Oh my Gran was like this as a likely ESFJ. She saved all my drawings and put them on her fridge and had a long side table loaded with photographs of everyone in her family and all her grandkids. And she kept contact with all her more distant relatives in England by letter, long distance calls and Christmas card and rang us daily.
And she cherished everything we gave her as presents.

one way i help my Si (without having to store physical stuff to take up my own space lol), is whenever I'm with friends and i consciously recognize i'm having fun, i find the right moment to take a selfie with us all, I've explained and they know it means that I want to remember this moment- and they all are always into a picture when i ask- then at the end of the year i go through those photos, delete the duplicates, and i get prints made of my favorites, and I will then either 1. share the prints as gifts to them, or 2. I will take time to write each of those friends an individual card thanking them for whatever is it about them that i appreciate, or the moment in the picture being given as a gift, etc, and i package the picture in with the card... I did that once with like 35 friends one year- and they keep those cards and pictures and cherish them like crazy lol. also i took pictures or all the cards before i gave them out (as they were hand written) so i didn't have to keep them around, they're in a pic folder on my phone i can go through whenever i want to reminisce. Also, going back in time through my selfies helps me with having "some sort of memory" that i cherish or care for, without having it physically take up space. Thanks for this video btw, i have a couple junk draws i need to organize now lol.

Efficiency is not about getting rid of a task as quickly as possible, but finding the perfect balance between claim and effort. The more you know about how much better something can be done, the higher rises your claim, the bigger must be your effort. Very often, the time we spend to get a task done on a base level is 3/4 of the time we need, to complete it in a satisfying manner. This means that only the last quarter decides whether our time is squandered or used gainful. That's why improving Si can really be worth it! Take your time or waste your time!

As an ENTP my Si is a switch that i have to turn on and it takes a lot of mental energy to carry out an Si project. Being repressed it basically means im super intense about organization bc i feel like if i can't think of the perfect Si system for something, then there is not a point in doing it-- so my room is either a disaster, or i clean it like a crime scene. Maybe we are generally more "intense" about our functions at the poles.

If I ever doubted my Savior Si this video cleared it up sooo quick! Lmao! I love how you described Si as placing a sense of order and responsiblity in the physical world. I've never heard it worded that way and it is perfect! It literally describes my "at peace" function to a T! The actions you describe all come to me naturally and when they are infringed upon I can become quite cranky. I fall back on my Si to calm me in times of stress. Organizing brings a sense of order to an otherwise chaotic world. Oh how I love my Si! 🤣

I have ISTJ father and ISFJ mother, so it was drummed in my mind since my childhood to take care of my things in a better way. Being INTJ and Ni dominant is really hard, specially in terms of paying attention to little details in life, like doing chores, taking care of my health and paying bills before deadlines. But this early on practice in life made me realize that I can emulate better Si than many of my intuitive fellow beings.
Here is what I do: I try to "rob" my Ni and try to mix it with my inferior Se (by the way, this is also told in one of the videos of Objective personality). What you basically do, is think less and work physically more. Is this thing supposed to be here? How is the best possible way to make sure that it looks like what it has always looked like. If I am wearing clothes, are they ironed properly? Is my hair ok? If I am told about a piece of gossip, is it really true? Have I verified the facts? Do they really fall into place?
As an INTJ, I am quite sure that it will drive many Ni and Ne users mad, but Si is a very important function which is very helpful when confronted with management and organization. Its emulation is imperative, whether we like it or not.

I'm INTP and I've been doing laundry like this. I thought I was getting too obsessive about the right way to do it by following the care codes and doing separate washes for different colours but it just turns out I'm just exercising my Si.
I try to figure out the way to do my dishes in the right order to get them the cleanest too and some people thought I was being picky when I would wash them again if they had marks on them. And I like a clean tea towel.
I've bought tags for my cords so I can tell which thing is plugged in.
I'm currently learning how to fold my socks in a neater way.
Now I just have to pay my bills on time and do all the other stuff.
      At least it's a start.

Your reasoning is sound. However, for Ni dominants, we have to recognize that every moment we spend in Si mode drains us of energy.
So, invest some time in setting up Si systems and routines that we can "automate"

I think I’m in denial as an INTJ of my lack of Si. I go through periods of just horrible clutter, mess and then clean it all at once... usually when I know people are coming over. I don't think Si is about placing a sense of order and responsibility in the physical world or being good at remembering things. What Si actually does though is connecting past experiences or concepts to objects which is why many SJs like collecting stuff or taking photos. That high Si users have a good memory is just a stereotype for most people but the last idea you mentioned seems more like an Si practice but I don't think it's really about organizing as it's pictured in the other tips. I'm an ISFJ and I don't like doing that either (my room is just a mess most of the time and I hate doing laundry too) so even if many SJs do that it's not really what Si is all about. I found a good article about Si though if you want to read about it: medium.com/@yourchillISFJ/introverted-sensing-si-cares-about-impressions-not-reality-402fe0e7054c (Sorry for any grammar mistakes, I'm not a native speaker)

7:36 Well I have Si as a third function and I can say i have love & hate relationship with it. As a kid, I always collect my school id, my sketches and some pictures that has memories attached on it. I also started having a book journal 2 years ago. Its actually more of highlights of whats happening to me and not just to write every day for the sake of writing.
I sometimes write my goals and predict things on some situations. Also became my assessment to be better version of myself on the future. I never had a broken phone because I treat it with respect and not just a gadget and it usually last for like 3-4 years before i replaced it. Thats the reason why i love Si.
Now why I hate it? Most of the time i attached memories on things and places, its not that I choose too but it just an Si thing i guess. I remember bad memories because of a song or places. Its hard for me to let go of things because there’s a sentimental value of it which leads to a messy room sometimes and a pile of things.

Loved your video for several reasons ;1. It's absolute clarity of Si, over other related videos, made me realize that I'm not stuck in life because I'm having Si problems. Proper diagnosis is fundamental to success of any treatment!, 2. I am an INFP with 3rd slot Si, so I do periodically have mild Si issues, and 3. Your great examples will be filed in memory for future use once I am over the current problem. I hope you do pursue a series of videos on delineating the other functions as clearly as you have done with Si because I'm fairly new to the space. Thank you so much!

I remember when I was starting the draft to one of my fantasy novels I wanted to use my imagery as more than just the means of painting a picture in the audience's mind, I wanted to use each individual detail as an important part of the plot itself. I wanted to give grand purpose to every word. If I described a character as having average height their average height would come up in the story later or if I described a character producing a sigh of relief, the significance of them sighing in relief as opposed to a different type of sigh would come up. That's what Si is about to me. Appreciating the details and recognizing the individual significance of each one. I hope you might find this useful. Si is really important to me and I hope that people can see it as more than just "We gotta do things by the book."

Yeah... no... i do not see me practicing it yet :) - i guess i am not ready.
    1)
Sure that cord thing - awesome! My TE is happy :). But i will probably do it few times and after some time it will all get back to all bunch of untangable mess again. So short term - doable but will require much energy to keep it long term.
    2)
The long term laundry like habit - yes! This is great. My NI says this will benefit in long run and save a lot of time. Lets do it! But then SE might be like "yeah whatever... it all gets clean anyway, so why bother". NI alternative plan: lets invent clothes that do not require laundry at all - like they self clean themselves during nighttime or something. I wonder... maybe silver would be good material since it auto cleans germs... hmmm... what else do we need to make this happen?... (you see where it is going)
    3)
The thing with keeping items? Sadly i do not see myself doing this at all. I just do not see the point. Past is the past - lets get what good can benefit from it towards the future:
    - TE - just remember what works and what does not and we are good - remember conclusions not whole events
    - FI - if someone was important - just remember the smile or maybe their eyes or specific sentence. No need items or pictures for that - they are obsolete
if i would keep a thing or two - they would land in a box that i would open once every X time when cleaning and then think "huh... its still here... i totally forgot about it... ok back to the box..."
I mean - i totally understand that maybe having a little SI would not hurt but at this moment it would cost me too much energy - have other things more important to work on :).
So far my favorite functions are:
    - NI + NE - yes of course intuitive and they combo really well too :).
    - FI - great value system, charming and sweet (or chaotic and energetic), also very genuine - love it.
    - Ti / TE - both have good use and usually supplement each other.
    - SE - i like it to be honest but sometimes it is just too much.
    - SI - i just do not get this one. Sure it exists but like in another world :). Mostly neutral.
    - FE - i literally have war with this one. It is too invasive and manipulative.

I am an INFJ and glad my (si) and (se) is fairly good. I think because my mother is highly conscientous and she is a physical person so I was taught to be aware of the physical world even though I do still struggle with being present sometimes. When I was a child, I was quite active and was lucky enough to do a lot of outdoor&indoor activities such as ( swimming, badminton, pingpong, ballet, fishing, cooking, painting, gardening) quite a dexterous gal. Then I become inactive as I turned into my early teens *puberty hits* and then covid comes and my memory gradually starts to get bad (I become forgetful). Perhaps it has to do with my lifestyle as well. So I continue to do some excercise, eating healthier meals, and what not.

I find that journaling nightly about the things going on in my day helps my interoverted functions (Fi and Si.) it’s bearable because Fi is easy for me to use so if I link a weak function like Si with a strong function like Fi then journaling is fine. (Enfp here.) I also write down what I eat and how much I spend every day in a journal I keep in the same place at night. Low Te and Si shows up in my life when I get possessed by an urge to organize my “disgusting” room. Si shows up because I measure my life chronologically by events that have happened to me

I was reflecting on how well I take care of things and I admittedly realized I don't do it that well... my mom however, an ISTJ is so good at keeping things super nice. Idk how she does it. The only things I think I have consciously have cared about are my childhood books. (They provided a world where I could let my Ni free and wander around fanatical, abstract worlds) but I do occasionally have to reorganize them. Also my memory is SOOOO bad. Like right now with social distancing my part time job is focused on handling orders over the phone. And names of customers are pretty important in this task. As an INTJ, I got to the conclusion a long time ago people do not care about what you wear as long as it isn't something extravagant and even if they do try to judge your phisical appearance, they focus on your face, posture, gestures and physique, not the clothes. So you can wear the same two damn basic outfits throughout the whole year, wash everything with a single chore once a week, save water and electricity, save the planet, save money, save time for working out, and people will see your good health, good posture and muscles and won't give a flying F about the fabric, color and brand of your outfit.

My Si projects have been mostly to clean my room and only keep things that I am attached to not just everything ever. Another Si project that I work on is Abstract art, however instead of being free formed I will set rule such as "this color can only go here" or I will draw with pencil my idea first and make myself stick to my original plan and see it through to the end rather than letting my second spot Ne go crazy with "NEW NEW NEW."

I have a messy drawer which I will organize. keep my makeup, jewelery and hair items in it. Jewels are all mixed in a single small box, since I travel a lot. It always get tangled. So for my long term project I will consider how to better store and clean it since it is all silver/gold which could last me a really long time.
My mother learned me the habit of separating colors for washing.

Very interesting thoughts on the Si projects, I’ve had similar experience and results:
    1. The solution to laundry is very simple - all my clothes are black and grey. No separation required!
    2. Tied up my chords last week only because when I stood up from my workspace I tripped over them and nearly knocked the entire computer down...lesson well learnt.
As far as an actual “Si project” goes, i organised all my documents by separate labelled files. Before it was just one big pile, which for obvious reasons isn’t great.
    3. Hate stuff. It collects dust and just annoys me, minimalism is the way to go. There a some things I keep for comforting reasons, but those are very few

I feel so called out about the laundry thing xD when I do laundry I just stuff everything in the washing machine, then the dryer without shaking anything out or separating lights or darks. I should probably start doing laundry “properly” but ugh why the extra work just for clothes haha. I totally
get your perspective though. Also whoaa a few months ago I ALSO organized all my electronic cables and got velcro ties for them!! they all hang neatly on some guitar hooks on my wall that also hold my tripods. Fi projects can be a lot of fun. It’s just a matter of making time for them.

This cognitive function is all about taking in concrete information through the five senses, and then drawing on that information to make decisions. For example, before I go to the movies, I will select the film I might be interested in. I will check data from the physical world (reviews of that movie by people I follow and trust, statistics by age, gender, demographics, etc). Once I got enough info from the external world (sensing), I will make the decision of whether or not this particular film is worth my time and money (introverted).

I have Si tertiary. I get these fits of demonic organization thingies. Everything will be sorted in whatever order I deem the most efficient to me(Ti working along). Also I have systems in how and where I store or keep my belongings. I rarely lose anything because I KNOW exactly where I put them. Say for example a passport during a flight, I always put it in the front pocket of my carry on bag. The same pocket. Always. Wallet goes in left (not right) jeans pocket and phone/handkerchief goes in the right.
And I'm extremely disorganised when I'm not doing anything. My stuff is all over the place.
Can you make the next video about self awareness? And how certain types seem to value it over others and whereever you want to go with it, go with it. You're awesome!

People still separate clothes for washing? Wash in cold water--can throw everything in together. Been doing it that way for decades. Of, course, as an INTP, I'm not all that concerned as to how clean they really get. The upper agitator broke--a cheap project I could do in an hour--but of course until I get around to ordering the part and then doing it. Meanwhile been washing clothes without it working and they look okay to me.

INFP so Si is tertiary for me. As a kid, I was terrible at doing laundry, keeping a calendar, cleaning my room -- maybe developing Ne kind of ungrounded. As I've gotten older I have gotten better. Now, I like to cook for myself. Even when there is food already made, I find it soothing to be deliberate about the ingredients, smell them, and make the food in the special way that I like it. I like hot dogs and always cut up the onions really fine because I just like it that way. I couldn't eat a hot dog made by someone else cause I just like it the way I like it.

I have to get someone else to evaluate this at some point but I usually come up INTJ/ENTJ for quizzes. That means I have Si at like the 7th or 8th function. That doesn't surprise me. I'm 47, and neat and tidy isn't the way to describe my apartment, but it's getting better. I think Si projects are a great idea. The Te in me wants things to be more efficient, so it's finding the systems to replace the old habits. I probably will never be at the point of knowing this screwdriver is used for this list of tasks and its history. And the memory thing I find interesting as well. I usually remember things by patterns and logic/reasoning, dates don't stick in my head so well unless I have a logical order of life events to go with them. Honestly, that happened more in my childhood with knowledge being build on knowledge all the time.

Your way of doing laundry is my way of doing laundry. I try to avoid buying things that can't take it.
There are some things I don't put in the dryer though. let them air dry instead. That's the biggest concession I make. Otherwise, I wash new jeans several times with only other blue stuff before I wash them with light stuff. (Well, I do *now*. XDD) The rest of the time I wash everything together. My parents tried to teach me to separate stuff when I was a kid, and I used to, but when I didn't live with them anymore I no longer cared :P
I do, however, respect and care for things like my computer, my car, my furniture (at least the pieces that are actually nice). I like nice things and I like them to stay nice.
And I have always kept a box or a space in a drawer or whatever for small momentos. I have things like movie tickets, plane tickets, rocks I picked up on the beach on a vacation....and when I go and look through it once per decade I've forgotten 95% of the stuff XDDDD
I wonder about the real relationship between what we call Ni and what we call Si. This stuff is all in theory space, it's not real measurable stuff (no, observing someone's behavior is not measuring the actual cognitive mechanisms in the brain). Like, I'm pretty sure I'm an INTJ (although I can if I go down the rabbit hole make myself a convincing argument as to why that's wrong and I'm *actually* x type, where x is almost any introverted type, or ENTJ....but INTJ is the best consistent fit over time) and I'm also very, very much like my father in many, many ways....but I can't for the life of me figure out if he's an INTJ or an ISTJ, he does things regularly that seem like both types. It makes me wonder if there actually is something else going besides two very distinct, different introverted perception styles. What is the actual neurological difference between these two styles of thinking? Are they actually, literally different things or not?
This is the kind of stuff I wonder about when I start thinking about MBTI....

Could you confirm what u said around 1:48 - how functions impact u even if they are not in the function stack? People always refer to the inferior function as ur blind spot, demon or shadow - but you had said that even if it’s the 4th function, it is still more present then if it’s not in the top 4. I’m an ENFP with Inferior Si, and I’ve come to notice that it’s very developed in me despite being inferior. Maybe I should be working on a function that’s not there at all, like Ti, right? Is that the point ur making? This must have been brought up before, I just haven’t found any emphasis on it until this video.

    • @InternetLiJo
      @InternetLiJo  4 роки тому

Yes! So there are 8 cognitive functions. You have 4 accessible. Of those 4 you have two saviors (the things you take natural responsibility for without trying) and two you need to always work to improve. The other 4 you do not have, but can "simulate" by learning about them and using the functions you do have together to aid in that simulation.

Why all the emphasis on calling the 4th function a blind spot when the true blind spots are the 4 we aren't paying attention to? I'm just trying to understand why is it always framed like that last one is the 'worst'? is that not unbalanced? I like that you're emphasizing that we should each improve all the functions. That seems more correct.
