) and "Blue Ain't Your Color". For their humor check out "Butt Remix" and "Quarantine". Home Free is definitely my favorite accapella group.
@@Tribblepuppy Your probably right. I'm not sure they are going to go down the rabbit hole to learn just how talented these guys are, although I hope I'm wrong.
History of "Man of Constant Sorrow" from Second Hand Songs: "Printed in the book 'Songs Sung By R. D. BURNETT. The blind man', Monticello, Kentucky. Burnett is generally considered the author of the song, although he himself wasn't so sure about it. In a 1973 interview, he said: 'I think I got it from somebody... I dunno, it may be my song...' The composition year could be the same as the publication year, judging from the line: 'Oh, six long years I've been blind, friends' (Burnett was blinded in 1907.) More famous under the title 'Man of Constant Sorrow'." First recording in 1928 by Emry Arthur. Others of note to record it: Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Waylon Jennings, Alison Krauss, Rod Stewart, Judy Collins, and Dwight Yoakam. Each one put their own spin on it. Personally, I prefer Home Free's version over Soggy Bottom Boys. The rich, full harmonies of HF combined with the beatboxing of Adam Rupp and jaw harp by Chance make this rendition number 1, in my book.
I feel honored to listen to these great artists! Such talent...genius! Of course I mean Home Free, not the soggy britches boys ...the ones doing the review!
The big difference between Home Free & Pentatonix is PX leans mostly to Pop music and Glam and HF is mostly Country music and home town based. It is hard to really compare them since both music genres are so different. (By the way, those that are Home Free followers are called "Home Fries".) Both groups crossover genres occasionally with great success usually. A Pentatonix artist has even joined Home Free in a cover of a classic country song by the great Mr. Johnny Cash. It was great! Check it out.
Try their Sea Shanty Medley, The Butts Medley, Folsom Prison Blues, Blue Aint your color, Diamond Dreams, Hillbilly Bone, I could keep going but there are a few to get you started.
You should next check out "End of the Road." Get about five videos under your belt before watching "Mayday," or you won't appreciate it. "Butts Remix" will show you their fun side.
The man you were talking about that dang with Elvis was JD Summer of the Stamps Quartet. He is in the Guiness book as the lowest note sung by a human. He was a member of the Sountern Gospel community for years before his passing. Love yalls reactions guys!! Keep up the good work!
@ Victor Waddell you are right about the Live Oak trees. I'm from South Georgia and there are lots of them here. This was filmed in Southern Louisiana!😃🍟
Yes, this song doesn't have a proper "chorus" but it does have a "call and response". Most of the Appalachian mountain people didn't read or write. If you watch "Coal Miners Daughter", the preacher at her father's funeral would call out the first line of the hymn (in the movie it was Amazing Grace) and the congregation would call back with those same words in song.
I just subscribed!! Welcome to HOME FREE HOME FREE is a county A Capella band that does more than country. Tim Foust, the bass, Adam Rupp, the beatboxer, Adam Chance (Chance) is the baritone/bass, since 2016, he took over for Chris Rupp (one of the founders of the group), Rob Lundquist, tenor and Austin Browm high tenor make up the voices of angels. PLEASE listen to more.. If I know my Home Free family well (Home Fries) , they have already given you suggestions of music. LOL Thanks for the reaction
Home Free is super talented and definitely has their own niche. In comparison to other a cappella groups like PTX, I believe having that female voice (or voices if you add Mitch) just adds so much to the harmonies. Again, totally a personal preference. Thanks for another enjoyable reaction.
Just an interesting fact about this song. It’s actually much older than the movie ,Oh Brother where art thou. If I’m not mistaken it’s from the early 1900’s. So over 100 years old.
So, let's go down the homefree rabbit hole it's endless. Harmonies I would do the songs We all want what we ain't got an Hopelessly Helping. Humor Butts Remix. Just flat out awesome song Sea Shantys is great. Bass crazy Ring of Fire and Misty Mountains. I got more just can think of all of them lol
I suspect the guy with his hands in front of his face mimicking tunes is a professional harmonica player and using his hand to manipulate the sound it's producing, or he's a professional bird caller...
Try their cover of "9 to 5" by Dolly Parton. For vocal harmonies, their version of the old hymn "How Great Thou Art" can't be beat. You really owe it to yourselves to try these out.
The low bass with Elvis was JD Sumner and the Stamps. When Elvis was doing the gospel thing. If you want to hear proper bass singing look into him. I would also recommend Tim Riley with Gold City.
I’m a huge fan of Home Free & this is no doubt a fantastic rendition of this song but I’m old school w my bluegrass, there’s a strange lack of fiddle, mandolin & banjo that just hits my ear wrong & messes w me head. @@NewEnglandboy453, yes, sir, ride or die Creek Squad. But, I am also a singer and appreciate the a cappella scene.
Love Home Free. Their music has a way of just making you feel good.
Exactly! Truth!
The bass who sang with Elvis is the bass from the Oak Ridge Boys, who sang w/ Home Free in the Elvira video.
Richard Sturban was indeed a bass singer with Elvis but I believe bass singer J D Sumner and The Jordaniares were the primaries backing Elvis
When I think of a bass singer with Elvis I think about the guy who was singing on the 'then sings my soul' song that they used to cover. There's a couple of really cool low parts. And the live version from like 67 is so good.

JD Sumner... he was freakishly low and sang with Elvis.
JD SUMNER was the one who sang with Elvis. His nephew Ronnie Sumner later sang with Elvis too.
There’s a video of them doing Your Man and Tim goes so low he blows up the sound system. Also try him with Peter Hollens and their version of Misty Mountain from the Hobbit, as for the beatboxer there’s a video of him doing a Drum Solo from which they call him a freak of nature.

Tim Foust doesn't just sing bass. He also can sing in the range of a second tenor. His vocal range is off the charts...
The Butts Remix to see Home Free’s goody side. Helplessly Hoping to see amazing harmonies.

The beat boxer Adam was 2x world champion. The lead in this is the singer that went real high in Elvira.

This is a modern version of an old Southern folk song by a blind musician named Dick Burnett from the 1920s
The bass singer who used to sing with Elvis was JD Sumner. Classic, pure bass like Tim Foust of Home Free
Yes! Elvis had a fellow in his backup band whose voice was so low that is was hard for the radio to pick it up!
