Ironwolf

- Ironwolf is a new game mode coming in the next update of WolfQuest: Anniversary Edition! This is a hardcore mode for players who really want to live the life of a wild wolf, always one false move or unlucky kick away from death. As an ironwolf, you only live once!
You can select Ironwolf mode only when creating a new wolf. Then, when you start a new game with an ironwolf, only Challenging and Accurate difficulty levels are available options. (Playing Ironwolf on Easy would be rather silly.) From that point on, you can have only one save file. The game auto-saves every two minutes, and you can manually save as well, updating that single autosave. If your ironwolf survives the entire Slough Creek arc, you can start a new game in Amethyst Mountain or Slough Creek to continue it's life for another year. But if it dies, it is dead. Dead dead dead. You can visit it again in the My Wolves carousel, but you cannot start a new game with it.
We expect to release this update later in April, and it will include Ironwolf, beavers, and another exciting new feature that we have not yet announced. Stay tuned!
_______________
WolfQuest: Anniversary Edition is available now for PC/Mac on Steam and itch.io, as Early Access. The game currently includes Episode 1: Amethyst Mountain, Episode 2: Slough Creek, Lost River: Classic, and multiplayer mode in Amethyst and Lost River. (Slough Creek multiplayer is coming soon,.) The mobile version will come after the game (including Slough Creek) is completed on PC/Mac platforms. The next episode, Tower Fall (DLC) will follow. We do not announce specific release dates. We will release them when they are ready!
Time for hardcore WolfQuest, I better improve my skills if I wanna do this.
Yesssss
Same, I have the worst skips in WQ ever
Yup
I don't know if anyone has thought of this, but I think it would be neat if there was an additional mode you could do so that if your character dies, but your mate is still alive at that point, you could play as your mate. That way you could roleplay out what might happen to a family through your mate, if your main character dies.
I agree, that's a fantastic idea! Can't wait for the devs to notice this.
They said they weren't going to add a feature where we play as our mates.
@@Bonniethebunny That’s too bad :( At least we still have the option of single parenting our pups if the mate dies, or finding a new mate in Slough Creek and raising the pups with them
@lozlaf They actually explained in one of the dev vlogs a new mate wouldn't kill your previous pups and that's why they're adding the feature. In the wild, if your mate dies you get a new one and that mate will adopt your current pups. Being a single parent is an option, but most real wolves and most players would just choose finding a new mate.
@lozlaf I think your thinking of male lions. Also theres a feature in-game where you can find a new mate if your mate dies after having pups and have the new mate be a step parent
They are right when they say most people won’t choose that mode because I know I won’t😂 just not on my family tree
Precisely xD Maybe a quick side wolf or subfamily to try it out.. I might just do that once it’s out

Also, just making sure, if you successfully raise pups as an iron wolf, your pup can become an iron wolf, right? Does that mean you could have 2 iron wolves?
Also if you have more than one pup, does that mean they can all become iron wolves, or is it only 1 iron wolf per game?
And will you be able to use iron wolf during multiplayer?
You make as many ironwolves as you like.

Yesss I always play WQ on the hardest, more realistic difficulty that being accurate with permadeath on! This is deffinately for me!
Being an accurate player looking for a real wolf challenge... This is pretty exciting! Writing this comment after the update came out, I recently made a new ironwolf wolf on accurate named Dante and I'm looking forward to really getting started with him and seeing how long he lasts. I appreciate the addition of extra gameplay options to suit more hardcore players! This is gonna be quite the challenge, I think...
Edit: he ded. I made a new wolf and I'm raising puppies now.
As much as I love it, I dont think Im going to personally play on it with my family tree.
When a wolf is dead in my family tree, I often use that wold in multiplayer or to explore in other games, and I also get super attached to my wolves and it would break my heart not to be able to lay as some of them. I’ll definitely try it out tho 👀
Also, I think you guys should add a feature to play as your wolf’s mate (if they have one) when you die with ironwolf on. You can continue where you were, but with your mate instead, and your mate can go out and find a new make if they want!
Ohhhhh I like this idea

How exiting!
Oh my gosh- this unannounced new feature could be so many different things, I don't know what to think- wait, I know that this update is gonna be epic! Thank you WolfQuest team! ♡

But all jokes aside, I can't wait for this update and you guys have done an amazing job on this game!
Oo iron wolf! I’m so excited but also excited for beavers and that other thing!
wolf quest team! i have some requests that may make a better gameplay if you are a fan of realistic and natural things, these are 4 new things that i think you guys shall add if you can ofc. i hope you guys like my ideas :D
1. when winter comes to wolf quest to make a more realistic cold looking winter, you guys can make an cold breath, like when you howl or snarl you can see the breath like happends when you are in a very cold place.
2. the water its pretty cool but could you guys add like an splash mode in the water like if you jump or a prey trying to escape from you jumps in the water you hear a SPLASH! like in real like. (this also can help with the beavers behavior, when the beaver splash the water with his tail you can hear it and see the water splash.
3. raccons!, raccons are very common in almost all american enviroment, wolves hunt raccon a lot and some zookeepers told me that raccons are a very common prey for wolves to eat in the small menu. so would be cool see raccons in the game.
4. fires in the forest, actually this was a thing in wolf quest 2.7 and i would like to see that the fires back to wolf quest 3 to add more realistic feeling. well these are my ideas, i hope you guys like it!
Those are amazing ideas! It would be really awesome to see those features added :) great ideas!
@@Blip-se7eb thanks you so much! i really hope wolf quest acept my ideas xD but thanks you so much :D
Early! You guys are amazing, tysm for taking ur time to make this game
Can't wait to play this game.
Have to play Ironwolf at least once and name then WolfMeat in honor of DogMeat from Fallout.
I love the permadeath option! It can be a bit terrifying if I like the mate, but sometimes I realize they aren’t the best, in which case...
Pups, you got a new step-dad!
I'm going to do this and immediately suffer, can't wait!
I just gotta say, your music is... AMAZING...
XD its pretty accurate when you said no one will use this mode and thats true for some ppl but I sure do LOVE hard-core modes
I like this new mode, probably never gonna use it tho xD
Also I would like to see a game mode where u can just wander, can't die, can't get hurt, just explore
Oh yeah! Thats what Ive been thinking! Like a freeplay sort of mode or something
Oh, Seri is gonna have a field day with this.
Ohh im excited! Now playing on accurate will be even harder and I'll feel more immersed in the gameplay. You get to feel like a real wolf! Which im all for it.
As someone who loves hardcore in minecraft I will live my life in iron wolf mode. Any chance I get to have one life, I will take it.
Definitely an interesting update for sure. I’ll have to give this realistic game mode a try! I love how closer and closer to ultra realism this game is getting with the updates. Years back Wolf Quest 2.7 was one of my most wanted games, and when I finally got it; everything changed. I’ve always wanted to live the life of a wolf ever since wolves became my favorite animal when I was 4. Wolf Quest closely depicts what it’s like to live as a wild wolf. Thanks Wolf Quest! 🐺❤️
This Ironwolf mode looks epic! I can't wait to try it out. Can't say I'd be good at it, but that's half the fun 😁
WAHHH YES!!! Thanks so much for making this game! As I recently awakened as a therian, this game is superrrr good for channeling out my canine urges! I’m also excited for Ironwolf! It’ll bring so much more to the Evergreen pack! Thanks again, and I wish you a very happy time making this game!
I clicked SO fast on this! You guys have done amazing work on this! I'm scared to do Ironwolf but I LOVE that it's an option now. Anybody gonna create a completely new OC just for Ironwolf and hope you don't get attached to it on case it dies? 😅
I'm gonna do that just to test it out. I've never played on any difficulty apart from easy though soooo-

@@meganfinch3146 I find easy mode really boring tbh. Accurate is the only way I play. You're not having fun unless it's a real challenge!
Super excited! I like a challenge, and I'm ready for some truly hardcore WolfQuest! Will this be an option in multiplayer?
No, Ironwolf is single player mode only.
Okay, thanks for responding!
I’m definitely going to try ironwolf with permadeath on accurate
maybe if you die as an ironwolf in slough creek, you could play as your mate and finish the episode while playing as your mate
not going to be added, as the point is to stick with realism. if your wolf dies, you obviously can't go be your wolf's mate because just like in real life, if you die you can't go and play as someone else.
@@haldouglas4773 yeah I’m still sticking with realism, just the “well what happens to my children” is sticking in my mind, so if you die during the slough creek episode and your mate is still alive you could finish the episode and raise your pups like that. cause if you die, everything that was related to your life doesn’t just stop. that wouldn’t let us play as our pups in the family tree since most likely the slough creek episode won’t be finished and they’ll just be... there
This is a really cool mode!
I’ll definitely be trying this when it comes out-I have a good record of rarely ever dying, even though I have had plenty of close calls that I don’t know how I evaded
Can't wait to play with this mode!
ooh yesss! Its kinda odd i was wondering when this mode would be added to this game! I like beating game story modes with that mode because when you die you gotta start from the beginning of the game lol.
I know it kinda sucks and in that mode you're ALWAYS on edge watching out but its realistic!
I've been waiting for this. THANK YOU SIR
This is a hardcore mode. I love it! I’ll have to make a hardcore only wolf like my moose hunting/bison hunting wolves.
*when I realise I can't play much cuz my laptop needs updated but I don't want to update it and it's extremely laghy*
Same
OMG, IVE BEEN ALREADY DOING THIS WITH MY WOLVES BY WHEN THEY DIE I DELETE EVERYTHING! THIS IS A GAME CHANGER
Heck yea!! I LOVE living on the edge!! >:D
This is so cool! Great job! 😁
It's definitely a game mode worth trying! It also adds some more realism to the game. Great idea!
I’ll definitely be using this new mode!
Personally, I would actually like to use this mode. Just seems like a fun challenge. And of course a new way to torture youtubers and streamers who play the game xD
I started using ironwolf and it's like a huge challenge. I have mate permadeath on i'm on accurate and I have pups rn! 5 of them. I'm trying to get the Iron Mom, Lupine Legend and Survival of the Pack (Accurate) achievements. I might also try to get my mate killed by a bear or a cougar while trying to protect the pups so that I can also get the Fallen Hero achievement. I almost have all the achievements! :D
I will definitely give it a shot. Before I would just select mate permadeath as the most realistic thing, but now- oH bOy!
As much as I LOVE realism, there should be some sort of reward to choosing this mode..
Whether that be an extra plus to stats, making it so pups can have dlc skins, (If they survive you can play as a dlc skin)...
Just a thought- would be nice to be considered in some way.
This could work, but that's not what ironwolf is about. It's for the realism, for the immersion, for the challenge. This, if implemented, would pressure players who otherwise would not play ironwolf into playing ironwolf for the reward, and it would cause more casual players to take on a playstyle they don't like and lose wolves they're attached to. That in mind, I personally don't want there to be a reward - it's not in the spirit of ironwolf, and it would hurt casual players, even if they're not forced to do it, since they would anyway because not getting the reward is kind of the same as a penalty. Everyone has their own playstyle and this idea would reward and penalize players for just being themselves, and it doesn't really make sense from an objective standpoint.
@@ladybug6525 Seems like a waste to me, you'll loose your wolf for no reason, if you wanted a realistic challenge, (I can understand a challenge is fun.) but you could just do hard-mode and just restart your playthrough instead of permanently loosing everything you've put into that wolf, and all that time and effort wouldn't be ultimately wasted. I don't really think its worth it to loose your wolf like that when you could just- delete your saves instead.
And if not getting the reward is 'penalty' that's just more reason to keep doing it and actually get earned for your hard work. A challenge, with a reward! But honestly you shouldn't be 'pressured' by not getting a reward, we should celebrate other's achievements right?
@@thecommentor6249
If you don't like ironwolf, you don't have to use it, you can delete your own saves manually, and that's fine. But if you're saying that EVERYONE is going to think it's a waste, and the devs should change the game in a way that could hurt the game and the mode, that's what doesn't quite sit right with me.
And... Wasted time and effort? If you delete your saves, you start over anyways, you'll still have to find a new mate and establish a new territory every time you die, so the only thing you really lose is your wolf, which is only a problem if you're emotionally attached to it; and a lot of people are, and ironwolf probably isn't for them. But otherwise, it's not really a better alternative. You just make a new wolf and try again. Ironwolf feels a bit more legitimate for me personally.
What I'm trying to say is, you don't have to want to play ironwolf, but if you want to make a suggestion then please look at what makes people want to play ironwolf. It's a game option for immersion, challenge, realism, and pride. It doesn't need a reward to accomplish that.
I don't mean for any of this to come off as passive aggressive, and it's great to suggest new things, I just disagree with the idea and I am trying my best to explain why. Thank you for voicing your opinion, now I've voiced mine.
@@ladybug6525 ehh, yeah, different opinions. Opinion Noted tho.
I am so excited! Going back into old saves if something goes wrong always feels weird to me, and I really like this idea!
i love making this game as hard and realistic as possible this is such a treat
I LOVE how creative this idea is!!!
I don't care if it is one life. I want to feel the experience of permadeath on my wolf so it feels more real.
Usually i play with permideath for my mate, and ill give myself one spare life if i die.
I feel like ill use this a good bit once i get good :)
So excited for this! Going to go for accurate, mate permadeath and ironwolf.
This is so cool! Love it very much!
I would really enjoy achievements, including some super hard ones, and perhaps Ironwolf would be the only mode to get it on. I think that'd be a super nice addition!
Achievements are in the works for the future!
Wasn't expecting this. This should be great for people like me who thought accurate was so easy we felt the need to implement artificial challenges to keep things interesting. Outa curiosity, will there be any other changes for this new hardcore mode? Such as more dangerous prey or more confident predators?
That would be the icing on the cake for me.
Well, that is Accurate. But you are saying you want it harder than that? You are a very good wolf!
@@WolfQuestGame
Yes, I want more pain. Bring it on!
The only time I messed with this was to see if my mate would raise the puppies without me. It's also the only time I got a mate on a difficulty that wasn't easy. After that experiment, I made one of the surviving pups an Ironwolf, and decided to use it for a legacy later on. It was fun, and I plan on using it more frequently then never...
