Watching Nuno Bettencourt figuring out Hot for Teacher is the best thing I've seen in ages. Awesome!
Seriously that is the most freakin awesome thing I have ever seen. Nuno should go on tour with Sammy.
@@withaloudnoise7872
Nah Sammy should stay at home where he belongs
@@Lamster66oh God amen to that ty
Pretty sure he knew it at one point prior, but damn Nuno is phenomenal.

Proof that Nuno still sounds like himself on any rig.
Of course he “sounds like himself”. But he also sounds like Eddie.
Is not about the rig, like someone said in the past "it's not about the bike" 😂
@@stringtheoryguitars4952 it may be a nod to the previous interview with with Beato where Nuno told a story about playing Eddie Van Halen's guitar and rig and how disappointed he was that sounded like himself on Eddie's rig and not Eddie.
Continue being combative of you like it. Or you could learn how to phrase the question without looking like a D bag.
Example:
"What do you mean by that statement?" Instead of WTF IS HE SUPPOSED TO SOUND LIKE?
He has very unique style that’s for sure.
...where is the composer...?
I like how when Rick starts to talk, Nuno just starts playing and you can't hear him. 🤣
How cool to watch a master be handed his tool and just observe him in his joy for 10 mins. One thing Rick is really great at is staying out of the way. He seems to never need the ego stroke or the spotlight. Kudos Rick.
Rick is a overall better guitarist than Nuno.
"I haven't played in a while" says Nuno and then proceeds to shred. He seems to be such a kind soul that just loves music. A true master of his craft.
"Shredding" is for fakers who can't play music. Anybody can make random noise very fast.
@@nonrepublicrat Nothin random about it dingus. Clean it up and you will hear a lot of classical influence from both Eddie and Nuno, plus a lot of sped-up blues licks. The intro to He-Man Woman Hater is right out of Flight of the Bumblebee
Yes . He shredded whatever he was trying to play . Can't teach tone I suppose .
@@nonrepublicratNuno has more talent in his pinky finger than you have had your entire life!
Both Nuno & Hendrix are/were very humble about their genius level abilities.
It's almost as if they have to bring themselves down a few notches so the planets won't go out of alignment due to their gravitational pull.
Mars & Jupiter: "I hear some awesome guitar being played... Let's go check it out."
the more interviews I see with Nuno, the more I'm realising what genuine nice guy who is still that guitar obsessed teenager inside, love it. Thank you Rick for sharing that with us
Like Paul Gilbert. Booys with toys! And all with a wide smile!
He has matured allot since he first got famous, thats a good sign
@@lukemanify I agree, ...good personality does show up in thier guitar playing, like with Eddie, he was
the happiest guitarist i ever met.
Imagine if he'd actually been in a real band lol, what a waste of talent.
Definitely talks like a teenager.
This is fantastic. He's like a kid in a candy store. And the more excited he gets, the more F-Bombs he drops. What a great-natured genuine man and superb guitarist. Another example of "You gotta love what you do".
He’s got you fooled hahaha. Totally different with no camera
Fuck Yes
He hits the strings so lightly and with just enough palm muting, it makes the strings sound hollow and glassy. Amazing
Hollow and glassy?? I heard a muffled tone for the most part.
And the amp is cookin' so only need to barely touch the strings
Congratulations to you Rick for creating that amazingly creative environment that Nuno felt comfortable in.
Exactly that
YES! That is the key.
Nuno is almost 60 years old. And theres only 4 years between him and Rick. Whats his diet like? Or has he sold his soul for guitar skills and eternal youth?
Vegetarian
The boots? Could be! lol
Looks like Nelly Fertado’s older sister. He does look good
Both
Good old fashioned Azorian genes.
One of the coolest chill outs with a master musician I've witnessed. Really gives you the vibe of what it's like to hang with that level of players, phenomenal!
Great episode. Always loved Nuno. He just loves music - and it shows. Thank you, Rick!
Literally one of the best videos of Nuno ever! Thank you Rick. I love the way you get Nuno to just be himself and do Nuno things! So organic... Thank you!
You can’t get this kind of content anywhere else. Keep it up Rick!!!!
By far the most under rated and under appreciated guitarists of our era
I think Buckethead is but Nuno is highly underrated for sure
Not sure how you can say that? He’s had an incredible career, is admired by guys like Brian May and at his age still creating iconic guitar solos.
Nuno is so humble and praises all other guitar players although he is the man. A fun interview where he is in his true element. I really appreciate this guitar hero!
Rick- extremely funny that you “tricked” Nuno into to playing as he doesn’t play in reviews. He seems to truly enjoy your guitars and now so did we listening! Great job as usual and your patience shows why you produce so well!
It would be very hard for any player to resist looking around that studio of Rick's and not wanting to plug a couple in and just... test things out.
I was LOLing too. "Nuno, I know you don't play during interviews..,.but i happened to have a few guitar set ups here, coincidentally, and.." We all benefited from that decision.
@@RKDriver Right?
Rick definitely has an awesome stable.
Most of what he did was play 😂
Whats just as impressive as his technical and musical ability, is his groove. It's on point.
Check me out
what a load of nonsense
You can SO see how much Nono FEELS what he plays. It's unbelievable. He LIVES musicality. WOW.
This has probably been my favorite interview!! Loved getting to hear Nuno, just sounded so real ya know!
One can tell he's such a happy person. And humble. I'm not into shredders at all, but Nuno has really got it goin on. Much respect!
dude really isn't that humble
Humble where?
Playing something is more important than playing anything.
You want humble shredder? Steve Vai is the man.
@@asimhussain8716 nope, he's false humility
How generous of Nuno to give so much to that interview. He looked like he was having a blast!!
Nuno's been one of my favorite guitarists for a long time and this shows why. Awesome to see this. Like many of my favorites, you can hear his playing and instantly identify him. Incredible.
That is pure unbridled joy and enthusiasm, and it’s a wonderful thing
"Get the funk out" is STILL one of my all time favorite leads and style on the planet! It's ridiculous!? That dude's a badass having wrote something that amazing! props... from a 30 something year guitar player/musician. The world seriously needs more of them!
Mine too.. and hearing it live is another dimension
the power of Gary Cherone's voice, with Nuno's crazy guitar skills... made for some great tunes. Culminated in the 3 Sides to Every Story album.
That is one of the greatest albums ever made in rock in my opinion. Although II and Punchline are great too, but II really takes the cake. I am oddly not at all a fan of the new album though. The engineering on it wasn't great, and the autotune was abused and not well programmed. Hopefully they will do another one with a producer and engineer in the room, maybe another Wagner album. :)
Waiting for the Punchline was my favorite. Sounds like you are in the room with them.
@@tube33139 Yeah when my band was recording our first EP, I told the other guy I wanted the album to sound like that, and I found out he was actually in contact with that producer (unrelated, just by chance) to do the EP. Sadly we never made it work out and I ended up self producing the first demos, and listening to them now, they sound over produced unlike that raw sound on Punchline.
Pornograffiti ❤
III sides is friggin amazing, loved that album since i was about 12 years old, one of those albums that makes me want to simultaneously both play the guitar and not bother because I'll never be half that good
So great that Nuno mentioned about how surprisingly clean EVH's guitar tracks were. I've always been amazed that Eddie had like a light crunch on his guitar and wasn't heavily distorted at a time when everyone else was high gain.
Thank both of you.
The whole full length interview is top notch. One of the best interviews of any artist ever made I would say. I couldn't stop watching, not even to get a drink.
Haha. I watched it twice right away. It's like an antidepressant.
I love just seeing his smile as he's playing, that's the power of music and playing an instrument. Pure joy.
It's always a joy to watch a master of his profession!
What always strikes me when he interviews is that Nuno talks about the music. Not about himself, but other artists, the music, the guitar, the technicians. How many of us are fortunate enough in our lives to truly feel that passion for whatever our art may be?
Everyone knows how amazing Nuno is at absolutely shredding. What people don’t realise until they hear him play unaccompanied like this is how godly his rhythm also is. The dude is like a human metronome even at high speed. His tempo is impeccable
Yeah well, those bends are absolutely basic. They sound weak af bro.
It's Nuno not Nino. 😂
@@thomasbrandt8265 damn autocorrect
I said the exact same thing to my sister. Watching him play Midnight Express on acoustic is a mind altering experience. He uses the string scratch as percussion and his leg and body movements are doing a harmony type thing to what he’s playing, almost like he is hearing a full orchestra in his head and playing around them . I’ve never seen anyone play like him . He also plays by ear so he has to be a human metronome 😂.
You call the rhythm he played in hot for teacher, godly?!? lol he sounded like me.
Peacemaker Die is such a guitar player's love letter to guitar players. What a great groove.
I went into the video hoping to hear that riff, so good.
what is the riff he plays at 1:13? that screaming lick 😍
What’s awesome to me is watching NUNO with so much experience and talent, discover something new that he loves. And I learn too, big plus! Always love your shows bro THANKYOU ❤
I think Sammy should give him a gig on the tour. Love seeing Nuno playing his idols riffs. RIP Eddie🤟🏻
I listen to you EVERY DAY. You may be gone but definitely not forgotten.
I like the idea, but I haven't heard Nuno play anything Van Hagar yet.
They should have asked Nuno to do the VH tribute tour IMO.. he is a huge EVH fan and has the lead and especially rhythm chops to pull it off!
He wouldnt do it
And the vocals, which is a big part of it.
Has he said that?? @@jerseyshawn4283
The greatest EVH replicator is a youtuber called Eric.
@@jerseyshawn4283 moot point because Sammy Hagar would never ask him
Thank you Rick and thank you Nuno. I watched the interview with a big smile on my face the whole time.
Nuno is very very humble person and a hell of guitarist/musician. Nothing but great respect & love for him
Rick this is thee best interview everr!
Wow! Hearing him knock out that Hot for Teacher stuff, even with the solo all broken up, was a joy! For my money Nuno’s pretty much the only other guy with the energy, skills, fluidity and fun factor to properly emulate or even match EVH.
"It's been a while..." And proceeds to hit it close enough that the second playthrough would be good enough for any bar band.
@@GreenCanoeb What an _ear_ he's got! Note for note capturing the essence - all the pinch harmonics everything!
I love it when you see some of the shred kings talk about the impact that Eddie had.
Fantastic and such a gent having fun. So inspiring.

Absolutely wild that after all these decades, Nuno, an absolute guitar legend... can't get someone to setup his guitars with low action. You'd think Washburn would send him guitars that play like butter. Insane.
Washburn should be waiting on him hand and foot!
@@jgoodman75 Exactly my dude. Hell, I could set it up for him if they won't.
So true. He should run them thru the Plec machine, its amazing once you play one, even Sweetwater can do that now for a fee.
Love Nuno. ❤️ Hearing him rip Van Halen deep cut riffs and licks made my day.
There will never be another Van Halen.
How do you top one of the most influential first effort rock albums ever? Put out Van Halen II. I have not met many people that didn't like Van Halen because it's best to avoid those type people.
There definitely never be another Eddie Van Halen, but have you heard his kid Wolfgang play ?? Making his father proud with his chops for sure ..
Now that you mentioned it... It too have never heard anyone say they didn't like Van Halen.
Like someone saying they don't like pizza or Ana de Armas' lips.
My father is one of those people - hes an old head guitarist who thinks that “fast” playing is garbage, and totally ignores the mucisianship behind players like Edward, all he hears is the speed. So I drive him crazy by playing EVH riffs and solos all the time lol@@TenFalconsMusic
Nuno is unreal!! One of my favs. Such a cool player and so talented
This was awesome, thank you!
Nuno playing Hot for teacher is a dream come true 07:56
No doubt, the last 5 mins of this video are pure gold and made my entire week!!! 🔥💪🎸🤘
Really.

Would've liked hearing more "Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love".
That 69 Stratocaster though hand wound pickups which are overwound so they sound like Stacked pickups amazing guitar must be worth a fortune ❤
I wonder if he even practiced that in anticipation before the interview? Or is that just giving it a try after years of not playing it 😮
Almost like every guitarist learns a EVH lick or two...
Thank you, Rick. Thank you, Nuno! Can't tell you both how much we love this. Playing, talking, and listening at it's finest.
Nuno is fucking AWESOME!!
Content like this is priceless….THANK YOU
Rick u r at a true another lv of interview skills. Tks for sharing your wisdom, what u do for guitar world is far beyond the Sun!
Thank you Rick! We all wanted the same thing, to listen to Nuno. Always enjoy your vids.
It's fun to watch Nuno genuinely enjoy the guitar, amp, and how it's all set up.

I would like to just kick it with Nuno everyday for a year......
Talented beyond belief ....
Genuine and real AF.....

excellent interview !
I saw Nuno perform at the Portuguese American club in Hudson MA about 10 years ago. He was the pride of the town. He captures the spirit of Eddie so well. I’d love to see him on guitar in a new version of VH. R.I.P. Eddie, I saw VH’s last show ever at the Hollywood Bowl 10/15. It will always be the greatest rock show I’ve ever been to.
The sheer joy he gets from playing is amazing.
Could watch this ALL DAY!! Thank you for this...
He has an incredible rhythm, his phrasing is always groovin... Definitely one of my best guitar players of all time
First off, that blue SG sounds amazing, and Nuno makes the most difficult stuff seem effortless!!! Thank you Rick for giving us the content that we deserve!!!!
Even now gone, Eddie VH's remains so present in Nuno's mind, that's so impressive. It's like Eddie's ghost is floating around all guitar players from that generation.
Several months ago we were at a Voyage concert on the New Hampshire sea coast. Voyage’s lead guitarist is Extreme’s manager. Nuno was home from the west coast that weekend visiting family in the Boston area, and he drove up to the concert. For the finale of the show, as a surprise, they brought Nuno out on stage to play the last song with them and I damn near lost my mind!!! What a kick ass way to end a show!!!
So sick!! This dude rips. I like that open riff pulsating thing
Nuno is like the Terminator. He cannot be stopped! :-D Met him on a Generation Axe tour and he's just the most down to earth, coolest celeb I've ever chatted with.
If watching Nuno groove doesn't make you smile, you should see a doctor!
Check Aprils Diary out 🕶
What really strikes me as exceptional is that Nuno still has that teenage freshness in his playing.. you can hear the spontaneity and the zing!
Holy crap dude, this is awesome! Thank you for sharing.
Gosh!! Dope!! It's like chatting with his friends while sitting back and relaxing in the living room!
What a moment!!
Nuno is an awesome dude and a great player…such an enjoyable interview to watch
I have no idea why people aren't subscribed to this channel. It rocks, man!
Growing up in Boston and seeing Extreme play in Bunratty's and the Channel rock clubs in the 1980's so awesome.
This was so raw and real, I loved it.
Nuno's passion for guitar compliments his already fantastic level of skill and makes him an even greater guitar player for it. 😎🎸
2:30 Nuno's guitar tech dusts off his resume.🤣🤣🤣
I thought the same thing, but the way you put it was friggin hilarious! 😆
Pretty funny. Although, Nuno is sponsored by Washburn.😮 The bigger question is, why is Washburn sending anything to Nuno that needs "set up" to play better? Honestly, it sounded like he was struggling with the lower action. Not having to "work his ass off" for every note comment hit home.
I agree 100% @@CanYouDig
I'm going to subscribe. Nuno made tears leak out of my eyes slightly. Haven't came close to crying happy tears for two decades.

This was an absolute joy to watch/hear! Nuno gets overlooked too often.
Listening and watching him play EVH with that smile and enthusiasm. I'm a drum guy and I can't stop smiling. Brilliant

The white Strat rocks ! 🔥
Hot for the teacher ! 🎸💫
Rick love what you do and the intricate questions and approaches is the same questions i think about all the time and I enjoy the way guests open up and actually have to think outside the box for a min to give a impressive answer.
I love the way he's using the left-hand thumb! Rick you Rock!!!
That strat sounds amazing!
This was a real treat! Very cool of Nuno to just hang out and fan boy over EVH.
Amazing to watch someone who absolutely LOVES to play!
I just love watching the smile he gets when he's playing guitar! The guy fricken loves it, even when it's not his own rig!! And we love him! He is my GOAT!
5:53 never underestimate the game-changer that a properly set up guitar can be. It took me far longer than I care to admit to realize how important guitar maintenance is to the playing experience. I may never play like Nuno, though I'll be damned if I'm not going to be comfortable while I'm playing what I can.
Watching Nuno play makes me smile laughy my ass off. The sheer joy it brings him to just go and try to rip it! One of the truly talented guitarists of our age
I've loved Nuno since the 80s. Dude is amazing.
"Always" amazed that there is so much blues in Nuno. Like it!!!!
Juno is clearly having a blast! And I think you have a great gift for creating a space in which great musicians can simply enjoy their craft, thus allowing us to do the same. Thank you!
Nuno is such a freaking G! Kinda bums me out that so many of us that were into rock music in the '90's missed out on his amazing talent along with Extreme as a whole due to that one commercially successful "pop" song. I genuinely had no idea what a shredder he is. Me being into the whole Grunge thing at the time probably didn't help.
Huge grunge fan here but I was also playing guitar back then and reading all the magazines. That’s why I bought their debut album. He was highly praised in the magazines way before the “more than words” single which wasn’t even the first single off the album. So while many “casual” music fans might have overlooked them, I don’t think very many serious guitarists did. I never became a big fan of the band or album but definitely respect his playing and love his personality.
@@thatsamazin- I get that. Had I been playing guitar then, I probably would have come to the same realization as you. But, alas, I didn't start playing until a few years ago.

Nuno is a legend. Totally underrated for some reason which I cannot comprehend. 100% stud on the guitar! 🔥🙏
Also Mr. Modest. I love that about him.
Where do you get the idea that he's underrated? Like literally every guitarist on the planet knows who he is and his skills.
Nuno is not underrated, in any way, shape or form! He is well known and widely regarded as a guitar maestro. Many folks have commented on UA-cam about the excessive use of the word "underrated" due to people wanting to profess their love of an artist and simply using "underrated" as a way to do so.
It’s you been overrated
Jimi and Eddie broke new ground and unfortunate for those who come after but it's why casual music listeners can underrate a guy like Nino.
Rick, as a drummer and guitar dabbler on my son’s gear, I thoroughly enjoyed this segment. Please stay eternally youthful, Rick. Much love from Ireland (Gods Country) ✌🏻❤️
Every interview I’ve seen with Nuno, he seems like such a good dude
That 'Hot for Teacher' run was majestic.
I found Nuno really early in life without knowing it. Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure was pretty much the first movie I saw in the cinema. It was years later I realised Nuno scored the montage of the historical figures running through the mall.
Fabulously talented guy, can't wait to see him again live, if you are reading Nuno....people in Scotland know who you are too!!! We have some venues here!!!
