I bought Philosophy of Sailing from Audible and loved it. Bought Alone together in a hardback for the boat library. Many years ago, I bought your Ted Turner bio and really enjoyed it as I was a fan of his sailing accomplishments. You are a truly gifted writer. You sailing videos are motivating me to keep my sailboat skills and goals on track. Sailing has give me more joy and contentment than any other activity and you have contributed to that process. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and sailing life with us.

Seems like you are an aviator also. You mentioned Fuel Quantity issues(inaccurate readings) in aircraft. Never trust it! You use a wooden dip stick on your boat to get more accurate fuel quantity readings lol. Were you in the military. I was. Military aircraft Fuel quantity sensors are large capacitors. They read the capacitance of the fuel remaining(actually in contact with the JP 4 or 5 fuel within the fuel bladders. Yeah it doesn't blow up! I changed quite a few Fuel Quantity sensors in F-14 and 7 other types of US military Aircraft in the 1980s and 90s:) Maybe fuel quantity systems on U.S. military Aircraft war machines were the weakest systems(least robust) onboard us military aircraft. I was at Point mugu California NAS where we ramped up(pre deploy testing and perfecting of) the Tomahawk missile guidance systems(smart bombs they called them after they went fleet wide) and Whidbey Island NAS where i was later. Those places are etched in my brain from my military duty. Well I'm still vicariously living in your footsteps or wake i guess(watching youtube videos now). Been making cars and trucks in Detroit for 30(almost) years after my military career. Maybe I'll buy a sail boat and join you some day soon God willing! Lol.

65.69 gallons costing 331 dollars is closer to an extremely reasonable 5 dollars a gallon. I know the prices have rocketed recently in California due to covid or should I say an incompetent helmsman at the wheel , but nonetheless, come to Europe and your eyes would pop. 1 US gallon is about 17% than an Imperial gallon but about 3.8 times greater than a litre. 65.69 US gallons that's roughly 249 litres or 55 and a half imperial gallons. In any event, until recently I always perceived fuel prices in America as sublime by comparison to Europe. On the other hand you could just use a culling oar as one intrepid lad demonstrates on utube on a 31 ft yacht - just joking!
