Thank you very much for all your kind words! They are so appreciated! Means the world to have your support. All the best, Grey
You sir, are incredible. Never stop.
Mind blowing Greyson.
Speechless.
Thank you for doing all that you do.
you do an excellent job on your videos, even for a lowly guitarist like myself.. lol
Unbelievable
Considering he's 19...well, he'll become probably one of the greatest drummers of all time for sure.
He's smashin' it Andre!
Wait what???
Fact!
Same age as Andrew 😮
Wouldn’t you say he’s already there? I mean, you don’t think he’s one of the greats already?
whoever supported this kids drumming passion growing up did us all a favor.
YES!
Greyson grew up in my old neighborhood. He has very dedicated parents, supportive siblings and neighbors who knew we would have “I knew him when “ bragging rights !!
for sure his mom and dad were supportive. I can see it
Greyson is on a mission to make everyone remember how badass jazz drummers are!
HAHA!
oh im easily sold from the first few vids ive watched of him
хотел написать то же самое, но ты меня опередил)
🖤🖤🖤
holy cow.... the swing, the chops, the flair, the dynamics, the fluidity, the confidence and the unbridled ferocity with which he plays is truly scary.
Yup. He's smashin' it
He always looks like he's fighting demons while playing
I find it amazing how he accidentally clicked his sticks when rolling on the floor tom, but then he adapts it into the solo.
There's a saying I heard years ago about playing music, "If you make a mistake, just repeat the mistake and it becometh jazz."
Greyson said it himself:
“There shouldn’t be a ’You’re doing this or that wrong’ or ‘That’s not how it’s been done properly’ as long as the job, i.e. drumming, is done beautifully… If you find a way of holding them sticks in way that make YOUR playing better than that of the others, maybe even better than the ‘standard’, then don’t give af what those others say… just go for it!”
I love this guy. No matter what music style he’s playing, it’s always something special both to listen to and watching him perform.
Greyson Nekrutman is “The Dude” man!
Thank you very much for the kind words!
@@GreysonNekrutmandrums Oh, you’re more than welcome, Greyson.🙏🏼😊
Keep that beat neat n’ sweet❣️😉👍🏼
100%. Brendan Buckley said something profound when I interviewed him.
'There's no right or wrong way to do anything'.
People think I as a drum teacher will be dogmatic in my approach. It's the opposite. Student dictates their own path. I just try and keep things coherent, keep them motivated.
I would like to clarify something.
I (possibly) unfortunately referred to Greyson as a ‘Kid’ a few times in this video.
I meant no disrespect. He is 19 years old at the time of this video.
I hope you understand my intention in the moment was to discuss how young, yet mature he is.
He’s very young to me! (Insert old man meme) 🤣👌
I feel I should clarify this.
As you were…
He “ran” a marathon…playing the drums. His endurance and skills are supernatural. God bless him.😊
So good Ben! 🤯
I am impressed with how spontaneous he feels on the one hand but also how he is still careful to follow stylistically appropriate jazz idoms with this playing. You could almost believe this was an historical recording. I would love to hear him playing bebop.
You nailed it Michael.
Great summation
I was trained by an extreme metal drummer, but I've always been impressed by the list of insane jazz drummers out there. Antonio Sanchez is one of my favorites. Greyson is much younger. can't imagine what he will accomplish.
Dave Weckl. 😉
Antonio Sanchez is another alien for sure. Insane player
That’s a shame.
Better, a superhuman again
and he was a trained pianist before he took on the drums!@@AndrewRooneyDrums
After seeing him blow so many jazz classics out of the water, it’s a little hard to believe that he’s playing with Suicidal Tendencies now. Lol.
Greyson is so so impressive in this solo, he puts his heart, his soul, all his long hours and days of hard work, to play the best music.
You know what shows how impressive he is? Andrew, you don't even smile, or blink, or make a joke, your are just "on the edge of your chair" as a witness of something really unique.
I was the same on the Gergo video. It's beyond belief
This is one of the best drum solo performances I have ever seen…
Absolutely insane 😮
yeah man wtf kinda makes eddie on the guitar seem like a novice LOL
Greyson is terrifying, absolutely terrifying. Insane.
Yes Diego!
My left hand cramps up every time I watch him lol
HAHA
That. Was. Insane. He swings like the greats, and I've rarely heard such an inventive, dynamic (in the musical sense), immaculate drum solo in any genre. Talent + desire + hard work = Greyson Nekrutman. Whew.
I think that the most amazing thing here is that somewhere... someone.... invented a Greyson-Proof drumstick. What a wonderful young man, I wish I could play bass alongside him
The Drums: Please, no more!!
Unbelievable drumming
The efficiency of his movements is unreal. Almost no upperbody movement. What an incredible performance! So much respect for all the countless hours of practice and discipline went into this.
Remarkable. Easily the best trad jazz solo I’ve seen in the modern era. Speechless.
I love when something old but new blows our minds
A true savant drummer. He blows my mind every time.
Me too Phil
I’m a bassist and this inspired me. What an absolute killer.
Yes Jon!
Music just flowing out of him
Wow... What a phenomenal drummer. And for someone so young. Really mind blowing skill.
Love seeing a younger guy keeping jazz/swing drumming alive. This guy is amazing!
100%
What a jerk! How DARE he be that good!!! Seriously, so proud to see such a traditional jazz drumming virtuoso carrying on the vein of the greats. Jazz is alive and well, thank God (says this metal drummer)!!!
I know right!? Who does he think he is getting that good!?
Sickening
A great jazz drummer is one of the most entertaining shows you could ever see & this kid is absolute DYNAMITE. I have no words.
The talent of this kid. There’s an arc of seeing that kinda composed precision where you go from being impressed, to admiration, to just having your face in your hands in a mixture of awe and disbelief. 19 years old.
One of the most impressive performances I’ve ever seen, bravo
🙌
Pure class! A spellbinding rendition! Greyson is a monster talent! 🤙🏼
100% Scott
This guy is set to become a drummer to be reconed with!! Hand speed, smoothness and has a left hand that is amazing. Very enjoyable performance.
I’ve watched him a lot and I have never seen a better drummer. He’s taken everything to a different level. He is the COMPLETE drummer
i get this feeling that this is what people felt the first time they heard Bonham for the first time back in the 70's.... what a performance!
Good point! Most of the Led Zep crowd/world would never have heard all Bonhams jazz licks.
He brought it into the mainstream
@@AndrewRooneyDrums if you haven't already, check out some of Zeps bootlegged stuff.....holy cow
Except this fella has chops Bonzo could only dream of. No disrespect as Bonzo was the greatest rock drummer.
I’ve been seeing him on IG. Technical ability aside (which is unbelievable) he is so electric. His energy brings so much to the performance, he could be half the technician and still an outstanding drummer.
Exactly Kenny. It's the fire and passion
This guy is a miracle, I hope all the fame and glory will reach him in the most pleasant ways!
The sheer endurance to do that is unbelievable. Good god.
Great analysis! Your reactions to rock classics are very good, here you are in your element and speak to the Jazz, very well! You have a real appreciation for your art, passion on high! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! 🙏
This young man was born to play the drums!!!OMG
Yes Dave!
I think jazz drummers are my absolute favourite drummers. They’re just so effing amazing, my mind melts when I watch them
This is some serious creativity and chops
This is just incredible. I could just listen to him play all day long. Stunning. What a talent!!
i had to watch this twice once staring at greyson and the other for youre reaction, incredible i wish i stuck with drumming havent played in years but seeing greyson inspires me too get back on the kit.
That's the ultimate outcome from this video.
You get back on the kit :)
THAT is one of the SICKEST drum performances I have EVER seen... 😮
Me too
Jazz drummers are a class of there own, I have a deep appreciation for them, greyson is a class of his own. Beautiful execution, incredible skill.
Yes Andreas!. INCREDIBLE
thx for the explanation - helped me understand the subject a bit better!
I loved this reaction and the whole spoel afterwards. Ot was beautiful. It reminds me of what punk rock/ rock and roll should be. The energy is incredible. It reminds me of the sonics.
GREAT! Thank you
Incredible Greyson you’re an incredibly talented young man much success
He's smashin' it Walt!
Great reaction vid. Great breakdown. Great info. THANK YOU for not slamming the breaks on the vid to yammer on. Instant subscriber here. Well played, sir.
I am not a drummer, but this man has got me wanting to learn! I love watching Buddy Guy footage and Rush is my favorite band. This was one of the most amazing drumming experiences I have witnessed. He is the future of drumming!
This is absolutely bonkers. Hang in till the end where I give my feedback/analysis! Enjoy...

Andrew
Hey Andrew
I'm pretty sure you were mesmerized watching this because I've never seen you watching a video without pausing it. 😀
Greyson is unreal!!! 😲
Unbelievable!
Second best performance of Caravan I've seen. 😉. Top drummer Greyson. Good job.
Kia ora Andrew, thanks for sharing this it's a great clip - Greyson Nekrutman outstanding player on an outstanding piece, regards Larnie. Love your channel
I just finished watching Mr. Nekruman analyze Whiplash and I was floored when he said they were trying way too hard. So when I saw Mr. Rooney blown away on this video, I said, okay, let's see if this kid really has the chops. His solo at the end was impeccable. I am a new fan and look forward to many years of hearing Mr. Nekrutman play.
Yes Alfred. Greyson is the real deal
@@AndrewRooneyDrums - I'm 53 and have been listening to jazz since my teens. This young man reminds me why I fell in love with jazz so many years ago. FYI -Great channel sir.
@@artofsoul Ditto!
I watch this video almost every day. I'm not a drummer, LOVE drums. This kid is a generational phenom. I don't watch reaction videos but you basically make the same comments or faces I make and if you dont... LEBRON does. I'm a new youtuber and music is important to what I make...watching this video pumps me up every day! Thanks man
GREAT
Thank you for the explanation of jazz and musical terms, it's gold for a newbie! I enjoyed your feedback and facial expressions, so funny and richful content 👏🙌
🙏
Loved hearing your breakdown and passion
🙏
If I could have pressed the like button more…I would have. I can’t even find the words to describe how crazy good this guy is.
I broke my like button
Never heard of Greyson; extreme respect for this fellow drummer. I will be adding some jazz into my practice just because it would be fun and add something fresh to my style. Maybe one day I'll be as good as single Greyson sweat droplet. Cheers!
Excellent motivation Jacob!
I gotta say. As a drummer, these videos DEFINITELY humble me.
This is one of those times when you watch and say that this guy was born to play the drums
He’s an absolute beast!!!!
Unbelievable Ryan
As a metalhead: That was effin beautiful!😍
YESSSSS!
Same here man
You are the best Rooney!
I'm always waiting for the new videos!
Thanks Felix!!!
Absolutely incredible
Kid's pretty good, I hope he makes the cut for his high school band... Ho... leee... f*#&^! I am absolutely in awe and mesmerized. Thank you, UA-cam, for this unexpected recommendation. So amazing.
Sweeeeeeeeeeet!
I sometimes hit cymbals from the bottom , but not on purpose ! ..doh.
Thanks for this one Andrew it's nice to mix it up with styles .
Peace and love brother 👍🏻☮❤
HA! Me too!
This kid is killing it
Whoever edited this video needs a raise.
i just love that hit hat tapping away , just love it
I just saw the film ‘Whiplash’ last night and this tune was featured. It’s about a young guy going to college to try and make it as a top jazz drummer. The teacher is something else, worth a watch if you haven’t seen it.
Yup it's a classic. And pretty close to what jazz school is like :)
The more I watch Greyson, the more I believe he's a true anomaly of rare talent. Like many, I've watched Buddy Rich for years, analyzing his rare skills. I honestly believe Greyson is cleaner and in a sense.. better. So impressive and a class act.
Glad you dug it Randy!
Greyson Nekrutman was put on this earth to play drums. That is all. This type of playing is incomparable in the modern age. I am convinced he is an alien from the future.
i really enjoyed this thank you I am working on my drum solo skills adding it to our shows lots of inspiration here
I believe this is what you call "playing with intention"!
Well said Olivier
Um
I am not sure what to say other than that was unreal. There was nothing standard about this kid. Amazing
Crazy stuff Darryl!
Had tears in my eyes watching that which I never thought I’d say about a drum solo 😅
He just made me start listening to jazz 😀 i was just a metal head until i’ve seen him. Amazing kid!
Never heard of this guy before. Very impressive.
Glad to introduce him to you!
This young man has to be the most talented drummer I've ever seen in my entire life. Unbelievable my jaws still on the ground
🥁💯🙌
Bonham was
THE greatest young drummer in the world today and that's a FACT
Incredible musician, its rare to see someone control the story in a solo so perfectly
Haha and here I am busting my balls to get the Take Five groove down! Grayson is out of this world 🤯
HAHA! I hear ya Matthew
Dylan Elise's ten minute jazz fest solo, New Zealand, impressive. There's a columbian drummer that plays single hand rolls, can't remember his name, ramon montagner. There was a twenty minute interview of him. Probably google push pull technique, should find it.
Check out my interview with Dylan on the NZ Drummer Podcast Ronald!
A hurra in the name of jazz heritage !!! Pure passion, outstanding.
So good Diego!
I would love to hear Greyson playing with a group of comparable talent... I don't have a problem with using a recorded base track to show off your skills - but it just makes me want to hear what Greyson can do when the dynamics are balanced (everything gets even better).
Wow
Yup David!
Did you see him fix the cymbal stand about 1/3 of the way through and just keep playing....this guy is unbelievable!!!!
I've been playing drums for over 40 years and in the early days I've had upto 35 students, I' m in absolute awe right now. This performance was amazing! Very talented young man!
Incredible player Darin
4:23 the way the fill starts with ghost notes and progresses in to a snare fill is so damn smooth.. This dude is nuts. CRAZY dynamics.
Masterclass
Absolutely mind blowing
Agree!
been subbed for a long time, proud to be a supporter ☺
Thank you so much Max!
Hell yeah from New England Andrew..Parts of this vid looks sped up but it's not..As you figured out I'm a Metal guy but a player like this could easily do metal!! Mario Duplantier is a trained Jazzer as was Bill Ward so I can see thus dude backing a metal band..thx for another great drummer man..Peace...
Be cool to hear him in a different style. But I suspect he's deep in the weeds with jazz
Love what you doing! We had a great time watching your review of Greyson’s vid and others! Great channel! Yes! Check his instagram he plays it all he really isnt a jazz drummer ;)
@@arubamama123 Hi Susan!
Please feel free to leave a comment (not reply so I can pin it!)
Or if Greyson wants to. And can include whatever links you want :)
He's unreal
I have a suggestion. Underappreciated little video from a band called Son of Aurelius. It's the Spencer Edwards drum playthrough of their song Devine are Slain.
Thank you!
Incredible !!
Yes Bill! 🤯
Dude, my mind is blown. It's like a human rhythmic fireworks show, and I never want it to stop. Absolutely fantastic stuff by GreysonI Definitely going to scope more of his playing!
GREAT to hear!
Gene Krupa helped write the god-damned book all those years ago. I appreciate seeing a young drummer rising up who knows where things started and shows respect to those who pioneered that line of work.
You nailed it Dallas!
Everyone's comparing him to Buddy Rich. But to me, Greyson's style feels more like Joe Morello in his prime, combined with Vinnie, especially in the way he works his way around the tom drums, and elements of the left hand style.
It's so fiery Warren!
You hardly ever get this level of blow the doors off/take no prisoners style anymore
Casey Grillo has an incredible yesterday and today video as he plays his idol , Buddy Rich, split screen . strange that they look alike, physically.
@@wolframreactor74 I have to do that one. Heard so much about it
There are a few Buddy-esque phrases in this solo, but not enough to warrant any deep comparison with him in my opinion.
I’m not sure Greyson has the chops to earn such a comparison … or the desire to. He’s his own opinion player, and he’s great.
Morello had touch.
What an awesome trip around the drums. There was a comment that you made about "hands" and the first drummer for me that came to mind was Matt McGuire. He plays a lot of rock but feels at home playing drum and bass / dubstep. He is the musical director now for the Chainsmokers which is an awesome gig for him. Well worth checking out.
Incredible , amazing , beyond top notch.👍🏻
YUP
Yeah obviously he's a sick drummer, I won't beat that dead horse. Instead, I'm going to compliment the compression on the drums. Aggressive, but not overly so. Perfectly accentuates his dynamics without flattening them into a pancake.
Jazz normally sounds better less squashed. Totally agree Nick.
We want to feel like we're in the room
Most people don't notice that kind of thing. You are very perceptive
What really blows me away about Greyson is his limb Independence. To some the term may seem weird but drummers know what I'm talking about. He just seems to have ZERO connection between his hands & feet on each side. Makes his flow seem complicated & yet some how effortless at the same time.
Crazy independence and facility.
And lets not forget musicality!
Helps with flying helicopters too :)
