Hey dude! My late father was a bulldozer operator before. Way back mid 1960's to 1st quarter of 1980's. I used to go with him during school vacation. There's a lot of good memories for me. it was good experience fun and exciting. There was a time I'm the one driving myself a bulldozer.

Hello. Warren. I really like the sound of the 7 F. Your right people give up on stuff way to easy. It is a throw away attitude, no good. Keep on keeping on. R G the first here enjoying all you vids! Thank you, sure helpls me get threw a lot of long nights and days. I am totally blind but use to help my grandpa in his heavy duty shop in WV. I got the job of parts cleaner, and steaming mud off the cats to make things easier to get to the bolts. It was a really dirty job but I loved it. I am 63 years old now. I sure miss my grandpa he was a great guy, and he was the best cat man I ever met, you remind me of him. Your way of essesing problems and the way you tackle a problem, is just what my grandpa would do.

My late uncle was a dozer mechanic, & he went to every auction he could. He once told me you paid a lot of extra for the Cat name, but it was worth every penny. Most folks said he was the best around. This video reaffirms that for me. Fired right up.

Another great video Warren. In the UK there are not many youngsters want to do this type of work, they want an easy life . The field mechanics are a special breed . I have been doing a similar job for 45 years, and also do it as a hobby . My advise would be to make as much money as you can as your body will give up over the years and you will find it harder to carry out tasks . Take care mate

I'm a retired Caterpillar design engineer. I cut my teeth on the old 200 series excavator. I designed the 235 final drive, pump drive and swing drive back when they was introduced in the early 70's. Before life at Cat I worked road construction, mostly interstate highways, in the 60's. Loved the old Cat D8's and D9's. We moved dirts with D9's and scrapers and of course fine grading with motor graders. Cat caught my attention because we always seemed to have Cat's working when the green stuff was broke down. Loved your video and will be watching for more.

If the "Duo-Cone" pinion seals between the transmission and final drives have failed, transmission oil would leak under pressure into the ham cases and out the vents. The leak would manifest from the final drive vent down the back of the ham case to the ground, and could easily go unnoticed because of the grime and dirt on the undercarriage. I ran 94N D7F's, 48A D7E's, and 46A D8's for Weyerhaeuser out of Klamath Falls in the '80's. I surveyed and built miles of logging roads with a 94N D7F just like yours, but with a tilting 12-foot Balderson U-dozer and hydraulic Esco boom with a 96-inch Esco grapple for skidding right-of-way trees. When you lit a fire in that old girl, the exhaust note made me cry. God, I miss those days and those machines!

Thanks for this. It took my back to when as a college kid in the early 1960s I worked with my father for Union Engineering in Ventura, California. There was a time when I worked as a swamper for a catskinner named Elgin Carter. It reminded me of the early morning when he'd check out a D8 before he started it. No electric starter. The starter was a gasoline engine that you had to hand crank to start. In the winter, you needed a spray can of ether to prime everything.

Nice job rescuing it! I love the sound of that 3306. A little over a year ago, I helped rescue an Allis Chalmers 655 track loader that was in a similar situation...the engine had been rebuilt 10 years before but they wrecked the torque converter seal putting the engine back in, so it leaked out ATF as quickly as they could pour it in. I helped a friend get it started, and we got it running and driving (barely) long enough to load it on his trailer.

Hey Warren, thank you for your effort in showing your work. It’s a hard enough job for most of us without dragging us along with you. Just a comment regarding the oil leak. Just to the right side of that suspected pinion leak, there was a oil supply or oil return pipe with a typical hose with hose clamps that really appeared to be leaking profusely. A very typical Cat product leak issue. Hoses shrink and go hard and clamps are no longer tight. Just a thought. Thanks for all your vids. You are a extremely knowledgeable Tech.

They've took it apart a few times & can't figure out why it's doing that. They've put new rear main seal in it every time, we checked the mains to check for slop, changed the oil pan gasket of course. They don't know what the problem is. I personally think it's the torque converter itself. But what do I know, I just worked there.

Before going any further check the crankcase oil level while the machine is running and see if it is over filled with all that use. If the scavenge pump has failed the torque divider will be overfilling and transmission pump pushing oil out all the seals through the TD. Also the transmission will become under filled. I just figured this out on my d6c. I wasted $500 on fluids and drained 9 gallons from torque divider housing when it should only have 1.5'ish. That's an easy fix too.

I love your detailed videos. I don't have the skills for this work but love to watch others do it. Love old CAT's too.

You are doing a great job with your channel ,I like the resortration of equipment which others have written off ,and your determination to see a job through to the end ,and your straight talking ,as in the problem child video.

Who else was all WOOHOO when that D7 turned over? Can't wait to see if its only that seal. If so,... I mean wow...left it there for bad seal...I wanna see this fix, Warren! I hope you can sell that other one for the owner. Maybe even get DEPOSIT if they want the undercarriage work done.

Hey Warren. First want to tell you that I think you are one hell of a mechanic. I love to watch your videos.
I think the reason why you were having a hard time getting it in gear is because Cat transmissions have some type of safety valve in them that has to get oil pressure before you can pull it back into gear.
I know the old 955L's were that way and I would guess all old Cat stuff is the same.
Again I appreciate you making these videos and keep up the good work.

Another fascinating find by Warren!!! Great job Bud! Always impressive listening to your stories of experience (and how lame some of the things you get called out for can be.) But, it all helps as Jackson Browne said, in the "struggle for the legal tender".
