Resolution in the face of hardship, calm in the eye of the storm, and a beer opener that works. These attributes I commend to all of us, especially when the wind rises to 5.5 knots.
love your vids, so ordered Rarotonga. Best fiction read I have held up in years and suits my sailing inclination just fine. Thanks!
yeaaaaaaaaaaaa...........my sailing philosopher is back........the world still turns.
I have to admit I thought about this gentleman a lot in the last year. Was he sailing to Hawaii? Was he staying home, wherever that may be? He's like a grandpa (and I'm too old to have one of those) that pops into my mind once in a while.
I don't even sail but I love to come along for the wit and good vibes.
Welcome again to the World of Jazz, tools and sailing with a Master of the written Word and Fable!!
All the best Richard.
Your videos are always a joy to watch. Wonderful voice overs with an excellent music choice make for quite then pair. One of the few times the youtube algorithm really did it's job.
The number one of sailing poetry.
Sir, Your wit leaves me in stitches! Your lifetime of sailing knowledge has made its way to my boat and I thank you for it. I anxiously look forward to every video you grace with world with. Good health to you.
Just the tonic for a lazy sunday winter's evening.Thank you.
Listening to your "Alone Together" now. Haven't sailed in 30 years but have recently spent my covid time studying the proposition of soloing or, more accurately, meandering around the globe over the next decade. You are inspiring.
Exactly my position. Havent sailed in 30 years and seriously considering it again. Studying up and calculating. My thoughts are from Oregon to San Francisco,Hawaii,Alaska, Oregon. Quite a way to go, though before I could be ready for that. I'll try to get into some sailing lessons this summer for starters and meet sailors who will invite me along for some sailing. Then get my own boat.
@@diyoregonnowtexas9202 When you get to SF let me know and you'll have crew the rest of the way.
@DIY Oregon. That's funny, here for the same! I have not sailed for 20 years and are also seriously considering getting back on the oceans. I used to sail a 28 foot sailboat on the Baltic sea around the beautiful small island of Bornholm. Now living in Indiana and unfortunately too far from the ocean.
I like the story telling calm atmosphere of C. Williams and was happy to see the notification today on a new video from him. Keep them coming please.
@@cmoreoverland6739 Absolutely!
Me TOO!! Got a best childhood buddy who helped build the America’s Cup winner ~15 years ago. We demolished several sailboats in our years of pushing too hard and redesigning. God I miss it.
I’m still in fantasy stage. It’ll be a while before I have capital.
Happy to crew once my bebegirl is gone!!
Thank you for taking me along, and I never had to leave my easy chair.
i was just thinking, "...this guy really reminds me of that flying fish pancake guy that solo'd twice out to my home in hawaii..."
by golly it is you! glad you're still getting soggy!
Why is no one commenting on the shoe change🥰🥰🥰😍😍????
Just like my main man Mr Roger's when I was 5 years old.
Well played good sir. Well played.
Roller furling line and main sheetS are totally different. Your single braid will wear out any break in real conditions. Leave it til it breaks and put the Original one back on
Always Great when you drop by, neighbor. Keep doing that. A bit more frequently, perhaps.
Pure class as always. Thanks!
A Hendricks Gin special delivery there, dry, with a twist and easy on the tongue in cheek.
Good to see more videos of you sailing around Marina Del Rey. Your audiobook inspired me to dream of sailing to Hawaii from Marina Del Rey someday and I joined Marina Sailing, renting a Beneteau 323 a couple times so far. Stay safe and healthy and keep philosophizing!
Yaaaaay, what an evening! New Christian Williams video is out, I have a glass of Teran in my hand... !! Brilliant!
I love " lets open up this clown car and see how many clowns come out", that describes my tool chest perfectly. I would have kept the heavier braided rope only because it feels better in my hands.
Great to see you again. Hope you and your family are all doing well. Happy holidays to you all. Looking forward to your next book.
Christian, I really enjoy your videos and your personal insights and philosophizing. Just heard you mention that you aged out of surfing and hanggliding. I find myself on the same life trajectory. Surfer since early teens and hanggliding for nearly twenty years. I gave up sailing 30 years ago for higher adrenaline experiences and now I'm aging back into sailing. Thank you for the added inspiration. Cheers.
Re-evaluating the tools on board my boat.
I can’t wait to leave the rat race and do the things I enjoy. What a calming thing to do.
It’s so good to see your posts Christian Williams, I am fairly new to sailing, 3 years, 3 years of nothing but boat maintenance, sailing & learning,
But for me you are the daddy,
Brilliant posts, you definitely have the experience that I would love to have, but perhaps next life time
Thank you
Loved the episode. Thank you for the Mr. Rogers music. It was very befitting of your videos. I've always liked your music choices especially this one. Full sails to you.👍
Christian Williams is the Mr. Rogers for adults
Thank you, Christian for your wisdom and philosophy on sailing - and life!
Love the clown car analogy, neighbor.
Good to see a new video from you. I read your book and found it raw , honest, and inspiring.
Great cut to the piano player!! :) I enjoy your videos a lot! Fair winds!
Love your tool storage bags!
I can only like this once?
You sir, are a vlogging poet.
Hemingway weeps with jealousy.
Bravo.
Another wonderful video gentleman sailor.
I know that feeling well, getting bored with life in Winter so find a way to go to the boat and putter. Being on the boat in winter feels like you're getting away with something.
yup
Like an addict hiding his stash and high from loved ones.
Your videos are a huge inspiration!
Yes neighbor you brought me joy to see you again maybe even a little tear and some Goosebumps life is good when I see you you make me laugh and think about the wonderful things of life thank you oh by the way please don't take so long on your next voyage.
Even just the music would make your videos worth watching, without the wisdom....and the philosophy....and the poetry...oh, and and the sailing.
Dear Christian, it's so wonderful to see you back aboard. Where have you been? I hope you are in good health. I've missed your elegant prose and sharp wit. Each sea voyage, however short or long, is paragraph in a very enjoyable book to me; I'm not looking forward to the last page, so keep 'em coming. You know, the real measure of a man, and a seaman too, is how well his tool kit has been prepared, and yours shows evidence of a long and thoughtful process of evolution. Can't wait for your next outing. Take care.
Bloody hell, you have got enough tools on that boat to fix anything that's goes wrong with the Queen Elizabeth.
I thought ur a author with a hobby for sailing..in reality your a master yachtsman ..ur narrative skills to sailing ⛵️ skills ...know how ..mind boggling 🎉😮
You’re an artist. Thank you.
You are an absolute legend sir. I look forward to your stories and bits of wisdom as much as I did with my grandfather. You are an oasis in this odd world. Thank you.
Wonderful video! I have that same "clown car" of tools, never able to find the one I'm looking for!
This is so fantastic, in the way you put your words and your never ending humour is a real relief now in the black November. ❤️
Loving the Johnny Costa “Won’t you be my neighbor” excellent choice of music, as always!
Christian ur narrative in this video .would leave ..Ernest Hemingway... old man and the sea 🌊 rolling in his grave ..super video 🎉
Plenty of clowns 🤡 in that car. I just love the extra sound on top of the macerator noise. Phhhhhtt!
LMAO ...Im from the North East of England and i know Mr Rogers ...great opening ..love your channel marra !1
Nice video just like my maiden tour @o'day22 First tour 39.8Nm aprox74,5 km outboard motor marine 14hp at 17liter gasolie
You paint a hard picture of the life on the sea.......However, I am going to give it a whirl.....I love your vlog and your sense of humor cracks me up!!! Great set of tools!!!!! I am going to copy your storage technique.........
Love your toolbox area behind the settee. I’m exactly the same but UNDER the settee. 😂😂😂
Tools...can't imagine that need, neither on my boats--ok, there were exceptions there-- or in my yard, where three weather stations are mounted and measuring. I may need to reconsider...
Hello!
Just found your videos. Very informative and enjoyable to watch. I look forward to seeing more.
Take care
Truly classic! BTW, at risk of having my manliness challenged, it is possible to have too many tools aboard. Ok, I've braced myself. LMAO.
Superb presentation. Thanks for producing it. Pete, UK.
Christian, I absolutely love how you think and I love your videos. You do such a nice job in telling your story and I just love to watch it. AND you are one HELL of a sailor. One of the best in my opinion. Hope you are well my friend.
Wiser for watching, and thirsty for more...Hendricks that is.
Regatta braid is the bomb, unless you loose sleep over stretch. If so ... look at Salsa braid. It is the Bomb Digity!
As for boat line-- once a year throw all the line in the washing machine. PRESTO! Feels brand new. None of the one braid, two braid, three braid, four stuff.
I like this video! Makes me wonder if Mr. Rogers wouldn't mind leaving his "neighborhood" for some peace & serenity being alone at sea, sailing a yacht like yours...I got a grin of your beginning; you taking off your cardigan & putting on your sailing shoes, just like Mr.Rogers does on his show... Funny!!
Have you ever read “Sailing Alone Around The World” by Captain Joshua Slocum? Just curious
I've just watched All Is Lost again and realised that Robert Redford's narration style at the beginning has exactly the same phrasing and voice as your good self . So come on... who copied who? :)
What a great jewell of a video. Sitting here watching the sun come up over Lake Michigan in August of '21 and coming across this piece. Brings back memories of my days of sailing out of Marina del Rey. Beer can Wednesdays. Such great fun and this short piece brings it all back. Add to it Mr. Roger's theme and I would suggest a new, slightly altered name. "Escape to the Neighborhood," as the open ocean can be, as it was in this glimpse, a calm and friendly neighborhood in which to be.. Thanks for sharing.
What a great touch. Fred playing from the studio, in the bow... somewhere.
Although I've watched this video a time or two before, I watched it again to get a badly needed "Christian Williams" fix on what's a cold winter day here in Mobile, Alabama. Would love to see your next video.....waiting with baited breath.
Pretty snarky old man. I love his "I'm gonna eat whatever I want" diet. When I'm 80 I hope I am this cool
What's nice about music subscriptions is that I can call up any jazz musician and song cited in your book (the philosophy of sailing) while reading, and get a sense of what you were listening to in your text.....
Christian, I’m 61 years old and would love to be you when I grow up. I would love to have you teach me to sail so I can be a bad ass like you when I’m ready. Please get in touch on your next Oahu trip as I would love to get to know you. Aloha
I love listening to your thoughts and watching this...
wonderful video, delightfully told! Subscribed!
Unlike the numerous sailing and boating channels, this is a "yachting" channel, something Christian seems to understand very well.
This Gent is as charming as they come. Great taste in Jazz too. Would love to have dinner with him, Tom Waits and David Lynch one night soon. I'm tickled at the thought of our banter. Golly.
Tongue-in-cheek has been appropriately weaponized.
Congrats on your new turd slicer. I LOLed. Your studious irreverence is awesome.
So funny..... "every sail boat requires lots of tools and nowhere to put them, so let's open the door to this clown car and see how many colwns come out"... I shall remember this every single time I'm trying to put away my tools, I say but away as getting them out always seems so much easier..
Hi Christian - probably had this one before. Do you think the “risks” associated with are spade rudder are well founded?
Looks like you have a claw anchor. Just curious if you also cary a fluke anchor. I know you are on the West Coast. Maybe the waters are not as muddy as here down in Miami.
Thank you Sir you are a wonderful I dream one day of sailing but till then I love watching your videos
That’s was nice. Thank you. But not so sure about the new main sheet. Try putting you old main sheet in a bucket with some fabric softener. It may loose a bit of strength but it will still be plenty strong and the fabric softener does wonders. Leave it over night and then give it a good rinse. Good luck. Stay safe.
I read a news release tonight that said a Japanese freighter lot 1900 containers overboard into the Pacific close to Hawaii. The news said the contains are adrifting in several directions. Please let your yachty friends know to watch out for them.
Loving discovering you..beautiful music
4:28 you caught something in the distance Mr Williams..
I just started as a tugboat deckhand. I like the velcro tool rolls, pretty compact
of course Fred Rogers music is part of your collection. Bravo!
I absolutely loved the intro! ...and of course the entire video :)
Hi Christian, so what's this expedition you are preparing for?
I love Mr William’s neighbourhood! My boat is in the cradle till spring on Huron so enjoying your vids thank you.
I believe that's called "on the hard!" You're welcome 😊
I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos!
Way to go cousin! You can never have enough tools, but finding the time to use them is the trick.
Can tell by the sound? Sounded like you eviscerated it internally 😄
finally a sailing channel where i dont have to turn off the sound due to terrible music
"Would you be mine, could you be my.... won't you be my neighbor"
Doesn't matter what we do - as long as it's sailing.
Good to see and hear you again Christian - planning to solo to Hawaii again next year?
All you're videos are amazingly tasteful and enjoyable however, I feel only envy
Buy a boat?
We escape the neighborhood - Because we can! Nuf said.
I would enjoy listening to you read a phone book. Keep em coming …
The irony is dripping; so wet all around yet so 'dry' on deck ;)
By the way is it safe to say you named your boat after Monk? Or is it my wild imagination?
Mr. Rogers theme song just kills me. Every time.
You want to be so profound . Keep trying, hoping. I will too. But far frown it
