Hello dear subscribers! As always, thank you for the comments. I read all of them. This short film has been a long time in the making. I wrote the script for it two years ago, when I was working on a tall ship in the Mediterranean. I was broke, overworked, sweaty, far away from anyone I knew, and disappointed with the job I had flown halfway across the world for. I was feeling unhappy. Why was I even there? I sat down with my journal to try and figure it all out. Why am I so (sometimes irrationally) attracted to sailing?? This was the result. I posted the journal entry to Facebook, and Aladino read it early on on our relationship. Later, when we started with UA-cam, he urged me to turn it into a video. So, I did, and this is the result! Thankyou for this beautiful little film. I hear you, for me its trees(nature) and hills and my horse offering stillness, beauty, challenges,an inner comfort, a connection to something greater and a connection to something you can't describe and only can feel.. This was delightful.. thankyou.I understand even if its not the sea for me xo
I have been a sailor for a decade, restoring inexpensive sailboats and learning how to operate and sail them. Each year I seem to meet new challenges, sometimes with different sailboats - but the pull is always the same - for adventure, for freedom, for independence, and to experience nature's awesome beauty. It's so thrilling when after so much effort of these come together on a journey. I have never let inexperience or lack of funds stop me - the pull is too great. Your video is very inspiring to me as it articulates and echoes the yearnings of my soul - and it is inspiring to know I am part of a community of people who also feel this pull. It is undeniable. It is Life in Motion! Thank you!
Finding your passion is the hardest thing.... but when you do it is the most rewarding. I found Motor Racing and "Worked" in it for 27 years. Traveled the world and loved every minute... Not a job but a passion fulfilled.....:-)))) xx
On the subject of sailboats offering Maya's quest in life, she says, and I quote, "Sailboats offer everything I am seeking. . . (best part) boiled down into a thick reduction of over saturated emotions." Maya, it is partly for your fantastic use of language that I became a a patron on patreon.
What a great little documentary on the psychology of sailing! You have found your calling! Everyone else can benefit when someone does what they are good at and love. You may go far in this endeavor! (Like all the way around the world!)
Your voice is the most relaxing sound i heard in a long time! Your description of sailing/life is absolutely inspiring! Either you are 20 or 50years old, nothing is to late! Why think about it.....when you can do it! I really like your boat, your music ( the dual with the guy on guitar in the sailboat in...i cant recall. ) it was epic! Im 32years old...wish i could do this in my early 20`s instead of mid 30`..........peace!
I love your story, because it is what I long for, it is my dream, and I will continue to watch you guys from time, to time, so I can learn from you both, you are both a great inspitation to my life, and so I must say a big thanks, for all you wards of incouragement, wishing both all the happyness in your futures guys :)
It takes a lot of time, effort and thought to produce something so eloquent, simple and beautiful as this piece. Your talents and energy continue to amaze and beguile.
That's why I want to sail too. Not adventure, but solitude, peace, self-reliance to a degree - but most importantly to see, to feel, to meet people, places and cultures. I still will work, which will hamper some of these goals. You made the right choices, and made them early in life.
What I find truly amazing is the variety of "sailing" channels. I would think they would kind of eventually prove to be all alike. That has not been the case. Each one brings another facet to the jewel of riding the sea. To pick one as the best or most liked would be just as foolish as picking the best facet on a diamond in a ring. Your donation to the gem really sparkles and brings that flash of sparkling light to the days I get them. Your video's are just like that flash of the sunlight on the crest of the next wave before it meets up with the bow of my boat of life. Thank you
Love the podcasts you put up here on you tube. Thank you so much. The narrating is gripping and intelligent, inviting and thought provoking. Please do keep it up I look forward to continued watching.
Straight, honest, thoughtful, and sensitive. You are a thinker (which can be a curse) a lover, and passionate. As one ages, ones “pulls” in life changes. It’s easy to see that you love life, people, music, art, and are excited with new experiences. Don’t ever lose your passion for life. It really comes through in your videos. Your short films are certainly the most artistic and lyrical, and therefore most profound and love provoking of all the UA-camrs we follow. Thank you for expressing your heart. You have put to words perhaps our own reasons for choosing the sailor’s life. We look forward to the next episode whenever the spirit moves you.
I've been watching your Rhone River and French canal videos today and I was struck by your beautiful writing and your positive, happy approach to life. I can't write like you. I'm a retired Engineer and IT professional. We tend not to be poetic when writing up the results of experiments or project documents. But I'm sure that I'm not the only one who loves the music of poetic writing. My addiction to sailing is different from yours. It's not the lure of the sea, but the aesthetics of a well-designed A-Class catamaran hull slicing through the water with minimum disturbance. Getting the mast rotation, luff tension and sail twist just right so that there's perfect laminar flow across the lee side of the sail from top to bottom is an important part of the experience. The windward side tell-tails close to the mast are allowed to flutter a bit, but they cannot get agitated. Perfect balance. With a high aspect ratio sail like an A-Class, the main sheet is used to control twist. The traveler controls the angle. You're out on the trapeze, going to windward in 8 knots of breeze, and the windward hull is just kissing the water. All you're leaving behind are ripples. Magic. Then you're on a reach in 20 kts, you're still out on the trapeze and the boat is flying. There's no bow wave, but there's a thin film of water coming from the bows that's about two metres high by the time it reaches the mast. It's a magic experience. After I got a bit old, the class allowed foiling dagger boards. Flying a metre above the water at 29 kts. Maybe I could organise to get myself reincarnated?
"I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky, And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by; And the wheel’s kick and the wind’s song and the white sail’s shaking, And a grey mist on the sea’s face, and a grey dawn breaking." John Masefield.

A very well thought out and made film, There are those who go onto to water for greed, to conquer other nations etc. There are those who go onto the water to compete, to boast their prowess or to show those boasters that They are better for not boasting. There are those who go onto the water to explore and seek new places that few have ever been to. Then there are those who go onto the water to meet others, to see the sights, smell, and touch this wonderful World of ours, to make friends along the way and tread gently, do no harm and spread the Love they have to the rest of us living vicariously through them. These latter, (and I include Yourself and Aladino amongst them) are the reason I enjoy Boatbuilding and Sailing videos so much, and have become a Patron to a few of you. My age and Body is against me ever joining you in this number, but I can travel the world through you.
There are many who compete for the sheer joy of it. My experience, going back to when I was 10, has been with single and two-handed dinghies (e.g. OK Dinghy and Enterprise) and single-handed catamarans (A-Class). Boasters were tolerated and made welcome, but not taken as role models. At the end of a race we'd help each other load boats onto trailers, etc. and go off to have a cup of tea and talk about the race. I competed at a high level (world and national championships) in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Some of us went on to greater things e.g. Glenn Ashby (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glenn_Ashby ) - 17 times World Champion, America's Cup winning skipper in 2017. Or Simon McKeon (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simon_McKeon ) - Little America's Cup winner and World Speed Sailing record holder. Most of us just enjoyed the competition, enjoyed the fellowship, and made life-long friends.

Thank you for saying so beautifully what I’ve felt for so many years. You’re living the life some have wanted and never pursued. I’ll be following your adventures!
Thank you Maya for sharing you desires and realising a portion of your dreams. You and your husband have a wonderful bond and love as share life's experiences.
I just discovered your channel and I am really loving your philosophy. I live on my sailboat and just explore the West coast of British Columbia. It is such a spiritually satisfying life style.
Aye to be sure , you have articulated so well the sentiments and thoughts of mariners past and present and unto those that follow in the future. Excellent commentary and thought we can all draw on. Fair winds and following seas
your life and adventures and your way of telling the story are so beautiful and romantic, puts in a mind of of great authors. Robert Louis Stevenson, Mark Twain, Bernard Moitessier absolutely love. your story's. thank you so much for sharing.fair winds to both of you.
i just cannot get over how eloquent you are! Even when you were on the ship in the mediterranean & feeling unhappy & sad, you have to admit you were still learning, this is the only answer i can give you for that. I too grew up near the ocean & have always felt pulled towards it. Whether just going to the beach on off time or watching the shrimp boats far away from land. I always wondered what was going on in those boats, what people were thinking, what they were doing, ect. The pull of the ocean is indescribable. I don't know what it is. Thank you so much for this video & tell aladino i said thank you for encouraging you!!!! fair weather, following seas & safe journey's!
This is me! I’ve yet to set foot on a sailboat nor have I hoisted a sail. Yet this is me. Soon I hope to slip the moorings of this landed berth and sail free. Thank you so very much for this!
All well thought out and spoken, a good story teller you are. We also liked what Bernard said that you quoted at 5:17 that is true, But also, “Don’t forget an leave GOD out of this” and all of your pondering life...!! ✅
I used to live on the south east side of San Francisco Bay. When I needed to get away I would drive across to Redwood City and walk and dream as I walked up and down past all the beautiful boats. I dreamed of having a boat for over 25 years. Finally the day came when i got my boat and I've been building her from a bare hull for 8 years. I'm almost ready to re-launch her in Southern California. I'm eager, I'm a little scared, I'm ..... I've been a land lubber for 64 years with only a dream. Now my dream is about to come true. ... I regularly watch 4 or 5 cruising couples here on UA-cam but I have to say you are by far my favorite. I hope some day when you get to the Pacific that our bows will cross. ... I love your music, especially you Celtic. You told in one of your videos where to find more of your music, but I can't find it. Can you please share the link again?
Congratulations on your soon to be realized dream!! That is wonderful news! I’m so glad you were able to fulfil it, even if it took many years and a lot of work. I’m also really glad that you found our channel, and that you take the time to leave such lovely comments. To answer your question about music, I used to have another UA-cam channel called TheMusicianGirl1. I haven’t posted anything on it for ages. However, this spring I will be releasing an album, so stay tuned!!
What a beautiful visual essay; deeply thought and excellently displayed. You have explained to me, my own feelings towards the sea and sailing. Thank you and fair winds.
Only you can if you embrace it by being there by yourself, .....you and sailing....if you are their with your boyfriend or girlfriend or any friend you don't get it P.S. Your poetry is top notch by the way .....but till you experience it by yourself it's just words without passion for the ocean for the sails and what it stirs up inside you. Good Luck!
Sooooooo well spoken echoing my sentiments as I remember my many years and thousands of miles of peace and joy brought to me by Mother Nature and her seas! Gracias🙏🏼
"as slowly as possible" well said. What's the point of sailing around the world if not to see that world. Sailing has taught me patience, something I never had before. Even if I said I did, it'd be false. To move slow is a joy many can miss. The answer to the question, "don't you get bored?" is simple "no." Someone said to me recently, when showing me the launch movie of his home-build sailboat, that "it's slow and long because if it were fast you might miss something." The whole story might drag on but it's in the tiny moments of reflection and pause (time) where we find what we are really searching for; what pulls us. Thanks for sharing your perspective :) R
Thank you so much! I admire your channel as well, it’s so lovely that you found the time to watch our little channel. Your observations are beautiful, thank you for sharing. -Maya

Thank you for your video, I've felt the pull ever sense I was a little boy, I felt it strongest my yrs in the navy, but after that time I was beached and landlocked, Thanks to you and others I found the path back to the beach and starting the journey all over again. Thank You.
I can’t believe it’s only been six days since I posted my first video of yours on FB. And now I’m posting this one, because your stories remind me of my time at sea when I worked on a small commercial fishing boat, sometimes 200 miles out to sea. Falling in love with the ocean and it’s beauty and during bad storms that we were trying to out run been scared we wouldn’t make it back to land. But now I’m an old woman who has her wonderful memories because of the high impact they had on me emotionally, the memories are still clear and vibrant. You are a smart young woman to follow your heart. Thank you again for sharing them with us. I too have always loved to read true adventure stories. Did you read the one of the couple who Trek 4000 miles by boot, raft and ski? Called: A Long Trek Home.
The quality of your videography and editing are definitely improving! Can’t wait to see where the wind takes you and how much your channel grows this time next year. 💕

hello Maya, all your videos are a masterpiece of lyrik about dreams, feelings and emotions, so wonderful, Each could be the text of a song. I am touched deeply by your word’s, and you make me feeling sitting beside you, overwhelmed by the colours of the sundown. Of course I will get a patreon and am looking foreward to your next video. Maya... Bless you young lady, for being such a wonderful storyteller! I love your perspective on these age old questions, your effort and creativity shine through. I have often thought these thoughts too, and am sometimes wondering about the Pull. Well, you have one guaranteed friend on an island called Gambier and I loved the shots from Gibsons too. Now all I need is to find that special one who shares the same dreams and aspirations as I do, one who feels the Pull... Bryan from Vancouver (Gambier)
Wow, what a great video story. I think that I have found my new favorite YT channel. You wrote that script 2 years ago ? That was just an amazing 7 minutes that I thoroughly enjoyed. Fantastic video editing and your script is just outstanding. You must have some literary background or you must read alot or maybe both who knows, but your story telling is very well thought out and detailed and extremely relatable. Love your simplicity and your passion for life. You are just a treasure and thanks for letting the rest of us tag along on your journey to visiting all the bays in the world. Cheers !
Thank you so much for this wonderful and supportive comment! I am so happy that the video resonated with you, and I’m so glad that you found our channel. -Maya
You have such a beautiful way with words in each of your videos and this is no exception. You have the unique skill to draw, at least my, attention alongside your passion, attuning it to this desire to sail. May your sails always be full and may the wind take you both on many adventures.
love this Maya , the only way it could be perfect would be an intro and outro of you interacting with your fiddle its so good it is sadly missed fairwinds young lady
Very eloquent. Makes me glad there are young people like you. 👍🙂 EH! Just because we use that word at home sometimes .... never heard you use that word ... EH! 😁
What is it makes a man follow the sea? Ah, you may ask me! Says Billy Magee. Stick to it hungry and stick to it cold, Stick to it after he's broken and old. Freeze in the Forties an' sweat on the Line, Shiver and burn in the rain an' the shine. Stick it until he can't stick it no more - Curse it and leave it for something ashore - Chuck up his shore job an' follow the sea - Search me if I know! - Says Billy Magee From "Follow the Sea" by C.Fox Smith 😉
It is place and circumstances that surround me that inspire certain type of moods. In a regular day to day modern life, place and circumstance dont change much, and so that sense of mood doesnt take on the contrasts of novelty. This sense of mood lays dormant. On the ocean under sail, place and circumstances are forever unique and that sense of mood forever shifting in novel shades of feeling and emotion. I have memories of days sailing that are etched with unique and exquisite moods, that I savor. I wonder at how my mind can generate such a set of feelings.

You are a very eloquent young lady. Your future lies in the arts. Look forward to your first book.
This video really resonated with me. It is very genuine and inspiring!!! Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful video and story!
very nice to bring it in such a form we all can relate too... I wish I had been so free in my soul when i was younger
Beautiful! this really resonated with me, I had tears in my eyes as I listened.
Stunning imagery, perfectly matched music, and beautiful words!
That little film beautifully encapsulates my random and disjointed thoughts about why I've always needed to sail.Thank you.
Thanks for taking me along on the extraordinary journey that is your life.
Thought provoking and inspirational both at once, well done ...
Incredibly soulful and very moving. You found words for the unutterable. Thank you both.
I loved this film. I watched it twice and I'll play it again later. Thank you for sharing
Thank you for the video. It helps me understand my feelings for life on the water.
Merci ma belle, your words articulate well your thoughts. Sheer bloody poetry, t'is.
Lovely words and feelings. You have a safe harbour here when you pass by.
your life and adventures and your way of telling the story are so beautiful and romantic, puts in a mind of of great authors. Robert Louis Stevenson, Mark Twain, Bernard Moitessier absolutely love. your story's. thank you so much for sharing.fair winds to both of you.
What is wrong with the people that gave this a thumbs down? Awesome story and video!
Beautiful beautiful beautiful
i just cannot get over how eloquent you are!
We also liked what Bernard said that you quoted at 5:17 that is true,
But also, “Don’t forget an leave GOD out of this” and all of your pondering life...!! ✅
This moved me to tears. Thanks for creating this gem. Maybe even some of the more open minded land lubbers can understand!
What a beautiful film.
Well done! Nice view from the top of the mast between many other gentle clips.
Absolutely love your story telling
I'm watching this beautiful video for the 4th time ... you bring tears to my eyes.
Four times!! I am so honored!! Thank you!!
Great video and channel. Love your narration. I know what you mean about Self Reliance. It's a powerful feeling.
What a beautiful visual essay; deeply thought and excellently displayed. You have explained to me, my own feelings towards the sea and sailing. Thank you and fair winds.
We enjoy following your story... this is an awesome video...
Gracias🙏🏼
Wow you have wonderful self insights. Water is my gravity too.
Thanks for sharing your perspective :)

Thank you so much! I admire your channel as well, it’s so lovely that you found the time to watch our little channel. Your observations are beautiful, thank you for sharing. -Maya
@@SailingMagicCarpet absolutely! I love your story telling :) a patron of ours told us about you two and we've been watching ever since. We were stoked to see you meet up with Simon too! Wishing you guys all the best 💕
Beautifully written, love the journey
Thank you for your video, I've felt the pull ever sense I was a little boy, I felt it strongest my yrs in the navy, but after that time I was beached and landlocked, Thanks to you and others I found the path back to the beach and starting the journey all over again. Thank You.
Slow smouldering pleasures. Beautifully put... also have to add that the editing is really really good, very cinematic
Absolutely wonderful, as always
The quality of your videography and editing are definitely improving! Can’t wait to see where the wind takes you and how much your channel grows this time next year. 💕
Thank you so much Marlena! I too am so excited to see where this whole UA-cam journey takes us. So far, it’s been amazing. Thank you so much for watching and for your support
Hope to one day meet you out on the big blue when my husband and I start our sailing journey.
I hope for that to happen one day as well!!
Beautifully narrated.
You know,...I could feel at peace sitting and listening to you read the dictionary.
Your articulation is magnificent, great video very professional
Thank you so much Paul!
A truly beautiful introspection. Thankyou.
How did you manage to describe my life, my thoughts and my feelings so well?
Excellent. Just excellent.
very nicely put
hello Maya,
all your videos are a masterpiece of lyrik about dreams, feelings and emotions, so wonderful,
Each could be the text of a song.
I am touched deeply by your word’s,
and you make me feeling sitting beside you, overwhelmed by the colours of the sundown.
Of course I will get a patreon and am looking foreward to your next video.
Thank you so much for this enormous quality of life.

Words to live by. Thank you.
You are wonderful & free spirit my dear.
Beautiful, Thank you!
love this Maya , the only way it could be perfect would be an intro and outro of you interacting with your fiddle its so good it is sadly missed fairwinds young lady
Standing ovation 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Very eloquent. Makes me glad there are young people like you. 👍🙂 EH! Just because we use that word at home sometimes .... never heard you use that word ... EH! 😁
What is it makes a man follow the sea?
Ah, you may ask me! Says Billy Magee.
Stick to it hungry and stick to it cold,
Stick to it after he's broken and old.
Freeze in the Forties an' sweat on the Line,
Shiver and burn in the rain an' the shine.
Stick it until he can't stick it no more -
Curse it and leave it for something ashore -
Chuck up his shore job an' follow the sea -
Search me if I know! - Says Billy Magee

Truly lovely Maya.
Thank you for this. It made me feel joy :)
I am so glad!! Your comment made me feel joy!!
Well done!
Love this episode Maya
You have a beautiful voice , literally and figuratively...
It suddenly came to me “Why we sail by Christian Williams” you too sound alike and your voice is just as compelling :)
