- In past devblogs, we've shown two common types of wolf dens: the classic "hole in the ground" and the very scenic "under a rock." Today let's look at the third type: "under a tree." These can take many forms, wherever wolves (or the animals who preceded them) found a natural cavity that could be expanded into a den. So for this particular den, I decided to try making it under a fallen tree, as the old roots decayed and created a hollow.
This will be one of over two dozen dens that players can choose from as they explore Slough Creek once it's released. We know that many players would like to go into the den with their pups - but in real life, dens are very cramped and dark so there’s not much you can do in there….but we’re working on a way to give players a peek inside.

WolfQuest: Anniversary Edition is available now for PC/Mac on Steam and itch.io, as Early Access. The game currently includes Episode 1: Amethyst Mountain, Lost River: Classic, and multiplayer mode in both maps. Slough Creek is in development! The mobile version will come after the game (including Slough Creek) is completed on PC/Mac platforms. The next episode, Tower Fall (DLC) will follow. We do not announce specific release dates. We will release them when they are ready!
I know the gameplay, graphics, and animation are OUTSTANDING, but the fact that you guys actually base this off of science and do research on it and make it the game is amazing!! You don’t just throw it together and toss in myths or what you think wolves do. You people put so much effort into this and it’s incredible!! Love you guys so much!!!
I agree, I tell everyone about this and tell them how wonderful you guys (and girls) do the graphics and base it off of yellow stones wolves. Thanks for all your work
Dragonair Blitz I think they even named some packs after real life packs, plus they base the entire map from the real looks of yellowstone and amethyst. It’s all so amazingggg humanity doesn’t deserve thisss
Ya they named all the pics and dispersal groups off of the actual ones, except for the lost river, I know, humanity doesn't deserve this. I wish I was a wolf in the game. Oooooh, can they do that LOL.

Unlessss of course you’re talking about switching from mobile to PC, then buying it again makes sense (I originally played on mobile, but switched to PC when I got my gaming laptop). If I get a new PC, I can just log into my Steam account and it’ll be there ^^

Will lynxes and or bobcats ever come to WolfQuest? I’m not sure if they’ll snack on wolf pups or compete with wolves, but it sounds fun!

@@skeppyruiz Lynx are rarely seen in Yellowstone as well as bobcats, so I'd be surprised if they did add them. It'd be cool though!

There is so much more variety in the dens. Even though there is three different kinds of dens no den looks or feels the same. Especially the rock and tree dens. Great work!

@@COWBOYKODAI ok, well, I want to play multiplayer, but I dont have an account, and I tried making one but its asking for a key... I dont have one, and I didn't buy the game from itch.io, I bought it from the WQ website... and when I tried to skip the key part, it wouldn't allow me to continue... its probably not a bug or problem, its probably because I didn't buy the game from itch.io... my situation is probably alot different than yours... it's ok if you cant help me!

I have a brief idea on how the quests can be arranged for the pups hunting, to alone with the role play of several pack players. (This is just an idea I thought might give some inspiration for the devs, this is in no means something you guys should feel pressured to do if you have other ideas/plans in mind, I’m super excited for the release of the full game and all the amazing efforts you guys are putting in to making this magnificent game!) I was thinking if by chance the tower fall destination is included in the slough creek map, in honor of Wolfquest’s anniversary I figured, once the pups are old enough to learn the ways of the hunt - a quest (similar to the beginning “learn to hunt” quest) maybe along the lines of “Teach the ways of the Hunt”, will show up. Describing you and your mate have completed the previous “raise your pups” quest, they will age slightly, and can now proceed in teaching them to hunt. In order to fully achieve this quest they must hunt (I’m not totally sure on the number of animals, just a rough idea/example) 5 or so animals ((obviously you guys at the dev team will be choosing which animals would correspond to the completion of the quest) big animals like mule deer, elk and perhaps a bison?). Then once the pups of learned the ways of the hunt, they’ll once again become slightly bigger in height and size (as they age into mature pack mates). This idea will sort of further extend the time period you and your mate will have with your pups, which at this point would be yearlings or young hunters - this I feel will give players even more time for stories, storytelling, and the role play the rolls out as your pack grows : once they’ve learned the ways of the hunt, and are young hunters, you must travel to the tower fall destination (in honor of the game’s anniversary) were your pups will face the final test, and once they’ve reached tower fall the pack howls (similar to 2.07’s ending).
From here I figured depending on the personalities inherited by the pups will result in who ends up dispersing from the pack and who ends up staying to raise the next litter. This is by far something I can probably see being very complex in the dynamics of developing an ending for each litter, but I thought I’d share these ideas to see if any of these would spark interest or maybe even lead to more ideas on the outcome of the litters. Again don’t feel you must incorporate these ideas into the layout of the game, as I can’t say how hard it is behind the scenes to include these ideas like into an already amazingly high graphic game - this is merely just a couple of ideas I thought may help spark some inspiration for the challenges and quests of raising the pups incase you and the team were pondering on ways of concluding a quest. 💕🤗🐾🐺

If they added a mechanic where you or the mate could maintain the den on occasion since the pups and everyone else probably mess it all up after a while, that would add even more aesthetic realism like the drinking, it's part of the behavior but not an eye-catching thing like seeking out a baby elk in the tall grass or how pups lick their parents mouths and beg for food.
My gosh I CANNOT believe how realistic you guys do such a great job with creating the map I can't wait to play!🐺

If I understand correctly that's more of a Tower Fall thing, not Slough Creek.
I always wanted to have an actual real pack in Wolf quest.
After they finish Slough Creek, they’ll work on a DLC called Tower Fall. That’s when we’ll see our pups growing.
There will be a purchasable DLC called Tower Fall, where your puppies will be teens/young adults who will stay with you and your mate as a pack.
I can't wait to crawl into the dens with the pups!! ❤❤
I wish the grass would move out of the way when animals walk through it. It would really add a lot more realism to the game.

Honesty, I'm glad the game does not give us the ability to manually dig our own den; that would probably by necessity mean our dens would all have to be generic and boring because they would have to fit in placed anywhere in the terrain; so we wouldn't get more interesting things like this den under a fallen tree, and the dens under rocks, that they spent so much time and effort modeling, texturing, and crafting.

I hate to bring more work for you but I think what needs to go in the little digout around the tree hole is a couple patches of scrubby grass, the kind that stays kind of light colored even in spring and doesn't spring out of the ground like normal grass as much as it blends into the ground. An area like that with so much sand doesn't spring much life forth, so I don't think the super green grass is a great fit.

For the PC/Mac version of WolfQuest: Anniversary Edition, we have added more quality levels so we can boost the visual quality much further than it is now but also give players options play at lower quality if their device can't run modern games well. However, since we have added so much to the game (bigger maps, better graphics, more animals), some low-end devices will not be powerful enough to run the game. We will keep WolfQuest 2.7 (the current game) available as well (for both computers and mobile).
To find out if your computer can run WolfQuest, see the requirements on WolfQuest. org, Steam, or itch.io Or learn more here:

You can search this page to see the score for your graphics card: www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_list.php. If the Passmark score is between 1000 and 3000, the game should run at one of the lower graphics quality levels. If the Passmark score is under 1000, the game may not run at all, or only at the lowest graphics quality with reduced screen resolution.
Some low-end devices will not be powerful enough to run the new game. We suggest trying it to see how the game runs, then experiment with the settings to see what works best for you.
If WolfQuest 3 runs on the laptop right now it should be able to work with the update, I assume
