This my first video of yours I’m watching… And you, sir, easily gained a follower. You appreciate music enough that you know when it’s the best time to stop, and you respect the craft enough that you didn’t want to stop during the solo. You gave deadly input on things only drummers pick up on and explain it to the regular folk like me. 11/10 Greyson reaction.
He’s definitely 1 of my favorite younger drummers. As a musician, I seem to be drawn to drummers that have a jazz background. For example, Jimmy Chamberlin from the Smashing Pumpkins and The Jimmy Chamberlin Complex. Also, Danny Carrey from Tool.
Brother, no disrespect to Jimmy Corgan and James Iha, it's just that when Jimmy Chamberlin began playing in a recent concert with The Smashing Pumpkins he stood out as the best musician on stage. He was very impressive. It was a "Wow" instantly.
@jarvisjeb….touching upon a couple of moments where you noticed Greyson ‘slipped up’…….you are absolutely spot on in your analysis! Like you, I too am a professional drummer. When, on the occasion that an ‘error’ occurs when I play (generally at live venues) and for whatever reason it has happened, we react instinctively having already internalised tempo or pulse for any piece of music which we play. It’s the ‘go to’ escape route. I call it the ‘recovery method’! And yes, it’s something that a well-versed drummer can use to get straight back into the groove….by doubling or tripling up on a beat or combination of beats or even a phrase, and then use what you’ve just created out of necessity to jump back into where you had earlier left off. And the chances are very high that no one outside (or maybe inside the band!) will have noticed as being in any way a fuck-up, but will appreciate that particular move as being part of the drummer’s creative package in that song!! What do you think?
I love that you drew attention to the areas where something went "wrong" and how he recovers and keeps it going. Nobody does that in reaction videos! I think there is a fear that the viewers might think the reactor is criticizing or trying to pretend like they know better than the performer. Obviously, that's not the case (at least, not here).
I'm new to Greyson and drums because of the movie whiplash (only watched through the holidays 2022). This is the best reaction video I've ever watched. I've subscribed and will be watching more.
There was a lot of Buddy Rich but I think there there was a bit of Steve Gadd in there as well. Either way, this young man is amazing. Can only imagine how good he’s going to be in a few more years.
This phrase is thrown around a lot, but this young man in my humble opinion was born to play the drums!! I have been playing for 62 years and touring for the last 45 years I've only used that phrase 3 times. My last word on this you man will be DAAAAAAMMMMMNNNN!!
He man, I need to tell you him much I appreciate your musical analysis. I watch a fair amount of drum reaction videos and came across Greyson today for the first time (despite seeing him pop up for a while). Your view is the best reactions I’ve seen. Well done!! I too am a musician, not a drummer though. I’ve played this song a million times with quite a few incredible and legendary drummers. This kid is insane. For sure. Buddy. Gene. Blakey. Payne. All of those cats. Attention to tradition. Wynton will likely snatch him up. Either him or the Basie band. Keep it up.👍🏻🤘🏻
Thanks for the commentary. Loved the shout out to Sonny Payne and I'm glad to know he hasn't been forgotten. Had the chance to see him with Illinois Jacquet at a club outside Boston in the 70's. I saw some great drummers back then playing more adventurous music - guys like Alphonse Mouzon with McCoy Tyner, Al Foster with Miles, Billy Cobham with Mahavishnu, and Don Moye solo and with the Art Ensemble of Chicago - but I always thought Sonny Payne played the best drum solo I ever saw doing straight ahead jazz with Illinois Jacquet. Also that night a little drummer girl named Terri Lyne Carrington sat in with them and played an impressive solo while the band hung out off to the side. I still remember the look she shot them when she wanted them to come back and how those old cats jumped to attention. lol I thought I should remember this kid's name because it looked like she was going to be something special when she grew up.
Compared to another drummer's YT channel analyzing this video of Grayson's, you, my man, have a LOT more insight, knowledge and commentary going on. Night and Day difference. Appreciate your reflections and data here. New subscriber.
I found out about Greyson during rando-browsing, watching Whiplash stuff, people reacting to various scenes etc. And while i gotta admit that i don't even listen to (or actually like) most types of jazz, watching this dude play, and even watching you react to him was an amazing experience. :-)
This movie Whiplash brought back a style and Era of playing that had been lost to time. But now I'm seeing so many covers of Caravan (which is not an easy drum piece by any means.
He may have a lot of buddy rich but he definitely has some Bonham too 😉 Added thought….this guys SO good I think even Ginger Baker mighta liked him!! 😂😂😂
Check out a drummer from the band 311 named Chad Sexton. They've been around since the late 80's and have incorporated his drum solos with the whole band at their live shows now. He's one of my favorites
Grayson has it, hands-down with jazz drums. He is phenomenal and smooth! Please do a reaction video to any videos with Elesteoario Siberiano! Dude with blow your mind! @drummingwithJarvis
Jazz is MUCH more complicated than El Espario. El stays in his lane. He plays songs which are not very complicated at all snails pace. Jazz at a snails pace is extremely complicated. Sorry - charts don’t lie
For some reason this makes me think of Jinjer - a metal band from Ukraine, quite popular with reactors on youtube. Their drummer, Vlad, is excellent, and apparently self-taught. All of them are awesome musicians. Most people get introduced to Jinjer with their song Pisces (you'll find out why if you react to it :p); other great songs are for example Teacher teacher, and Vortex. Completely different genre and style, but also great. Would recommend reacting.
Awesome, thank you so much for presenting him to is. Love your reaction & thoughts. I would like to recommend a piece of art to you, I am sure you‘ll like. I won‘t tell you more but the name for not to spoiler: Orphaned Land - Freedom.
Greyson's a great drummer (much better than me) but, I think due to youth, he massively overplays. A little calmness and subtlety wouldn't come amiss. Maybe as he ages it'll calm down.
Doesn't matter if you like the music or not. Watching a master perform their art will ALWAYS be enchanting

Same here

Absolutely !!! all great drummers for sure!
If you like jazz drummers...Larnell Lewis is your man.
Brother, no disrespect to Jimmy Corgan and James Iha, it's just that when Jimmy Chamberlin began playing in a recent concert with The Smashing Pumpkins he stood out as the best musician on stage. He was very impressive. It was a "Wow" instantly.
The solo is just pure fire. It's a clear demonstration of how sharp his instincts are. Awesome job with the solo and the song altogether.
One of the best Jazz drummers I’ve ever heard. What a talent
He's simply incredible. I've been playing for years and could never hope to replicate this level of play.
Stupendous! The time and effort poured into his natural talent... this kid can't get enough recognition.
He's amazing!
what in the wide wide world of sports did I just watch 😮😮😮WOW
I’ve been drumming for 30 years and learned something new from your commentary. Thank you for making this video!

Best reaction of Greyson’s Caravan ever
This comment
Love how at the start of the solo he hints towards a Sing Sing Sing type beat
Man. That 19 year old has fucking hands on him. God DAMN. The precision.
this kid is one of the top drummers of this time !
your reaction was exactly my reaction...he's disgustingly good
I love that you drew attention to the areas where something went "wrong" and how he recovers and keeps it going. Nobody does that in reaction videos! In a few more years? He’s already there

There's a metal drummer here on YT who said the same thing in his reaction to the same video: "This guy was born to play the drums."
I laughed so hard and enjoyed your enjoyment of Greyson!
He man, I need to tell you him much I appreciate your musical analysis.

Loved your analysis but also watching you read and observe the playing. This is the third analysis I've watched and the best. Very cool. Subscribed.

Just found You through Greyson’s vid. Loved your presentation, energy and wealth of knowledge! New fan!!
Are you Greyson's mum?
Wow! Glad I found your channel. Love your breakdown of this video.
This movie Whiplash brought back a style and Era of playing that had been lost to time. But now I'm seeing so many covers of Caravan (which is not an easy drum piece by any means.
You should definitely react to El Estepario Siberiano drum content. Guy has insane technical ability and speed. Enjoyed the content. Keep it up.
Rock the shit outta those drums Dale!! 15:28
Cool ! (I did the track for this BTW) fun commentary !
Love your vid bro, cheers from Indonesian drummer 🍻

Has to be a Buddy Rich fan ❤
Must be! You can def see the influence. Greyson is amazing
For sure! He makes quite a few videos playing Buddy Rich beats.
Of course! And also uses the famous Buddy Rich logo on his kit, but naturally with his own initials!
Dear God! He dint even break a sweet! Phenomenal!
Watch the entire video on UA-cam....it's literally dripping off him!
You don't see that stick style very often

Try reacting to Meshuggah - Bleed if you want a life changing experience.

Tasteful highly technical playing
Great video. I really enjoyed your insights and observations.
