Just purchased the adv skin 5 with Salomon new release. Watched the exact same video you made a year ago. Was helpful to make a decision. And now, just found this vid haha
I have both, and my logic is that even if the 5 works for 90% of what I do, the 12 works for 100% of what I do. At this point the 5 is just a spare. Also do be careful on sizing. They do not size the same, meaning a M in one is not necessarily a M in the other. I have the same size in both (I think S) and while the 5 is great, the 12 fits just a tad tight. It's ok, but if I ever replace it I'll size up. There's enough range that it might not matter.
I would have to respectfully disagree. The 10% you are talking about may not be worth the added cost to some. And the sizing for me, as well as my wife with the women’s sizes have been spot on. Have a great day
@@bradfinntrains But when that 10% comes up, you're stuck buying a new pack (like I did). And then it's not $20 saved. If you know you'll never ever need, or even have good use for, the 12, sure, save $20. I'm guessing $20 is a pretty small portion of what most of us spend on trail running. A lot of people spend that on gels for one training run. They money I'd save skimping on a pack, I make up for by making my own gels 🙂.
Thank you for these reviews! I was lucky enough to find someone selling the ADV 12 on FB Marketplace for $80 and it was brand new! Sure I wish it was a black but for the price I can deal with the color red. haha
The bad part is that newest version doesn't have soft hem on a edges anymore. The scratch mesh is folded over and stiched, creating very sharp edge that rubs neck, and in my case, collar bones if you don't wear shirt or shirt with wider neck opening. I have pervious ADV 12 and love it then got 5 this year and rubbed me raw on my collar bone. I ran my fingers along the edge, trying to figure out why. It was like sharp plastic fiber sticking out. I haven't noticed that design has changed.
Not sure what you mean. I just got a brand new 5L and it’s identical to my old one. Maybe you got a defect. Although, I would never expect not to chafe if i wore it bareback. I’ve never met anyone that has worn any pack for an ultra with no shirt on and didn’t get dominated. Water is not a lubricant.

Thanks for this. I find the Salomon line up pretty confusing. This has made my decision a lot easier.
Glad it was helpful!

@@wk633How don you make your own gels? Do you have a recipe? My training is amping up and gels are going to become pricey for all of these long runs.
Thanks for the comparison. Currently have the ADV Skin 5.
Right on. Amazing pack for sure

Yeah. You won’t see the color anyways. Lol

This is happening to me too! Even with a top on, it scratches up my neck, otherwise great. Did you find a solution?
Love my 5!
It’s a great pack
I am exactly between XL and L with 109cm measurement. What do you recommend? Smaller or Larger? Thanks
