New to this channel and have thoroughly enjoyed watching this 555 playlist... mainly because I have one. As for the weld on the front end, its a mistake... common though. These 4 bolts are designed with play for a reason. Given the age of this machine, it is probably moot... but still, it should be able to move at this joint. Not sloppy, but move nonetheless.

( I won’t ask Mrs Kleeman 😂🤣😂 ) the backhoe is gonna be a fine piece of equipment by the time you’ve finished ( excellent project ) 👍 I think you’re way cleverer and more competent than you realise, you thoroughly deserve all of your successes. Having spent time restoring old cars and trucks, I can tell from experience the POR15 is the best for rust. It actually chemically changes rust to primer. But do remember, POR15 has no UV protection, so it will fade quickly without some type of top coat. Also, be careful not to sand through it when you’re preparing to paint. I know it’s supposed to be yellow, but I’ve gotta say the black give the ol’ 555 a tough and menacing look. I like it!

If you're looking for a highly affordable upgrade for the bucket pins Capt. you can pick up some large hitch pins that fit the holes. They're not quite as hard as actual pins, but they are stronger and harder than the mild steel round stock that came in there. Nice to see progress on the ol girl and some much needed and deserved love. Keep up the great work, and look forward to the next one 😁👍

If you’re looking for a really great old iron primer that doesn’t break the bank… Van Sickle makes a ‘Rust Arresting’ implement primer that I use. I primered a pair of farm gates 15 years ago. Because I couldn’t decide what color to finish them in… the primer never got covered. They still haven’t rusted. Nor has any of the other things I’ve used it on since.
If you paint the triple nickel New Holland yellow… she’ll look just like Frank’s backhoe…. You’ll be digging arrow straight ditches and maybe have to open a third channel called DiggingIN!

I was surprised that the pins on the front bucket came out as easy as they did. One thing is for sure, I would make sure that all of the pins are the right strength of metal. Rust proofing and painting will definitely prolong the life of the backhoe. And strengthening the weak points of the frame will certainly prevent a catastrophic failure. I can only imagine the carnage of the front section broke off. One thing is for sure, it will be nice to see if operating with all of the counterweights so it's not doing a ballet dance all the time!

Prob should grind a deep V in the crack and weld her up good before it snaps off? (Yeah! More content!)
And YES, that POR-15 is expensive as Gold Ingots, but it's worth it, I use it on all kind of stuff and it'll never rust there again, but you HAVE TO put a top coat on it or it'll go Chalky and flat from the sun inside of 3-4 months - I always buy it at NAPA or Autozone and it's typically like $67/qt - but man is it good shit

If you know someone who is a lineman for the power company, ask him so save some wire for you. Typically they cut off a foot or more when installing a new line or making a repair. It goes to scrap. The aluminum wire is spiraled but can easily be pounded flat after separating the strand. The wire is the right diameter for making pins. I use them to mark rows in my garden with some surveyors tape and also for bird nesting boxes to hold the door closed. They have other uses as well. Gold if you can get your hands on some. Very similar to the pins you make.

Have to admit your Facebook teaser fooled me into thinking you had some donor iron to fix the floppy bucket. If you ever want to go in the line boring direction I would watch the videos Kieth Fenner made on UA-cam. He did a job a little before MBTS on DP and he appeared to make it a lot easier. Wishing you and your family the best.

Gonna look pretty sweet with the 555 in black. I kinda thought this would be a winter project, since this time of year is when you'll be using it the most. As always, enjoyed the video Captain!

Hello Mike. Your "I don't know what I'm doing" is better than 98.9% of others, "I've seen this done before" or "Watch this". If I knew what kind of blade you used for the template, I would send you a handle if they were still made. "Thanks for stopping by and spending part of your day with me."
    Have good days!
