He's right...it is not a comfortable position to be in when removing the speed sensor. Removing the wheel helps a little bit for added light. BE SURE to spray WD-40 or any kind of penetrating fluid on the bolts and around the speed sensor. AND LET IT SOAK IN !! I used a puddy knife to work around the sensor, then SLOWLY pry it out. On a high mileage vehicle it's going to take some patience as you don't want to break the sensor portion inside the portal. And if you do ? Your going to have to drill it out. Pain in the azz. Work SLOWLY !!!!
Would this also apply to the gx470 of the same generation. All those lights come on except the check engine and traction control. I have a very high pitched noise coming out from the driver dash, not sure if it’s the abs motor that has gone bad but my breaks work fine and are not sluggish or hard. The beeping is driving me crazy also I don’t get any fault codes when a scan tool is used.
My 4runner does not turn on the lights, I changed the shock absorbers and now the ABS and VSC lights turn on. Could you help me. ? Do I have to change those ABS sensors?

When all the warning lights were on, could you turn on 4wheel drive or not? I have the same lights on and can't engage 4wheel drive. Hoping new sensors will do the trick.
I’m a hunting guide and the same thing happened to me I was able to get into 4 by turning my tundra off and then switching to 4 and when I turned the truck back on it engaged.
My parents mechanic broke mine speed sensor after replacing both front cv axles. He didn’t admit it and it was fine till I took it there and after the abs light came on. I had other issues too. I was pretty sure I had diff fluid leaking. Limped it back to his shop n it felt rougher while driving. Calls back n all the stuff I said was going on said nothing was wrong but I had him rotate my tires since it was there and after getting back some of the problems were gone just a slight noise which could be tire or brake pad. Tho I checked my 4wd 4 low and diff. All engaged with all light on dash. Told me part was 245 dollars. I’ll take my chance with the Amazon one.
I have a 03 sr5 4 runner since the last bad snow my Trac off vsc off light stayed on since then the back passenger wheel started scrubbing bad do you think that's the sensor also everytime it snows this happens but this time it stayed on also thank you I did comment and sub....
@@YHWH77711 it could very well be the sensor. I would also check your bearings if it's rubbing. It could also be the sensor is covered in snow. I've had that happen to me as well.
You can’t just guess it’s a gas cap or a speed sensor without testing and diagnosing. A Toyota will set a specific code for a gas cap (EVAP) vs a ABS code which relates to the speed sensors…
Yes that fixed the issue. But a moth later my master cylinder malfunctioned and the ABS light came on. So the master cylinder could be a case too. Hopefully not yours.

Yes it worked, however it came back on a month or so later for the ABS circuit malfunction. I'll have a video coming up when I replace that as well. Thanks.
@@victorcortez1155 I haven't replaced it yet, but I will need to replace the ABS control system. The motor has gone bad in there and the ABS system doesn't work properly. You should start with the little things though like your gas cap, speed sensors and see if you have a leak like in your evap system. Do a smoke test if you know how to if not there are many videos out there to help you and some shops do it too. I will upload a video as soon as I replace mine but it is a pricey project so that's why it's taking mr longer to fix. Thanks.

I have a code C1201, the issue is that the ABS light isn't lit up; I just replaced the gas cap today. What else can it be just in case? Did your car shake while driving at any point randomly?
Yours sound like a bearing problem. Check your bearings by rising up the truck and wiggle the wheel back and forth with one hand on the top of the wheel and the other on the bottom of the wheel. If there's movement, that means it's a bad bearing. Look up how to check if your bearings are bad. It's easy to tell.
could you please give me some advise I made a mistake by spraying wd40 onto the wheel speed sensor and now it's making a grinding noise is there any possibility of changing the wheel speed sensor and the problem will go away
Hey bud, it gave me the speed sensor code (can't remember the code) but the traction control, check engine and VSC lights were on because of it. I'm not sure if it's the same for yours.

@@josebelloso6494 sounds complicated but at the same time could be something stupid simple. Have you tried your gas cap? If that's loose it will throw warning lights on.
No sir, I recommend turning the car off and disconnecting the battery before removing the sensor. But I looked it up and I found out it clears the code regardless that's why I did it.

Sounds like your master cylinder motor is going out or gone already

If you have a scan tool, you should do a diagnostic amd see what codes come up. If it is the speed sensor, it'll give you the code for it.

It cleared the code. You can search for it on Amazon and should get a bunch. Just search for speed sensors for your vehicle.

Nash Haris gas cap done. Didn’t resolve issue. I get the codes clear but they end up returning within the month.

@Kevin Tran yes, the bearings have a magnet in them making some kind of connection with the speed sensors to be able to read your speed.

Is it the wrong sensor? Or is the noise sound like metal on metal? Could be the dust cover around the rotors or possibly bad bearings.

Hey bud, it gave me the speed sensor code (can't remember the code) but the traction control, check engine and VSC lights were on because of it. I'm not sure if it's the same for yours.
How do you knew which tire sensor it was,and how many speed sensors do 4x4 v8 4runners have?
The code said front speed sensors malfunction. I have a good autel maxisys that tells me which side.

No, it was the sensors going bad. Lift kits shouldn't mess with that.
Did your speedo work? And did your brakes pedal stiff up?

The sensor won't have anything to do with your issue here. Sounds like your brake master cylinder is gone.
@@Nashharis8758 we found the problem there was a break line with a hole because it was rust and I lost all the fluid it cost me $200 to fix it .. thx
